Welsh whiskies are sweet, fruity and quite thick. Sometimes exhibiting tropical fruits and herbal notes, oak and chocolate. At this moment in time, Penderyn is the only distillery in Wales. It was established in 2000 by the Welsh Whisky Company Ltd. Penderyn has produced some smooth, easy-drinking malt whiskies, all as a recently released sherry wood and a peated expression. The peated offering is distilled from unpeated barley and the presence of phenols is solely down to the wood the whisky was matured in, the cask having previously held maturing Islay whisky.

Penderyn Legend is a Welsh single malt whisky firstly matured in bourbon barrels and finished in ex-Madeira casks before it’s bottled, imparting an intriguing touch of vibrant sweetness. It has been bottled at 41% ABV, slightly lower than the Welsh distillers’ other Madeira-cask-finished single malt.

Around 5,000 bottles will be released annually. A peated Welsh whisky, the peat comes solely from the cask the whisky matured in.

Penderyn Sherrywood is matured in ex-bourbon barrels and ex-Oloroso Sherry casks – a change from their classic expression, which is finished in Madeira casks.
