Description
Glenlivet Alpha 70cl, 50% is one of the most distinctive modern limited releases from The Glenlivet. Released in 2013, it was presented in an opaque black bottle and launched without tasting notes or cask details, with the whole concept built around letting drinkers approach the whisky without any preconceptions.
What makes this bottle especially attractive is the way it combines mystery, presentation and substance. Alpha was bottled at 50% ABV, released in very limited numbers, and quickly became one of the most talked-about Glenlivet special editions of its time. Even now, it stands apart from the standard range because the blacked-out packaging and deliberately hidden production details gave it a very different identity from a normal official bottling.
Why Choose Glenlivet Alpha 70cl, 50%
Glenlivet Alpha 70cl, 50% stands out because it is not simply a limited bottle, but a concept release with a clear place in Glenlivet’s modern history. The mystery-led launch, the stronger 50% strength and the unusual presentation make it much more memorable than a standard official expression.
Ideal For.
This bottle is ideal for Glenlivet collectors who want one of the distillery’s most recognisable modern limited editions.
It is ideal for drinkers who enjoy fruit-led Speyside whisky with vanilla, tropical fruit, citrus, oak spice and a fuller mouthfeel. This is supported by published tasting notes for the release.
It is also ideal for buyers looking for a conversation-piece bottle with black presentation, higher strength and a clearly limited outturn.

Collector’s Note
This bottle has strong collector appeal because it captures a very specific moment when Glenlivet stepped away from traditional presentation and released a whisky built around secrecy and discovery. That black bottle, the lack of disclosed details and the limited outturn make Alpha far more distinctive than a normal official bottling.
It is also a bottle that feels important in a modern Glenlivet collection because it is so instantly recognisable. Even among special editions, Alpha stands out on the shelf, and the 3,350-bottle outturn gives it extra weight for collectors who value official limited releases with a clear identity.
