Blended malt Scotch whisky is slightly different from a standard blended whisky. The reason is it includes no grain whisky, it is simply a blend of single malts. Grain whisky is cheap and very easy to produce, for it is distilled in column stills. However, it does not have the same depth and character as malt whisky. Thus blended malts are usually much more characterful than blended whiskies. There are some great Scotch blended malt whiskies. Take the great Compass Box Oak Cross which features whisky from Teaninich as well as a secret whisky from the village of Brora and one from somewhere in Carron.

Johnnie Walker King George V was designed to replicate Johnnie Walker from this day, some Port Ellen was used in the making of this alongside Cardhu, Royal Lochnagar and some well aged grain whisky.
Presented in a stunning decanter and packaging at celebrate Chinese New Year 2021.
The George V edition of Johnnie Walker’s Blue label, launched in celebration of Chinese New Year 2021, is red rather than blue. It comes presented in a spectacular display box, complete with incredible artwork. The blend is named in honour of the monarch who in 1934 granted Johnnie Walker the royal warrant – making this officially a scotch fit for a king.

The single malt whiskies used in The Famous Grouse blend include the Edrington-owned Highland Park and The Macallan. Its emblem is the Red Grouse, Scotland’s national game bird.
