Description
Glenmorangie Signet 70cl, 46% is a luxurious Highland single malt created to explore a darker, richer side of Glenmorangie’s traditionally elegant and fruit-forward character. Its inspiration came from Dr Bill Lumsden’s love of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee and his desire to capture flavours reminiscent of espresso, mocha and melting dark chocolate.
At the centre of Signet is Glenmorangie’s distinctive chocolate malt spirit. This is produced from intensely roasted malted barley rather than actual chocolate, creating deep coffee, cocoa and toasted flavours. The spirit is distilled only once each year in Glenmorangie’s tall copper stills, with the distillery focusing production specifically on this unusual malt.
The whisky is matured across a carefully selected combination of bourbon casks for creaminess, sherry casks for sweetness and virgin charred oak for spice. These components are then balanced with some of Glenmorangie’s oldest whisky stocks, although the exact recipe and ages remain closely guarded.
Bottled at 46%, Signet delivers an intensely rich profile of bitter mocha, espresso, dark chocolate, butterscotch, orange peel, roasted nuts and warming spice. Its velvety texture, distinctive black presentation and unusual production method make it one of Glenmorangie’s most recognisable premium expressions.
Why Choose Glenmorangie Signet 70cl, 46%
This expression stands out because its chocolate and coffee character begins during the production of the spirit rather than coming only from cask maturation. The highly roasted chocolate malt creates an espresso-like intensity that is unlike the lighter profile normally associated with Glenmorangie.
For drinkers, Signet offers an exceptional balance between sweetness and bitterness. Dark chocolate, mocha and roasted coffee are softened by creamy butterscotch, dried fruit and orange, while virgin charred oak contributes cinnamon, clove and toasted spice.
For collectors, Signet is an important modern Glenmorangie release first introduced in 2008. Its unusual annual distillation, inclusion of rare mature whisky and luxurious presentation give it strong prestige, even though it remains an ongoing premium expression rather than a numbered limited edition.
The whisky also received major recognition when it scored 97 points and was named Whisky of the Year at the 2016 International Whisky Competition.

Collector’s Note
Glenmorangie Signet has strong collector appeal because it represents one of the distillery’s most technically distinctive modern whiskies. Its chocolate malt spirit is produced during a dedicated annual distillation, and the finished whisky combines bourbon, sherry and virgin oak maturation with parcels from Glenmorangie’s oldest stocks.
The original Signet was released in 2008 and has remained an important premium expression within the Glenmorangie range. Different bottle and presentation-case designs have appeared over time, allowing collectors to follow the development of the packaging while the central mocha-inspired character remains consistent.
Although Signet is not an individually numbered release, its specialist production, high-quality presentation and international award history give it greater collector interest than a standard core-range bottling.
Complete examples retaining their original presentation case, clean labels, intact closure and strong fill level are the most attractive for display and long-term ownership.
