Speyside single malts are single malt Scotch whiskies, distilled in Strathspey, the area around the River Spey in Moray and Badenoch and Strathspey, in northeastern Scotland.
The two best-selling single malt whiskies in the world, The Glenlivet and Glenfiddich, come from Speyside. Strathspey has the greatest number of distilleries of any of the whisky producing areas of Scotland. Dufftown alone has six working distilleries with an annual capacity of 40.4m litres of spirit.
Scotland’s Malt Whisky Trail is a tourism initiative featuring eight Speyside distilleries and the Speyside Cooperage. Speyside also hosts an annual whisky festival known as “Spirit of Speyside”.
Speyside whiskies can generally be classified as light and grassy (e.g. Glenlivet) or rich and sweet (e.g. Macallan).

The folks at GlenAllachie (including the legendary Billy Walker) have gone and made a blended Scotch whisky! White Heather 21 Year Old is made with whiskies from Speyside, the Highlands and Islay, aged in first-fill American barrels, sherry butts, and second-fill barrels and hogsheads. The blend also enjoyed three years of additional maturation in Pedro Ximénez puncheons, Oloroso puncheons, and Appalachian virgin oak casks. The name comes from a blended whisky brand that was discontinued back in the 1980s, which was acquired by The GlenAllachie Distillers Company in 2017.

This is a 15 year old blended Scotch whisky from the White Heather range, created by master blender Billy Walker. For this expression, malt whiskies from Speyside, Islay, and the Highlands have been used, alongside grain whisky. In summary it can be stated that the Sir Edwards is a Scotch Whisky classic blend which reflects the best of Scotland. No excessive smoke, no tropical fruit or sea notes. The ruling Lord of the Riverlands, House Tully embodies the power and ferocity of the rivers it sits between. Using the power found in their positioning, House Tully forged strong alliances and built a history of honour, family and duty. Built along the banks of the River Fiddich, Glendullan Distillery originally relied on the waters it lay beside, using a water wheel to power the entire distillery. Behold, the very final bottling in the Game of Thrones Single Malts Collection! We present to you Six Kingdoms, a beasty 15 Year Old Mortlach. Those of you who are all up to date with Game of Thrones lore (and if you aren’t, beware of spoilers ahead!) will remember that there were in fact, seven kingdoms in Westeros, but in the season finale the North became independent, taking the number down to six. The Speysider was matured in first-fill sherry casks, with a finish in American oak bourbon casks. The limited edition single malt is bottled at 46% ABV, presented in a metallic gold presentation tube, decorated with a pen and ink drawing of the mysterious three-eyed raven (aka Bran the Broken). Originally released as a travel retail exclusive, this Mortlach 14 Year Old has been nicknamed Alexander’s Way in honour of the distillery’s former owner, Alexander Cowie. Thanks to Alexander Cowie, Mortlach distils its spirit 2.81 times, a rather unique process known as ‘The Way’. So, there you have it, Alexander’s Way. This expression has been matured for 14 years in refill bourbon and sherry casks, with oodles of creamy notes and jam packed full of spice.

This is a 12 year old single malt produced at the Mortlach distillery in Speyside, unveiled in 2018 as part of a trio (including a 16 Year Old and a 20 Year Old). This particular expression features the subtitle The Wee Witchie, which comes from the name of the tiny still that distils a portion of the whisky. It’s drawn from bourbon and sherry casks, and packs a hearty punch of meaty Mortlach-y malt at its core, supported by dried fruit and toffee notes.

Meikle Tòir The Sherry One is a peated whisky made at GlenAllachie Distillery using mainland peat from St. Fergus. The whisky was peated to 35ppm and benefited from a lengthy fermentation period of 160 hours to create a fruity, complex spirit that could stand up to ageing in sherry casks, which is exactly what it did. The Meikle Tòir range (meaning ‘big pursuit’ and pronounced mee-kuhl tor) comprises peated whisky made at GlenAllachie Distillery with guidance from legendary master distiller Billy Walker. The barley was peated to 35ppm and then the whisky was aged in a combination of first-fill bourbon barrels, American virgin oak casks, and rye barrels. The Macallan Decades consists of four whiskies that were created to recreate the style of single malt produced as the distillery in the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. Thankfully their reference material for these was more reliable than the 19th century examples used to create their infamous Replica series.
One of four bottles released by the Macallan which depicts the style of The Macallan from the 1920’s to 1950’s. Each release has an illustration with of-the-era artwork featuring classic modes of transport from each decade.
To re-create the style of The Macallan in the 1920’s, their master distiller has sampled bottles of The Macallan from that decade and matched their aroma and flavour with more recent distillations taken from the casks maturing in their warehouses.
During the 1920’s, most of The Macallan produce was sold to whisky blenders as a “top dressing” single malt for their blended whiskies. The few remaining casks continued to mature their contents for longer, resulting in a whisky that was slightly drier and less toffee sweet than modern day Macallan.

In homage to its chocolate influence, The Macallan Harmony Collection Rich Cacao is presented in a 100% recyclable gift box, made using discarded husks from cacao pods.

