Description

Emperor’s Way 4 Year Old That Boutique-y Whisky Company 50cl, 54.4% is a rare German single malt bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company as Batch 1 for its World of Smoke collection. It comes from Hercynian Distilling Co., the makers of Elsburn, and was bottled at 54.4% ABV after 4 years of maturation.

What makes this release especially attractive is how unusual the maturation and peating are. The official bottler states that Emperor’s Way is the name used for Hammerschmiede’s smoky whiskies, that local German peat was used during malting, and that this batch matured in a first-fill Japanese Mizunara cask, one of only two such casks in the distillery’s possession. That combination gives the whisky a very distinctive profile and much stronger individuality than a standard young peated malt.

Why Choose Emperor’s Way 4 Year Old That Boutique-y Whisky Company 50cl, 54.4%

Emperor’s Way 4 Year Old That Boutique-y Whisky Company 50cl, 54.4% stands out because it brings together several things serious whisky buyers notice straight away: German single malt, local peat, first-fill Mizunara oak, small-batch Boutique-y presentation, and a confirmed outturn of just 477 bottles. Even at only 4 years old, it is clearly positioned as a highly individual release rather than an entry-level youthful bottling.

Ideal For.

This bottle is ideal for collectors of That Boutique-y Whisky Company releases who look for smaller outturns, unusual cask types and distinctive world whisky bottlings.

It is ideal for drinkers who enjoy smoky whisky with fragrant wood spice, honeyed sweetness and a more exotic oak influence than a typical bourbon-cask peated malt. This is supported by the official cask information and the published tasting profile for the release.

It is also ideal for buyers who want to explore modern German whisky in a format that feels genuinely rare and conversation-worthy. This is an inference based on the confirmed Mizunara maturation, German peat use and limited bottle count.

Collector’s Note

This bottle has strong collector appeal because it sits in a niche that attracts real interest: modern German whisky, Boutique-y small-batch bottlings, smoky styles, and unusual oak. The Mizunara element matters especially here, because the official bottler states the distillery had only two such casks, making this release feel much more specific than a routine batch bottling.

It is also attractive because the outturn is clearly defined. At 477 bottles, it is limited enough to feel properly scarce, while the combination of German peat and Mizunara oak gives it a profile and story that stand out immediately on a whisky shelf.
