Plantation Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel has made it his life’s mission to explore the terroirs of rum, from its birthplace in the Caribbean to the furthest reaches of the South Pacific. Aided by Rum Co. of Fiji’s Master Distiller, Liam Costello, Alexandre meticulously selected just 18 casks of a 2004 vintage column still rum filtered through coconut carbon.  Aged in the tropics for 17 years before journeying across two oceans, this formidable Viti rum’s journey ends in the southwest of France, with four-years of maturation in Ferrand Cognac casks.

Alexandre’s choice bursts with power, structure and just a hint of smoke. Intense coffee, vanilla and fudge notes intertwine on the nose, followed by fruity and spicy tones, brightened by citrus peel and deepened by tobacco. The extra-long finish lingers with cherry, cloves and cocoa.

An exceptionally tasty Guatemalan rum from the Plantation folks, this XO expression spent its first few tropical years ageing in bourbon casks, before in classic Plantation style it was moved to Ferrand casks to mature for a year in France. Before bottling, it spent a final six months in Amburana casks, a type of wood found in the forests of Latin America. Eventually, it was bottled at 50% ABV, choc full of tropical fruit.

As with all Plantation rums, this has the usual distinctive netting wrapped around the bottles – this is great from a branding/marketing point of view. I do like that Plantation have included some information about the rum’s ageing process, although there is no info about how the rum was actually created i.e. type of still used. There are some tasting notes, although stating that the nose is “complex, earthy, rum of pure cane juice proudly showing characteristics from ancient noble farms” is not particularly insightful nor useful. The additives are not directly referenced either.

This colourful bottling is Plantation’s homage to the Fiji Islands. Distilled from Fijian molasses, it’s initially aged for around three years in the tropical climate in bourbon casks, before it’s sent over to France for a secondary maturation in French oak for a year. A spicy, creamy and tropical affair, and a sure fire way to taste a sense of place! An excellent sipper, and it certainly stands up to being used in all sorts of cocktails. Plus, look at that iguana on the label! What a cheerful little fellow!

The Multi Island XO is a blend of rums from West Indies Rum Distillery in Barbados, which Plantation now owns, and Long Pond and Clarendon Distilleries in Jamaica, both of which they partially own. This allows them more creative control over the whole process than they have with their releases from other distilleries, from the recipe (or “marque”) to the aging. This particular blend is very full bodied, with a hint of that classic Jamaican fruit and funk element, some white pepper and tobacco, and a nice crisp sweetness imparted by the finish in barrels that previously held Coteaux du Layon, a lightly sweet French white wine.

  • ( 0 Customer Review )

The Royal Salute 32 Year Old Union of the Crowns is unfortunately a limited release from Chivas Brothers, because this blended Scotch makes one heck of an interesting dram. This unique edition, launched originally for the Travel Retail market, salutes (ahem) the moment King James VI fused three kingdoms to create the modern British Monarchy in 1603.

A truly special blend, whisky from distilleries long-since closed like Caperdonich and Lochside are combined with distinctive offerings chosen to balance a complex taste; such as the fruity character of Glen Keith, the creamy texture of Longmorn; the sweet notes of Tormore and the rich qualities of Braeval.

For all that effort to blend this Scotch, you better believe the Chivas Brothers didn’t skimp on presentation. This stylish and sophisticated porcelain flagon was crafted from purest clay, water and tempered fire. The real treat, however, comes from the secret firing process that ensures that each bottle stands utterly individual, because every flagon is glazed with a completely singular patina. Very much a chance to make the Royal Salute 32 Year Old Union of the Crowns truly all your own.

This is an incredible 38 year old blended whisky from Chivas, named for the Stone of Destiny – a block of red sandstone used in the coronations of the monarchs of Scotland and later the monarchs of the United Kingdom.

A very special 38 year old Royal Salute from Chivas, Stone of Destiny is named after the ancient stone used for British Royal Coronation ceremonies for centuries, symbolising the approval for the incoming monarch.

The Stone of Destiny, after much intrigue and dark shenanigans, is now back in Scotland.

A sure-fire hit from Ableforth’s, Rumbullion! is a cockle-warming spiced concoction, based on the kind of rich, full-bodied rums the seafaring fraternity would have enjoyed centuries ago.

At the core of this fabulous winter warmer lies a blend of the very finest high proof Caribbean rum, to which was added creamy Madagascan vanilla and a generous helping of zesty orange peel. A secret recipe was followed, finished with a handful of cassia and cloves and just a hint of cardamom.

The Saint-Vivant Armagnac has a rich tradition dating back to 1559, when Saint-Vivant de la Salle produced the first bottle. The famous bottle “twisted” reproduces the original bottles used by Saint Vivant. The house uses Saint Vivant wines selected exclusively from the region of Gascony. These wines are distilled in traditional copper stills, and the resulting alcohol is aged in oak casks. The cellar master of Saint Vivant then starts the complex process of mixing the various distillates aged in order to get the final blend that makes this brand one of the most respected Armagnac in the world.

