To legally be called a single malt Scotch, the whisky must be distilled at a single distillery in Scotland, in a copper pot still from nothing other than malted barley, yeast and water. It must then be aged in an oak cask for at least three years and a day, and be bottled at no less than 40% abv.

First fill Californian red wine and bourbon casks were used for maturation, whilst ‘Samsara’ appropriately enough means ‘rebirth’.

From Glenglassaugh’s third batch of Rare Cask Release expressions comes a 47 year old single malt finished in a single Pedro Ximenéz Sherry puncheon. Cask 2230 was filled all the way back in December 1968 and cracked open in November 2016, with 404 bottles produced. Batch 3 of the Glenglassaugh Rare Cask Release features whiskies all aged for at least 30 years. Blimey.

An Indian single malt whisky from the Paul John distillery, located in tropical Goa. Paul John distillery uses six row barley that is sourced from foothills of the Himalayas. The high fibre and protein content in six row barley, offers a distinct tannic character to the spirit. The tropical climate for maturation means a high angel’s share, 8-10%, as opposed to Scotland’s 2-3%. After just six years of maturation, around 40% of the cask contents is lost to evaporation. Making whisky (or whiskey) from scratch in Cyprus using local grains has always been our goal since we established Aristides Distilling. Now, it is also a reality! This unfiltered Single Malt Whisky is unique and presents a balance of toasted oak and hints of vanilla, caramel, toffee, and butterscotch flavors blended with hidden spice undertones that reveal themselves towards the end. For this limited release, Talisker joined forces with ‘Parley for the Seas’ – an organisation dedicated to rewilding the ocean forests. Presented in a bottle made from 100% recycled glass from biofuel, this expression serves as an ode to wilderness and the sea. Finished in ex-Cognac French oak casks, the nose offers tight-packed aromas of smoke, malt bread, dried fruits and brine. The palate displays additional notes of sweet fruits and pepper that accompany the famous Talisker maritime complexity.

Definitive single malt whisky maker, The Dalmore, is releasing a refined new single malt, The Dalmore 45, to add to its exceptional collection.
The Dalmore 45 has been hand crafted by Master Distiller Richard Paterson who has used some of the distillery’s rarest aged liquids to create what Richard himself has described as ‘flawless perfection’.
Initially matured in American white oak ex-bourbon casks, the liquid has then been transferred into two different Vintage Graham’s Port Colheita pipes dating from 1961 and 1963 to create layers of flavour, which are indulgent, smooth and complex.
For its final flourish the whisky was then married together in first fill American white oak ex-bourbon casks providing The Dalmore 45 with a truly unrivalled finish. The Dalmore’s use of multiple casks is a fitting example of the distillery’s commitment to exquisite cask curation, which focuses on sourcing and utilising only the best casks from the world’s finest bodegas and wineries.
Purposefully retained at 40% ABV, The Dalmore 45 features exquisite flavours of red berries, soft liquorice, crushed hazelnuts, bitter chocolate and Manuka honey. This is followed by the sweet flavours of sticky toffee pudding, Bramley apples and juicy dates to finish.
Richard Paterson commented: “By personally selecting the very finest American white oak ex-bourbon casks and Port Colheita Pipes from 1961 and 1963, I have been able to create a truly unique expression which is indulgent and smooth with a vibrant and lively flavour profile. It takes time, dedication and passion to create an expression like The Dalmore 45 and age has gracefully matured this distinguished spirit to make it one of The Dalmore’s greatest aged spirits. This is a very special whisky, which I would describe as flawless perfection.”

Rich complex flavours from the slowest stills in Scotland, matured in the finest casks and Unhurried since 1833, we control the entire six year journey our oloroso sherry casks take from oak forest to highland distillery.
Brown sugar, dark chocolate and a hint of vanilla with an endlessly warm finish bursting with rich sherry notes. Matured in our slowly crafted sherry oak casks for at least a quarter century.

Meikle Tòir The Sherry One is a peated whisky made at GlenAllachie Distillery using mainland peat from St. Fergus. The whisky was peated to 35ppm and benefited from a lengthy fermentation period of 160 hours to create a fruity, complex spirit that could stand up to ageing in sherry casks, which is exactly what it did. Pedro Ximénez and oloroso sherry puncheons, to be exact, following an initial maturation in American oak bourbon barrels. One for fans of smoke and sherry.

From the first series of whiskies by Meikle Tòir, a peated whisky brand made at GlenAllachie Distillery with the assistance of expert whisky maker Billy Walker, whose influence can certainly be seen here with this innovative cask profile. The single malt Scotch whisky, peated to 35ppm (using mainland St. Fergus peat, a sweeter variety than its coastal counterparts) and fermented for a lengthy 160 hours fermentation, was aged in American oak bourbon barrels followed by Chinquapin virgin oak casks, a bold barrel that imparts big, sweet, and rich flavours.

The Meikle Tòir range (meaning ‘big pursuit’ and pronounced mee-kuhl tor) comprises peated whisky made at GlenAllachie Distillery with guidance from legendary master distiller Billy Walker. The Original is a single malt made with mainland peat from St. Fergus, a sweeter, grassier variety than found on the coast. The barley was peated to 35ppm and then the whisky was aged in a combination of first-fill bourbon barrels, American virgin oak casks, and rye barrels. It was bottled at 50% ABV without chill-filtration or additional colouring.
