    59.90

In 1843, William Matheson obtained a license to produce spirits, and the Glenmorangie Distillery Company began its operations. A pioneer since the 1960s in using American oak Bourbon barrels (instead of the traditional Spanish sherry casks), it now supplies fine single malts to the entire world.

Lasanta means “Warmth and Passion.” And Glenmorangie Lasanta offers both to its fans. With aromas of grapes, honey, caramel, and truffle, along with notes of burnt sugar, crème brûlée, and rum, which — with the addition of water — reveal a second layer of aromas like caramelized pears, walnuts, and sherry. Flavors of Spanish sherry, orange, chocolate, and spicy notes follow, ending in a long, delightful finish with lingering tastes of chocolate and orange.

Golden in colour and honeyed on the palate, The Nectar is made by finishing Glenmorangie single malt in casks used to age some of the world’s great sweet wines. These include Sauternes and Monbazillac from France, Moscatel from Spain and Tokaji from Hungary. A fitting successor to the discontinued Nectar D’or and an excellent after-dinner dram.

It was the memory of entering a French pastry shop that prompted Glenmorangie head of whisky creation Dr Bill Lumsden to create the brilliant Glenmorangie The Nectar D’Or. Sadly, in 2023 Glenmorangie made the announcement that Nectar D’or was being discontinued, but we weren’t upset for too long because the Highland Scotch whisky brand has created a more than fitting successor: Glenmorangie The Nectar 16 Year Old

It’s a single malt that was aged for 14 years in bourbon casks that was then finished for two more years in a new combination of great sweet white wine casks. This includes French Sauternes and Monbazillac to bring notes of orchard fruit and buttery pastries, Spanish Moscatel for sweet, syrupy dessert flavours, and Hungarian Tokaji barrels for nuttier, honeyed elements.

Glenmorangie’s only lightly peated expression. A tribute to the days-gone by when all Highland whiskies were crafted with peated malted barley. A marriage of whisky distilled from peated and non-peated malted barley, matured in American ex-Bourbon casks. A three-dimensional whisky where Glenmorangie’s famous delicacy is complemented by wood spiciness and subtle hints of smoke.

When the island’s grapes are ripe, the community unites to handpick the fruit, destined for Madeira wine. Once their work is done, the streets erupt with joyous celebrations.

Aged 16 years, The Vindima marries whisky aged in bourbon casks and whisky finished in Malmsey casks – the sweetest style of Madeira. The deep purple tones of its packaging are inspired by the tones of ripened grapes.

The 18 Years Old is a single malt Scotch whisky of serious distinction. Once it has spent fifteen years maturing in American white oak casks approximately 30% is transferred into Spanish Oloroso casks to spend a further three years maturing. Then, when both elements have reached 18 years, we blend them back together to create a whisky with a rich bouquet and full, rounded flavour. For a whisky of this age this expression has maintained, thanks to our delicate floral spirit and fine Oloroso casks, an incredible degree of vibrancy where the raisiny sweetness of the sherry has been toned down by the nuttiness of the American oak.

  • Glenmorangie A Tale of Ice Cream (70cl, 46%)

Glenmorangie A Tale of Ice Cream (70cl, 46%)

    97.50

To create a single malt evocative of a trip to the ice cream parlour, legendary whisky maker Dr Bill Lumsden aged this one-off Glenmorangie in a combination of bourbon barrels and toasted new oak. He carefully selected these new casks with high concentrations of vanillin, an organic compound present in oak which imparts flavours of creamy vanilla. As a result, this inviting Highland whisky is densely layered with notes of coconut, brioche, almonds and popcorn with hints of lemon, sweet anise and – of course – ice cream.

The Glenmorangie ‘A Tale of…’ series expands with another expression that reflects director of whisky creation Dr Bill Lumsden’s sweet tooth. The good doctor was inspired by his favourite ice cream parlour to create this whisky, which is rich, creamy, and full of vanilla flavours.

To achieve this, Lumsden selected casks rich in vanillin, the aromatic compound which brings vanilla flavours to whisky. The good people at Glenmo explain: “When you toast barrels, the lignin (which aids the wood’s structure) breaks down and releases compounds including vanillin. Glenmorangie’s high-vanillin casks were toasted in a particular way, to create higher concentrations of vanillin”.