A subtle blend of high-quality Armagnacs that have aged for at least five years in oak casks, SAINT-VIVANT NAPOLEON is distinguished by its copper colour and its delicate, refined aromas of plum, blackberry and dried fruits.

The ancestral home of House Tully, Riverrun, sits at the junction of the Red Fork of the Trident and the Tumblestone River. The ruling Lord of the Riverlands, House Tully embodies the power and ferocity of the rivers it sits between. Using the power found in their positioning, House Tully forged strong alliances and built a history of honour, family and duty. Built along the banks of the River Fiddich, Glendullan Distillery originally relied on the waters it lay beside, using a water wheel to power the entire distillery. Like the Tullys themselves, this single malt can benefit from a splash of water, opening up flavours of green apple, honey and sweet vanilla.

Springbank Local Barley 10yo 2021 700ml

This is one of a select number of releases produced using malted barley harvested from neighbouring farms in the Campbeltown area. They were first introduced in the late 1990s, and were eventually re-named as the Local Barley series in the 2000s.

This is the 2021 release of the mid-2010s revival of the Local Barley range. Originally intended to be a 5 part series, which would have made this the last, but this is instead now being marketed as an annual release.

Distilled in May 2011 and bottled in December 2021, the ‘local barley’ comes from the varietal, Belgravia, and was grown in Campbeltown at the Glencraigs Farm.

Limited to only 15000 bottles.

This Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been distilled from barley grown on the Kintyre Peninsula within a few miles of Springbank. The barley is then malted on our own malt floors using traditional production techniques before it is turned into spirit, matured into whisky and bottled on-site, making this a 100% Campbeltown Single Malt.”

The 2021-release of Springbank’s annual Local Barley 10 Year Old single malt has been made with Belgravia barley from Glencraigs Farm near Campbeltown. Aromas of digestive biscuits, summer flowers, rich malt, vanilla custard, custard cream biscuits and vibrant cherry fill the nose, complemented by notes of Victoria sponge, honey, sweet barley, sticky syrup and salted caramel throughout the palate.

This is the second batch of Springbank Vintage 1997. The first batch proved very popular indeed, and when this one was bottled in 2008, it was yet another stunning release from the distillery in Campbeltown. Something must have been happening in 1997… It was the year that Daft Punk released their first album, and the Chemical Brothers released brilliant their second album in 1997 too… Perhaps great electronic music is the the perfect soundtrack for distilling great whisky.

Trump Premium Vodka is created in Holland by the Wanders Distillers distillery, distilled from select European wheat five distillations four of them in activated carbon, and then rested for six months in stainless steel vats, this Premium vodka belongs to the billionaire and EX US president, Donald Trump.

In 2005, Drinks Americas signed with Donald Trump to promote a new brand of vodka which became known as Trump Vodka. The brand was launched with the slogan “Success Distilled”, with Trump predicting it would outsell Grey Goose vodka. He also said that when mixed with tonic, which he referred to as a “Trump & Tonic” (T&T), it would become the most drunk cocktail in the United States.

The Trump Vodka brand was discontinued in the United States in 2011 due to sales failing to meet the company threshold requirements. Several reasons were attributed for this. One was because Trump himself is a non-drinker and never drank Trump Vodka, as he blamed alcohol for the death of his brother Fred Trump, Jr. Drinks Americas also had problems producing it because the glass used in the bottles and the gold leaf labels were expensive and the company could not afford to produce them in large numbers. In 2015, during his campaign for president, Trump did not include Trump Vodka amongst assets submitted to the Federal Election Committee.

Similar to Batch No.128, this was matured in half-sized, first-fill bourbon barrel, but in contrast to previous release, Batch No.270 was made with unpeated spirit, giving all those yummy vanilla-y elements from the small casks centre stage. 6,000 bottles were produced.

This is the third release from Wolfburn’s Kylver Series – each one features a different from from the runic alphabet found on the Kylver stone (one of the earliest forms of alphabet discovered). Emblazoned upon this bottling is the rune meaning thurs, which meant “thorn” to some, while to others it meant “giant”. This limited edition expression shows off a bourbon-cask-lead flavour profile, with a whisper of Sherry sneaking in later on..

Every year, as part of the Masters Collection from this distillery, there is an experimental dram release and Woodford Reserve Master’s Collection Brandy Cask is their 2016 version. This is an exceptional bourbon finished in American brandy casks and thought to be the very first made. On the nose, honeyed sultanas, Amaretto and burnt sugar, while the palate sees notes of dried fruits with cinnamon and a hint of oily walnut. The finish has notes of mint leaves, toasted sesame and oranges.
