Newbarns’ iconic PDB, barrel aged! Super-limited – a rare treat. Newbarns head brewer Gordon says ”Being in Scotland is definitely beneficial when it comes to sourcing barrels and knowing exactly what was in them. We’ve had the opportunity to really pick exactly what we wanted for our first Barrel Aged Plain Dark Beer. We used four barrels that previously held: 6 year old Ben Riach (a sherry octave), 24 year old Macallan, a 19 year old blended Speyside malt (a sherry butt) and a 52 year old Bonnington grain whisky. An added bonus for us is that the Bonnington distillery was a Leith-based distillery that was less than a 5 minute walk from where Newbarns is now.