Glenmorangie A Tale of Ice Cream represents the first time the distillery has used casks toasted to achieve this effect. This followed experimentation with a variety of different woods before selecting virgin oak casks toasted in this particular way. The press release also makes a point of noting that the whisky does not contain vanilla extract. Which would be ILLEGAL in Scotch whisky.

The intrepid Dr Bill loves a morning woodland ramble, and on his regular adventures he’s been inspired to combine the flavours of the forest with his beloved whisky.

By kilning the barley used to make this whisky with juniper, birch bark and heather blossom, Glenmorangie have infused their single malt with the earthy, nutty, vegetal and floral notes that you might encounter in the forest. It’s actually a marriage of whisky aged in both sherry and bourbon barrels as well as Glenmorangie whisky aged in the rare Japanese wood. It was all bottled together at 46% ABV and sports a label and packaging made in collaboration with celebrated Japanese artist, Yamaguchi Akira. It’s their perspective of the city’s contrasts and layers of history and culture that inspired the design.

Created from an irreplaceable spirit celebrated in an inimitable assemblage of casks, Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1989 is the second release in our exclusive Vintage Collection, Bond House No. 1. This rich and complex whisky emerged from some of the final spirit ever distilled in our former still house – home to Scotland’s tallest stills for more than a century. As it lay maturing, the vintage’s distinctive character inspired an exceptional marriage of whiskies, conceived to complement the most prestigious parcel of all – finished in ex-Côte- Rôtie wine casks. After 27 years of judicious maturation, the subtle finesse of Glenmorangie unites with a rare intensity, in a momentous single malt.

Glenmorangie have kicked off their Bond House No.1 series of vintage expressions with an absolutely stonking 1990 vintage single malt! This terrific tipple was distilled right when everyone realised that the year 2000 might actually happen, and left to age in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-Sherry casks for quarter of a century before being bottled at 43% ABV. The distillers in the Highlands figured that a whisky as smashing as this needed a rather handsome bottle too, which is always a treat.

In his Whisky Bible 2017, Jim Murray gave this a massive 94 points (earning a Liquid Gold Award), and also took home a Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2017!

And on it goes with the Bond House No. 1 Collection, in which exclusive vintages are released: Following the Glenmorangie Grand Vintage 1996, the sixth edition, the Glenmorangie Grand Vintage 1997 now was presented.

The basis for the 23-year-old Highland Single Malt is whisky, which was initially matured for 10 years in ex-Bourbon casks before spending the next 13 years in ex-red wine barrels from Château Montrose from the appellation Saint-Estèphe, Bordeaux. During this time it developed extraordinary dark berry fruit flavors, as the latest press release from Moet Hennessy reports.

The vintage bottling was rounded off by the combination with whisky, which was matured exclusively in ex-Bourbon casks, and with whisky from ex-Oloroso sherry casks. And we read as well about “further, secret casks” …

Dr. Bill Lumsden, Director of Whisky Creation at Glenmorangie, comments on this seventh edition of the Bond House No. 1 Collection: “The Glenmorangie Grand Vintage 1997 is dramatically different: lively with aromas of red berries, seductive spice, melting marzipan and floral notes. Inspired by my dream of expressive single malts and in the spirit of the kaleidoscopic style of Glenmorangie.”

Back in 1998, we started seeing some of Dr. Bill Lumsden’s first experiments as that was the year he was appointed director of whisky creation. For this Grand Vintage Malt, the whisky was matured in a variety of casks, including bourbon, sherry, and virgin new charred oak, the latter being one of the first times Glenmorangie used this wood profile. This is special stuff, and something of a time capsule to the early days of Dr. Bill.

Gouden Carolus Esmeralda Limited edition 2019 50cl, 46%

    199

Gouden Carolus Esmeralda becomes the 6th vintage at Gouden Carolus. Esmeralda is a limited edition of 8000 bottles on the occasion of the 6th anniversary of Stokerij De Molenberg. After an initial maturation of 30 months in ex Bourbon barrels, a second finish of 48 months in Madeira wine barrels followed. Exactly 600 years ago, Portuguese explorers arrived on the island of eternal spring and named it after the abundance of wood (‘Madeira’). This green emerald (‘Esmeralda’) in the Atlantic Ocean is known for its fortified wines. The notes of raisins and nuts give this fruity and spicy whiskey a seductive elegance. The soft sweet taste is broken with a slight acidity and results in a long, rich aftertaste. The 6th Anniversary Edition Esmeralda was appropriately given a green color that fits nicely with the previous colors. The previous edition,
