Famous Grouse 12 Year Old Malt (1L, 40cl)

In stock
  • ( 0 Customer Review )

Just like in the 15 Years that I reviewed earlier I find a peculiar Aroma in the 12 Years that I can’t quite place. It’s something that reminds me of Cooked Vegetables with a little added Sulphur but that doesn’t make a lot of sense, does it. Anyway, it’s clear that there are some Refill Macallan Ex-Sherry casks in the mix. The rest is mostly Glenrothes I think while it’s very hard or even almost impossible to detect Highland Park. Is there the faintest puff of Smoke in the background? It could be but I’m not gonna put a lot of money on that. On the Nose, this Famous Grouse has Sweet notes but there’s a slightly Sour touch to it as well. I find Toasted Barley, Toast with a mix of Butter and Margarine, light Honey, Toffee, Caramel, Hay, Dried Apricot, Apples, Plums, Nuts, light Vanilla, Orange, Nougat and hints of Espresso and Milk Chocolate. The Alcohol is not fully integrated. At this price level, it’s not at all bad but objectively speaking there’s not too much of interest going on.

Johnnie Walker Black Label Anniversary Edition 12 Year Old (70cl, 40%)

  • ( 0 Customer Review )

This aged version of the classic Red Label enjoys a similar cult following. Its unique complexity is achieved by expertly blending an extremely diverse, but complementary range of malt whiskies, each of which has been matured for a minimum of 12 years and some for much longer. In total, up to 40 malts and grain whiskies make up the Black Label blend. Island and Islay malts deliver spice, richness and lingering peat. Speyside malts make an important contribution to the depth of taste, bringing smoky malt, fruitiness, apple freshness and a rich sherry character to the blend. At the heart of Black Label lies 12 year old Cardhu, an outstanding malt from Speyside, which imparts silkiness, a characteristic which has made it famous as a single malt.

To date, Black Label has won more international awards for excellence than any other deluxe whisky. In the 1880s, Old Highland won medals in Sydney and Paris. Over 100 years later, in 1994, Black Label picked up gold medals at the 1994 Monde Selection Awards and the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC), where it also won a trophy for Best Blended Whisky. In 1996, it won gold again at IWSC for the best deluxe Scotch Whisky. 40% Alc./Vol.

The final addition to the Johnnie Walker Explorers’ Club Series – “The Royal Route” was launched in 2013 as a Travel Retail exclusive.

Developed as a ‘luxury’ whisky, Walker’s Master Blender, Jim Beveridge comments, “We sought out only the very finest, beautifully balanced blends that have deep evocative flavours and a character to match. On the nose, there is a vast array of rich fruity flavours including apple, pear, fig and peach. Reflective of the beauty, rarity and exotic nature of the luxury goods that were exchanged on the royal trade route, it has an intense and complex flavour with notes of dried fruit and toffee, handsomely balanced with a subtle woody sweetness and a lingering wispy aromatic smoke. THE ROYAL ROUTE delivers far more depth of character, with richer, multiple layers on the palate.”This edition is inspired by the majestic history and the sights of the royal trading route, famed for bringing the luxuries of the world to the hands of Kings. The travelers’ tales of the legendary journeys that took place on this road, the precious silks, Persian ornaments, diamonds and pearls that were traded along it, inspired Jim Beveridge to create what is the most opulent variant in the series.

The Explorers’ Club Collection which was released over 2012 and 2013 to honour the Johnnie Walker Whisky Traders has always been scheduled for Duty Free stores only. We’ve managed to secure tiny quantities from a secret source in order to satisfy CYPRIOT followers of the brand who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity to obtain these limited editions. So far the Trade Routes series has included The Spice Road, The Gold Route and The Royal Route. However, there’s a missing link that’s arguably the most collectable of all.

Jan van den Ende , writing for ‘Best Shot Whisky Reviews’ explains, “It is likely that The Adventurer was the first of a new series within The Explorer’s Club Collection. However a law suite was launched by the existing real life Explorer’s Club that included such legendary names as Buzz Aldrin and Sir Ernest Shackleton. The Club funds scientific Research and Education and did not want their name used for commercial purposes without their permission. A judge ruled in favour of the Club in August 2014 which forced Diageo to rethink their strategy with regards to the Explorer’s Club Collection. As a result, the Adventurer has become almost a rarity and a collector’s item despite its humble ambitions.”

For the first time since Gentleman Jack made its debut in 1988, Jack Daniel’s released a new brand of whiskey in the spring of 2011. Widely believed to have been created to appeal to the female market, this new brand blends Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey with a honey liqueur, thus creating Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey. This 70 proof whiskey keeps the traditional Jack Daniel’s flavor but has a smoother and sweeter taste than the other brands.

Described as Old No. 7 whiskey with the heat and spice of a red hot cinnamon liqueur, Tennessee Fire was the second flavored whiskey Jack Daniel’s released in a 3 year period, with Tennessee Honey in 2011 being the first.

Offered at 70 proof and in a variety of sizes, this whiskey first became available in April of 2014. This was considered a test launch with bottles only being sold in Tennessee, Oregon, and Pennsylvania. In October of 2014, five more States began receiving distribution of Tennessee Fire and by March of 2015 it was available in all 50 States.

