The spirit has enjoyed a 12 year maturation, developing a good level of complexity and depth. Old Pulteney 2006 offers up notes of vanilla, subtle spice, sea spray, oak, hay, pears, apples, malt, a little chopped herb, slight earth, flowers, mint, cream and some exotic fruit notes (pineapple, mango).
The dram is bottled at 46% ABV and without chill filtration or artificial colouration, ensuring a richness of flavour and mouthfeel.

An Indian single malt whisky from the Paul John distillery, located in tropical Goa. Paul John distillery uses six row barley that is sourced from foothills of the Himalayas. The high fibre and protein content in six row barley, offers a distinct tannic character to the spirit. The tropical climate for maturation means a high angel’s share, 8-10%, as opposed to Scotland’s 2-3%. After just six years of maturation, around 40% of the cask contents is lost to evaporation. That loss would take around 24 years in Scotland! A cracking addition to That Boutique-y Whisky Company’s Cinema Series, with a label that imagines James Bond, Bollywood style.

Peat’s Beast is a single malt from a mystery Islay distillery, adding further intrigue to this delicious and smoky whisky. The complexity in this dram has been kicked up a notch, not just by its strength, but by its finishing period in Pedro Ximinez Sherry casks. Pedro Ximinez is the sweetest style of sherry, and here it marries perfectly with the robust smoky flavours of this whisky. The nose brings huge smoky aromas, with a dense grassy and earthy peat, accompanied by a sherried fruit, and some thick malty notes. The palate is hot and thick, with a buttery caramel flavour accompanied by peat smoke and succulent stone fruit: plums and cherries. Peat and sherry is a great combo, though sometimes it can be a bit like a shouting match between a foghorn and a washing machine full of pots and pans. Thankfully, this one shows off a welcome harmony between the two. It’s a marvellous variation of Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire, featuring the same smoky 10 year old Islay single malt, though instead of just 25% of it being finished in sherry casks, the entirety of the whisky was finished in them. The powerfully peaty notes at its core are mellowed by just enough sherry sweetness, making for a superbly well-balanced flavour profile.

This is one of a select number of releases produced using malted barley harvested from neighbouring farms in the Campbeltown area. They were first introduced in the late 1990s, and were eventually re-named as the Local Barley series in the 2000s.
This is the 2021 release of the mid-2010s revival of the Local Barley range. Originally intended to be a 5 part series, which would have made this the last, but this is instead now being marketed as an annual release.
Distilled in May 2011 and bottled in December 2021, the ‘local barley’ comes from the varietal, Belgravia, and was grown in Campbeltown at the Glencraigs Farm.
Limited to only 15000 bottles.
This Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been distilled from barley grown on the Kintyre Peninsula within a few miles of Springbank. The barley is then malted on our own malt floors using traditional production techniques before it is turned into spirit, matured into whisky and bottled on-site, making this a 100% Campbeltown Single Malt.”
The 2021-release of Springbank’s annual Local Barley 10 Year Old single malt has been made with Belgravia barley from Glencraigs Farm near Campbeltown. Aromas of digestive biscuits, summer flowers, rich malt, vanilla custard, custard cream biscuits and vibrant cherry fill the nose, complemented by notes of Victoria sponge, honey, sweet barley, sticky syrup and salted caramel throughout the palate.

Over the past 20 or so years, the distillery changed hands from Invergordon Distillers to Whyte & MacKay, closed a few years later and reopened in 2007. Much of its single malt output is used in blends, but a few casks of single malt would sneak out as indie bottlings to allow us a rare taste of Tamnavulin – but now they’ve got their very own expression! They initially mature it in American oak barrels before treating them to a finishing period in Sherry casks.