The collaboration, which is The Macallan’s third with the iconic artist and is part of a relationship which has spanned more than three decades, celebrates The Macallan’s rich legacy and Sir Peter Blake’s remarkable contribution to the art world.
At the heart of the esteemed collection are 13 one-of-a-kind bottles of exceptional 1967 whisky. Classic but with a distinctly colourful character, this peerless single malt Scotch has been matured for more than 50 years and was carefully selected to represent the year that Sir Peter Blake’s signature collages transcended from art into popular culture.
Each individual bottle features its own original Sir Peter Blake collage art on the label, detailing unique stories relating to The Macallan’s history, community, and the beautiful natural landscape of The Macallan Estate.
Pioneering pop artist Sir Peter Blake is renowned for his highly distinctive collages featuring images from popular culture. His diverse style ranges from colourful lettering to likeness drawing, but he remains best known for his signature crowd work. Over many decades, his unique and timeless style has transcended fashion, music, and even art movements.
The long-held relationship between The Macallan and Sir Peter Blake is based on a mutual respect for craftsmanship as well as a strong desire to deliver truly creative and visionary work. In 1986 he collaborated with The Macallan to create a bespoke label for The Macallan 1926 taking inspiration from the events of the era. In 2012 The Macallan and Sir Peter Blake collaborated again to create a unique, limited edition art piece in celebration of his 80th birthday and decades of collaborating with The Macallan.
As part of The Macallan’s strong support for the arts, one of the extremely scarce 13 Anecdotes of Ages bottles is being auctioned to raise funds to benefit the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Support from The Macallan will advance efforts underway at the Guggenheim to increase free access and develop engagement with a variety of audiences, in alignment with the museum’s diversity, equity, access, and inclusion initiatives. The sale is being conducted by Sotheby’s in March 2021.

Each of the 13 original bottles are hand-blown with an oak stopper, and feature a label signed by Sir Peter Blake. Presented in a handcrafted European oak case incorporating thumbnail photography revealing Sir Peter Blake’s inspirational journey with The Macallan, the expressions are also accompanied by a leather-bound book showcasing all 13 label artworks and corresponding stories, as well as a certificate of authenticity.
While the 13th original bottle will be retained in The Macallan archive, a highly limited edition whisky featuring a duplicate label and the same rare 1967 whisky, will be released as The Anecdotes of Ages Collection: Down to Work Limited Edition. A beautiful, extremely limited edition Macallan released for travel retail, Oscuro is made with whisky from 1987 and 1997 and it’s sherried and incredibly rich.
This is the 2015 redesign of the packaging, now presented in the premium decanter style bottle first used for the Macallan Reflexion.
Dark, lusciously rich and satisfying. The Macallan Oscuro is drawn exclusively from oak casks seasoned with Oloroso Sherry. An exceptionally high proportion of these are first fill, which endow the whisky with a rich, deep Burnished copper colour and intense flavour. When the casks are at the peak of maturation, the whisky is gently reduced to 46.5% alcohol by volume with natural spring water drawn from boreholes deep under The Macallan Estate. It is then matured in slumbering casks for at least six months, allowing the flavours to blend. It undergoes no further strength reduction and is filtered non-chill at ambient room temperature before being bottled.

No. 6 brings together the art of whisky making with Lalique exquisite craftsmanship to create a stunning whisky encased in the finest crystal decanter. This rich, complex single malt takes its unique natural colour and character from first fill sherry seasoned oak casks from Spain, handcrafted by the master craftsmen of Jerez de la Frontera, the home of sherry. The casks are taken from a single cooperage in order to ensure the infinite quality and character at the heart of this rich single malt. The cooperage exclusively creates Spanish oak casks which, once seasoned with sherry, create the unique flavour of this exquisite whisky. Rich in spice and dried fruit with a layer of heady orange groves, this is an enticing, dark, whisky that delivers classic Macallan character.

The Macallan Quest range (originally released for the Travel Retail market) features four expressions showing off the many, many miles travelled to sources the casks to mature the Speyside whisky. The Lumina expression is made with whisky aged in sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks, as well as hogsheads. While sherry does get a good look-in with this one, it’s a much more vanilla and toffee-focussed dram.

The first release in this fine collection is dedicated to The Macallan’s extraordinary Distillery. The Home Collection celebrates our origins, which have been deeply rooted in community since 1824.

The Home Collection – The Distillery was also sold on The Macallan Online Boutique with a set of three watercolour prints by artist and The Macallan Employee Colin Rizza, exclusive to online boutique purchases.
The Macallan Home Collection celebrates the traditions and community surrounding the famous distillery. It was originally sold at the Macallan Estate, and at selected airports. The box features watercolour art by Colin Rizza, a MacAllan employee.

Released in 2019, The Macallan Estate is an intriguing expression that contains spirit distilled from barley grown on Macallan’s very own Easter Elchies estate. Hence the name. Growing on the banks of the River Spey, this barley is only distilled over the course of one week each year. It’s a pleasingly well-sherried dram, and comes handsomely presented in box which has an inlay of slate, representing the Scottish landscape that the distillery calls home.

The sixth and final release in the The Macallan Edition series, Edition No. 6 takes its inspiration from the natural wonders of the legendary River Spey and The Macallan Estate, where each and every cask of The Macallan is matured before being hand-selected for use by our expert whisky makers.
All of the five distinct casks types used to create Edition No. 6 have been hand-picked by The Macallan Whisky Maker Steven Bremner. He drew inspiration from unique stories related to the river and surrounding landscape. The American and European oak casks have been selected to create a flavour profile that will deliver a multifaceted experience; from the appealing rich brass natural colour, to the layers of aroma, followed by the deep and rewarding flavour.
The legendary River Spey flows through the Estate and is globally renowned as a home to the mighty Atlantic salmon. The Macallan Ghillie is a custodian of the River Spey and advocate for sustaining the wildlife in and around it. On our one-and-three-quarter mile stretch of river, a fortunate few can test their skills in the hope of catching – and releasing – wild Atlantic salmon using Hardy’s incomparable tackle.
Wild Atlantic salmon are at risk of becoming an endangered species. Therefore The Macallan are working with the Atlantic Salmon Trust to help raise awareness of this, and to support vital conservation work on the River Spey and beyond.
