Campbeltown is one of five areas in Scotland categorised as a distinct malt whisky producing region, and is home to the Campbeltown single malts. At one point it had over 30 distilleries and proclaimed itself “the whisky capital of the world”. However, a focus on quantity rather than quality, and the combination of prohibition and the Great Depression in the United States, led to most distilleries going out of business. Today only three active distilleries remain in Campbeltown: Glen Scotia, Glengyle, and Springbank.
The well known folk song titled Campbeltown Loch, I wish you were whisky is based on the town’s history in this industry.

Glen Scotia 15 Year Old (70cl, 46%)
This is the 15 year old single malt Scotch whisky from Glen Scotia in the Campbeltown region, released in 2015 as part of a redesign for their range. The distillers use specially selected American oak casks to age this expression, which compliment the fruit-forward and subtly coastal whisky rather well.
Glen Scotia Victoriana Cask Strength (70cl, 54.2%)
Glen Scotia Victoriana has been bottled at cask strength and finished in heavily-charred oak casks. Victoriana has notes of richly-spiced fruit, vanilla and oak throughout the palate, followed by a gently smoky finish.
Springbank 10 Year Old (70cl, 46%)
Blended from a mixture of bourbon and sherry casks, the light colour of this malt belies the richness of its character. The nose has a wide range of aromas, from citrus fruits to pears and a hint of peat, while the palate shows touches of smoke, vanilla essence, nutmeg, cinnamon and the salty tang characteristic of the distillery. Picked up the top prize in its category at the World Whiskies Awards 2014.

Springbank Vintage 1997 Batch No.2 bottled 2008 (70cl, 54.9%)
This is the second batch of Springbank Vintage 1997. The first batch proved very popular indeed, and when this one was bottled in 2008, it was yet another stunning release from the distillery in Campbeltown. Something must have been happening in 1997… It was the year that Daft Punk released their first album, and the Chemical Brothers released brilliant their second album in 1997 too… Perhaps great electronic music is the the perfect soundtrack for distilling great whisky.
Quite a highly acclaimed Springbank chosen by Frank McHardy, distilled in 1997 and bottled in June 2007 at cask strength.

Longrow CV (70cl, 46%)
A NAS Longrow to accompany the 18 year-old that most of us will never get a bottle of. Subtle it aint, but fans of peaty, citrussy young drams will not be disappointed. Picked up the top prize in its category at the World Whisky Awards 2010, and another gong at the Malt Maniacs awards in the same year.
