Single malt Scotch whisky is one of the most revered spirits in the world. It has such scope for variation, it can offer complexity or simplicity, unbridled power or a subtle whisper. To legally be called a single malt Scotch, the whisky must be distilled at a single distillery in Scotland, in a copper pot still from nothing other than malted barley, yeast and water. It must then be aged in an oak cask for at least three years and a day, and be bottled at no less than 40% abv.

The previous release of a 21 Year Old Glenlivet was called Archive and it won pretty much every award going including a double gold medal in San Francisco, a gold at the IWSC, and best newcomer in a Chevy Chase movie at the Shepton Mallet film festival. Maybe not that last one. So there’s no pressure on this new expression. It’s been treated to a triple finish in first-fill oloroso sherry casks, Troncais oak Cognac, and colheita Port casks. The latter are essentially tawny Ports from a particular year. This rich trio has made the 21 a decadent blend of fruit and spice.

Perhaps we got distracted mid-sentence by a colourful bird flying past, or a robot vacuum cleaner buzzing around our feet? The answer is simple, this is no mistake! Going forward, Ardnamurchan’s AD/ bottlings will no longer have all those confusing digits. The whisky remains unchanged though, following its traditional combination of 50% peated and 50% unpeated malt, matured in a combination of 65% bourbon and 35% sherry casks.
A fruity, sweet single malt from Ardnamurchan distillery, AD was made with a combination of peated and un-peated malt and matured in both ex-bourbon casks and ex-sherry casks. Aromas of toasted marshmallows, pebble beaches, orange oil and popcorn fill the nose, complemented by notes of melted chocolate, marshmallow, lime cordial, sea salt, bitter orange, dark chocolate and salted popcorn throughout the palate.

A mixture of ripe mangoes, warm spices and Colombian coffee with subtle oak on the palate. This is one of its kind.
The 2015 release of Dalmore 30 Year Old is limited to 888 bottles. Aged in oloroso-sherry butts, this has notes of Christmas cake, coffee, honey and spice.

These were married for several months. Included with this bottle is a sheet with graphical representations of the flavour profile of the whisky from each of 31 casks used!
