Established in 1948, Douglas Laing is a proudly independent, family owned Scotch Whisky business in its third generation. Over 70 years of heritage have helped us to refine our processes, and deliver Whisky that is consistently exceptional in its offering. Abiding to the philosophy of presenting Whisky as the Distiller intended, we add nothing and take nothing away from our spirit, enabling Whisky lovers around the world to come as close as they possibly can to sampling a dram straight from the Cask.
Colour: Pale gold. This is an inference based on the whisky style and product imagery rather than a formally published colour note.
Nose: Fresh, salty, and clean at first, then moving into sweet malt dried over peat, with extra hints of sea spray, iodine, and wood smoke drawn from retailer tasting descriptions.
Palate: Ashes, sweet tar, beach bonfire smoke, and warming maritime peat, with touches of citrus, toasted barley, and vanilla appearing around the edges. The citrus, barley, and vanilla notes are a light expansion based on retailer descriptors.
Finish: Long and lingering, with salty liquorice, smoke, bonfire ash, and a distinct phenolic edge.
Having been in specialist and craft Scotch Whisky production for generations, Douglas Laing originally exported blends, but now carries the family name down the line by focusing on bottling exceptional single malts and grains as part of their Old Particular, Provenance and XOP ranges. They also enjoy huge success with their “Remarkable Regional Malts” range; a series of creatively named vatted malts, designed to epitomise the characteristics of Scotland’s whisky regions.
Douglas Laing’s XOP – Xtra Old Particular – is a premium selection of the very best rare single malts and grains from the family vault. Each XOP release is one of a kind and comes with a numbered certificate to honour the antique spirit inside.
From Douglas Laing’s fantastic Xtra Old Particular range comes a 30 year old Invergordon single grain, matured in a refill butt cask from August 1988 to July 2019. After three decades of peaceful slumber, this grain whisky was bottled at cask strength, with an outturn of 440 bottles.

Royal Lochnagar distillery is based on the Abergeldie Estate in Royal Deeside, Scotland, close to the mountain Lochnagar.
The first Lochnagar distillery was burnt down in suspicious circumstances in 1824 and a replacement again burnt down in 1841. In 1845 John Begg built the “new” Lochnagar. The distillery was awarded its Royal Warrant in 1848 when John Begg invited Prince Albert to visit the distillery from the nearby Balmoral Castle, the Queen’s residence in the Highlands. The next day the distillery was visited by Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and their children.
Today Royal Lochnagar is owned by Diageo, and the distillery produces a relatively small amount of whisky, most of which is used in Johnnie Walker black and blue label.
8 year old Tamdhu single malt here, independently bottled by the brilliant Douglas Laing! This one was distilled back in June 2006 and set aside to mature in a refill hogshead for a decade, and bottled at 46% ABV in November 2015 with an outturn of 477 bottles. Yet another tasty expression from the Provenance range.
A 25-year-old marriage of Highland single malts, this limited-edition Timorous Beastie blended malt from Douglas Laing is a sweet, fruity whisky with notes of vanilla, freshly-baked cakes, tangy marmalade and honeycomb.
