Description
Plantation Guatemala & Bélize Gran Añejo Rum 70cl, 42% is a rich and approachable blend of aged molasses-based rums produced in Guatemala and Belize. It showcases the smooth, fruit-forward character traditionally associated with Central American rum while adding depth through Maison Ferrand’s distinctive double-ageing process.
The Guatemalan and Belizean rums are initially matured in ex-bourbon barrels in their countries of origin. They are then transported to south-west France, where the blend undergoes a further period of maturation in used Ferrand Cognac casks. This continental finish introduces additional layers of dried fruit, vanilla, gentle spice and refined oak.
Published production information indicates that the Guatemalan component is matured for approximately three years, while the Belizean rums are aged for approximately four to six years. After blending, the rum receives around one additional year of maturation in France. Despite the ages of its components, the finished bottle carries no formal age statement.
The result is a rounded rum with notes of ripe plum, dried fruit, vanilla, caramel, coconut, liquorice, tobacco and polished oak. Bottled at 42%, it has enough richness for sipping neat while remaining versatile enough for premium rum cocktails.
Why Choose Plantation Guatemala & Bélize Gran Añejo Rum 70cl, 42%
This release stands out because it combines mature rums from two neighbouring Central American countries and finishes them in Ferrand Cognac casks in France.
The double-ageing process gives the rum a balance of tropical sweetness and continental oak influence. Rich fruit, vanilla and caramel are complemented by drier notes of tobacco, liquorice, spice and oak, creating greater complexity than a straightforward sweet sipping rum.
For drinkers, it offers a smooth and full-flavoured profile at an accessible 42% strength. For enthusiasts, the Guatemala and Belize blend provides an interesting comparison of two Latin-style rum traditions brought together through Maison Ferrand’s blending and maturation expertise.
Ideal For.
This bottle is ideal for rum drinkers who enjoy smooth, fruit-led Central American rum with vanilla, dried fruit, caramel and polished oak.
It is ideal for sipping neat, serving over a large ice cube or using in spirit-forward cocktails such as an Old Fashioned or Mai Tai. The producer specifically recommends Gran Añejo for both neat drinking and cocktail preparation.
It is also ideal for Plantation Rum collectors building a range of double-aged expressions, regional blends and earlier bottles carrying the original Plantation branding.

Collector’s Note
Plantation Guatemala & Bélize Gran Añejo is primarily a drinking rum rather than a numbered limited edition. Its collector appeal comes from its regional blend, double-ageing method and the presentation used before the Plantation brand transitioned to the Planteray name.
Earlier Plantation-labelled examples may become increasingly interesting to brand-focused collectors as newer production appears under the Planteray identity. Bottles retaining clean labels, intact closures and their original presentation boxes are generally the most attractive for display.
It is also a useful bottle for collectors assembling Plantation releases by country or region, as it represents a combination of rums from both Guatemala and Belize rather than a single-origin expression.