A premium version of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee whiskey, Gentleman Jack exhibits impressive complexity and flavour. The main difference is that it enjoys a ‘double mellowing’ as it’s filtered through charcoal both before being filled into the barrel (the Lincoln County Process) and before it’s bottled. Certainly good enough to enjoy on its own, in his book Whisky: The Manual Dave Broom also suggests that Gentleman Jack actually works better than the regular Jack Daniel’s Old No.7 in a Jack and Coke too.

Frank Sinatra was a long time fan of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey and was often seen sipping a glass of it on stage while singing ‘Fly Me To The Moon’ or ‘My Way’. He even kept a stash of the classic whiskey on his private plane to enjoy while on the way to his next show, which would certainly beat a plastic cup of warm wine any day.

Jack Daniel’s Sinatra Select has been created in honour of this friendship with Old Blue Eyes. The bold, smooth qualities of the Sinatra Select come from the specially made Sinatra barrels in which part of the whiskey was aged. Deep grooves were cut into the staves of the casks, increasing the amount of exposure the whiskey had to the wood. It is then married with Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 and bottled at 45% abv, which is how Sinatra would have enjoyed it back in the day.

So put on a Sinatra LP, sip some Jack Daniel’s Sinatra Select and raise a glass to the man with one of the best voices the world has ever known.

Overall: Frank could easily have been looking into the future at the Sinatra Select when he sung ‘The Best Is Yet To Come’, but it’s here now for you to enjoy!

Jack Daniels Monogram with smooth silver top (oldest one) release 1998 proof 94 75cl

  • ( 0 Customer Review )

It is said that Jack Daniel served whiskey to his closest friends from his own personal fine glass monogrammed decanters. These decanters were reserved for special occasions and it was with this in mind that the Jack Daniel Distillery released the 750ml Monogram bottle in 2009. Filled with 94 proof whiskey, this bottle was sold with no hang tag, but came in an attractive silver and black box.

When it was introduced in 2009, the Monogram bottle was a limited release for the state of Tennessee only. However, even though 2009 was the first year this bottle was available in the United States, it was actually released internationally in 1998 and then again in 2004. While these are not considered different generations of this bottle to Jack Daniel’s collectors, they are definitely considered different versions.

The first release of the Monogram, bottled in 1998. This was initially only an export bottling, but was eventually released domestically in the US in 2009. Each version is being identifiable by its cap type.

Jack Daniel’s is the best-selling American whiskey in the world. Despite that fact it can legally be categorised as a straight bourbon, it has always shunned this title, preferring to market itself as a Tennessee Whiskey. These are similar to straight bourbons but have the additional requirement of having been filtered through maple wood charcoal, a practice known as the Lincoln County Process. History has not always given the distillery an easy ride though. Tennessee was an early adopter of Prohibition in 1910, and one of the last to repeal it in 1938 (five years later than the repeal at Federal level). Even today the distillery is still located in a “dry” county, meaning none of its products are sold in its hometown or those around it. The distillery was then only operational for four years before being forced to close again during the second world war. Ten years later it was purchased by the Brown-Forman corporation and its fortunes turned for good. Its classic black-labelled Old No.7 brand (named after the distillery’s original DSP number) is now a globally recognised product.

The presentation is based on the glass decanters that Jack Daniel himself is rumoured to serve whisky to his friends with.

The 7th and final bottle in the Gold Medal Series celebrates the most recent gold medal Jack Daniel’s has received, and perhaps the most prestigious. Despite the strict judging criteria, Jack Daniel’s came away with the institution’s top medal, the highly sought after Grand Gold Medal with Palm Leaves. This commemorative bottle celebrating that achievement was released in 2006.

Beginning in 1996 and continuing for the next 10 years, the Jack Daniel Distillery released its Gold Medal Series of commemorative bottles. Comprised of seven unique designs, each bottle in this series celebrates a different gold medal won by the Distillery. In the U.S., the series featured 750ml bottles filled with 90 proof whiskey. International markets offer these bottles only in a 1 liter size, with the exception of the first bottle in the series which was available only in the 750ml size.

This is the seventh in a series of releases from Jack Daniel’s to commemorate the gold medals awarded to the distillery. This bottling is for the medal won in 1981 at the Institut Pour Les Selections De La Qualite in Amsterdam.

At these higher points in the barrelhouses, just as in a second or third floor in a house, the temperature is likely to fluctuate more dramatically than at lower points. So, for example, during hot times (summer, the day) these higher points in the barrelhouses would likely be warmer than lower points, but during cold times (winter, night) these higher points in the barrelhouses would likely be colder than lower points. This means that barrels which sit at the highest points of the barrelhouses tend to be exposed to more extreme temperature changes.

Only one out of every 100 barrels are set aside to mature whiskey that becomes Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel.

In December of 2012, Jack Daniel’s released an entirely new and exciting whiskey different from anything they had done before. Known as Unaged Tennessee Rye, this was the first time in over 100 years the Jack Daniel Distillery had used a new grain recipe. Made available to the public with much anticipation, this was a very limited release so that the remainder of the rye whiskey barrels could continue to mature in the warehouses.

Technically not part of a series, this is still the 1st of 3 Rye Whiskey’s that will be released by Jack Daniels. Other than this Unaged Tennessee Rye, there is also a Rested Tennessee Rye which was released in 2014 and an Aged Tennessee Rye which will be released at a future date.
