A beautifully deep and rich 40-Year-Old Tawny Port from the illustrious Sandeman. It is intensely flavoured and wonderfully smooth, offering up notes of vanilla, oak, honey, nuts and spices with juicy dried apricot and fig. Though more powerful and concentrated than its 20-Year-Old stablemate, it still exhibits excellent vibrancy and balance.

This Magnum Collection 241 by Louis Roederer is a flourishing and structured Champagne, elegant and energetic, with a unique vibration. It is complex, fine and straight at the same time modern and powerful while remaining a great classic.

This Champagne Collection 241 by Louis Roederer was renamed in this way to refer to the 241th blend (harvest 2016) that was a huge part in the elaboration of this great Champagne. This was a year that was particularly favourable to the quality of the grapes with a fresh spring and a hot summer ensuring a good maturity of the harvest

Bollinger La Grande Annee 2014 Champagne (75cl, 12%)

A blend of 61% Pinot Noir and 39% Chardonnay sourced from 19 different crus, mainly Ay and Verzenay for the Pinot Noir whilst for the Chardonnay Chouilly and Oiry. Fermented entirely in aged oak barrels.
A fine, satiny mousse slowly recedes to reveal a pale straw gold tinged coloured base that has a nibble stream of delicate bubbles flowing through it. The nose is magnificent, complex aromatics of baked bread, yeast lees and brioche soar from the glass with cashew, subtle citrus, hazelnut and ginger ensuing. On the palate Bollinger’s hallmark richness and power are shaped by vivid acidity with mouth filling flavours of baked bread, citrus, yeast lees and cashew trailed by some brioche and almond like characters. Dry chalk tinged finish with a long airy yet sculptured aftertaste.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 12%

The 2014 La Grande Année is stunning. In fact, it is one of the best recent editions I can remember tasting. What comes through most is the wine’s sizzling energy and tension, qualities that aren’t often associated with Bollinger, where the Champagnes tend to show more breadth and volume. In 2014, readers will find a Grande Année built on linear intensity and drive.
The 2014 is a blend taken from 19 villages, 61% Pinot Noir and 39% Chardonnay instead of the more typical 70/30 mix. For the second time in two decades (the first was 2007), Verzenay takes the lead in the Pinots over Aÿ, more or less an inverse from the norm. Verzenay, a north-facing village in the Montagne de Reims that saw less rain than Aÿ and most of the Vallée de la Marne, yields Pinots of energy more than volume. That, married with Chardonnays mostly from the Côtes des Blancs (predominantly Chouilly, Vertus, Oiry and Cramant), results in a truly magical Grande Année that will delight Champagne fans for several decades. I can’t recommend the 2014 highly enough. It’s a total knock-out. Disgorged: April, 2021. Dosage: 8 grams per liter. Drink 2024-2044.

Dal Forno Romano Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore 2017

The 2017 Valpolicella Superiore Monte Lodoletta is a towering wine that shows impeccable concentration, richness and tight balance. The wine opens to deep layers of black fruit, spice, smoky mesquite and campfire ash. It shows big tannic structure that comes with lots of fruit weight and textural padding. But no matter, this is a wine you’ll want to put aside before drinking!

Chateau Pipeau Grand Cru Classe Saint-Emilion Magnum 2016 1.5L 14.5%

The 2016 vintage was characterized by extreme climatic conditions with record rainfall in the spring, followed
by a hot, dry summer. The flowering was rapid and homogeneous. The leaf removal was only carried out on
the rising sun side to avoid any phenomenon of scalding. The green harvest was carried out in two stages, the
first in July to ensure optimum distribution and aeration of the future harvest; a second in August resulting
in the elimination of maturing clusters. The overall maturation phase was exceptional with favorable weather
conditions, little or no moisture and cool nights. The introduction of sexual confusion in the vineyard has
prevented the appearance of perforations due to the budworms of the cluster. All these parameters made it
possible to determine with precision the optimum harvest date for each plot with perfect maturation and an
impeccable sanitary condition.
Vinification : Alcoholic fermentation at low temperature to preserve the freshness of the fruit
Barrels selection : Quality and heating adapted according to the typicity of each batch
Malolactic fermentation and aging : 50% in new barrels 50% in stainless steel vats

The 20th anniversary bottling of Testamatta made, from the 2019 vintage, in brand new winemaking facilities in Florence. This just shines from the moment it’s poured. Layered and complex this is a gem of a wine filled with cherry, raspberry, damson and caramel notes alongside a savoury edge that makes it so moreish. Tannins that support but don’t overwhelm give a nice overall weight to the palate while the flavous linger on the long finish. Made from old vines on stony soils on the Tuscan hilltops. Grapes are selected and sourced from the best five vineyards.

Country: France Region: Burgundy

Varietal: 100% Chardonnay

Vintage: 2018  Colour: White  Style: Dry

Producer: Maison Joseph Drouhin

Description:

Starting with the vintage 2008, the name “Vaudon” will be associated with Joseph Drouhin for all its Chablis wines as a sign of the firm’s allegiance to this historical terroir www.drouhin-vaudon.com

Grape Variety : Chardonnay.

Vineyard
Site: a famous vineyard whose relief has no equivalent in Burgundy. Its round shape and steep slope evoke an ancient amphitheater. There are two major exposures: one is due south in the northern section and the other south west in the southern section. It is one of the largest among the seven Grand Crus of Chablis.
History & tradition: the name comes the French “chemin des vaudésirs” (path of the vaudésirs) cutting the vineyard down the middle. In the sixties, when the Chablis vineyards were all but abandoned, Robert Drouhin recognized the potential of this region which had been ravaged by the phylloxera disease a century before. He was one of the first Burgundy propriétaires who set about revitalizing the area.
Soil: the Kimmeridgian limestone contains millions of tiny marine fossils embedded in a kind of whitish mortar which may have been once the bottom of the sea…hundreds of million years ago. This marine origin gives the wines of Chablis their unique flavour.
Drouhin estate: 1.4 ha. (3.5 acres)
Average age of the vines: 30 years

Viticulture
Biological cultivation since 1990 and biodynamic cultivation since 1999.
Soil maintenance: age-old methods. Ploughing: “buttage” (hilling up around the vine-stocks) in autumn; “débuttage” (ploughing back in spring);

work between the rows and the vine stocks done with manual tools only.
Treatment: only authorized products for biological cultivation are used – infusions and macerations of plant materials, sulfur and copper, powdered rock. Natural predators are not eliminated.
Plantation density: 8,000 to 10,000 stocks/ha.
Pruning: double Guyot “Vallée de la Marne” (for its resistance to frost).
Yield: we aim for a lower yield, such as it existed before the new law. This yield is therefore the present maximum yield minus 20%.
Average yield at the Domaine: 46.62hl/ha (the yield currently authorized for the appellation is now 54hl/ha).

Vinification
Harvesting: by hand.
Pressing: very slow so as to respect the fruit. Juices from the last pressings are not retained.

Ageing
Type: in oak barrel (0% new wood).
Length: 12 months.
Origin of the wood: French oak forests.
Weathering of the wood: Joseph Drouhin insists on total control of the weathering for a period of 3 years, one of the contributing elements to the elegance of the wine.
Follow-up: barrel by barrel.

Throughout the ageing process, decisions are taken only after careful tasting evaluation. The data obtained is completed through technical analysis. As with every other Joseph Drouhin wine, absolute priority is given to the true expression of terroir and character of the vintage.

Vintage
The wines show great purity of taste and a pleasant floral style. Chablis is very mineral in character, almost briny.
