  • ( 0 Customer Review )

Originally a limited edition to celebrate the distillery’s 200th anniversary, Laphroaig 16 is now a small-batch occasional release. It takes the distinctive medicinal, seaside character of Laphroaig’s spirit and gives it a few extra years to mellow out and calm down, creating a rich and smoky whisky with more complexity and an elegance that’s not often seen elsewhere in the Laphroaig range – spicy peat smoke with well-worn leather and soft, sweet vanilla.

Islay Mist Blended Whisky 70cl, 40%

In stock
  • ( 0 Customer Review )

A very good value, Islay based blend which is said to be chock full of Laphroaig. A great gift for someone who loves smoke, particularly as the price of smoky single malts keeps rising.

Islay Mist was created on Islay in the 1920s using whisky from the Laphroaig Distillery as well as choice Speyside distilleries. Initially blended for the 21st birthday celebration of the son and heir of the then Lord Sargadale, this gold-medal winning whisky still carries the seal of the Lord of the Isles.
Staying true to the founding recipe, Islay Mist remains the original peated blend with characteristic balanced smoky and peaty tones between layers of mellow oaky maltiness.

Initiation brings provocation. All of the opulent spirit in Octomore 08.2 spent the first six years of its life in one of three different styles of wine cask. French Mourvedre – a red wine grape that has a reputation for producing intense red fruit, and strong, earthy, even gamey flavours. Austrian sweet wines – full bodied and charming with an ability to challenge convention with innovative techniques. French Sauternes – casks from the Graves section in Bordeaux that previously held some of the most revered and exclusive dessert wines the world has ever seen.

Laphroaig’s Brodir single malt Scotch whisky was originally released to the Travel Retail market. You can probably guess what ‘Brodir’ means in ancient Norse – of course, it’s ‘Brother’.

For this expression, the Islay distillers first matured the whisky in ex-bourbon barrels before transferring it over to casks which previous held Ruby Port. The combination of Laphroaig’s classic coastal peaty gorgeousness with the elegance of the Ruby Port finish make Brodir a very handsome dram indeed.

This is a very exciting limited edition 22 year old single malt Scotch from Ardbeg. It’s a notable expression because it was distilled in 1996, when Ardbeg was under threat of demolition. This stunning expression from Islay’s Ardbeg distillery on the Kildalton Coast is named after a nearby loch (pronounced “Oog-a-dal”). It’s the perfect example of how sweet and savoury notes can work together spectacularly – you’ll find Ardbeg’s maritime salinity intact here, combined with dried fruit notes imparted by time spent in sherry casks. An Oa is named after the Mull of Oa in the south west of Islay, which offers the Kildaton coast (where Ardbeg distillery is situated) some protection from the worst the Atlantic has to offer! As such, An Oa is intended to show a more approachable side to Ardbeg single malt that’s as rounded as the Oa peninsular, without losing the characteristic distillery style. In the summer of 2017 this became the first addition to Ardbeg’s core range in over a decade.

Maturation took place in a combination of casks including Pedro Ximénez, charred virgin oak and ex-bourbon, which were all brought together to marry in Dr. Bill Lumsden’s new ‘Gathering Vat’!

This expression offers an irresistible doubling of flavour due to the double maturation in two casks made of American oak.

Still-maturing whisky from our standard ex-bourbon barrels is transferred to quarter casks and left to rest in our warehouse just a stone throw from the Atlantic shore.

This process represents Laphroaig breathing new life into a once-defunct tradition: the use of the smaller cask size, which ensures increased contact with the oak, creating a soft and velvety edge to complement Laphroaig distinctive peatiness.

On the nose the sensation is toffee and caramel, caused by the vanillas and tannins of the American oak, plus a dryness from the wood oil.

The finish is long and alternates between this sweetness and smoke.

This Laphroaig is created from carefully selected casks of each of our key styles. Mostly, these are historic styles, with one notable addition: the heart of the spirit is drawn from a final maturation in American oak casks rarely used for scotch whisky.

With spirit selected by our master distiller from Quarter Cask, our PX Cask and Triple Wood (Oloroso sherry) and a final addition of 10 Year Old, it represents a subtle blending of peat, oak and sweetness.

Bottled at natural colour, the result is an exquisite Laphroaig with our trademark peat reek matched by an additional layer of complexity and depth brought about by the fusion of the maturation styles and different oaks.

  • ( 0 Customer Review )

Our 10 Year Old is the original Laphroaig, distilled the same way today as when Ian Hunter invented it more than 75 years ago. It is the foundation of all other Laphroaig expressions.

In making Laphroaig, malted barley is dried over a peat fire. The smoke from this peat, found only on Islay, gives Laphroaig its particularly rich flavour.

Those enjoying the 10 Year Old will first notice the bold, smoky taste, followed by a hint of seaweed and a surprising sweetness. This full-bodied variant is the foundation of all Laphroaig expressions and comes with a long finish.

This whisky was also named 2019 Best Single Malt Scotch 10 Years & Under by Jim Murrayâ Whisky Bible.
