Unveiling the Legacy of Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 Maxwell House 43% 1.5 Liter Vintage Bottled for Maxwell House Hotel
Whisky (or whiskey) is produced in various guises all over the world. Japanese Whisky, Irish Whiskey and American Whiskeys (including Bourbon) are challenging Scotch Whisky, with of them many winning notable awards and accolades. Meanwhile, whiskies from countries as diverse as India, Canada, Sweden, Wales, Taiwan and England are also becoming increasingly noteworthy in both quality and abundance.
The distillation process spread to Scotland and Ireland by the 15th century via Alexandrian Greeks, Medieval Arabs and Latin Europeans. The Scots and the Irish, who already had a well-developed tradition of farming cereal crops, used the technique to distil from a variety of fermented grain mashes to produce a spirit, most closely resembling today’s new make spirits.
The process of distilling fermented grain mash and aging it in oak barrels to make Whisky (or whiskey) has spread the world and has resulted in a remarkable range of styles, including Single Malt Whisky, Blended Malt Whisky, Grain Whisky, Rye Whiskey and Blended Whisky (containing both Single Malt Whisky and Grain Whisky).

Jack Daniels Maxwell House Decanter 1971 1.5L
This bottle is comes with an-register tag bottle number No. 161506
BOX INCLUDED in excellent condition
The Maxwell House Decanter was considered one of the most beautiful of its time and oddly enough it was not Jack Daniel who was responsible for designing it. That honor instead went to Lem Motlow. The origin of this decanter’s name dates back to the year 1859 when Colonel John Overton Jr. began construction on a new hotel in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Ironically, had it not been for a night out on the town, this hotel might never have been built…
Over the years, the Maxwell House Hotel became a well-known stopping point for famous people passing through the South. Lem Motlow knew of the hotel’s popularity and prestige and saw this as a business opportunity for the Distillery…
To commemorate the decanter that Lem Motlow first presented to Colonel Overton, the Distillery released a half gallon replica bottle in 1971.

Johnnie Walker 18 Year Old Platinum Label 75cl, 40%
The penultimate release in Johnnie Walker’s series of standard editions is Platinum Label. The 18-year-old blend occupies the space between the non age statement releases of Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve and the strictly top shelf Johnnie Walker Blue Label. Housed in an impressive oversized hard plastic box, Platinum Label is what Johnnie Walker considers to be their most appropriate blend to give as a gift. The gorgeous bottle and overall presentation make an impression before popping the cork, to be sure.
Enjoying their position as the world’s top-selling whisky label has afforded the blenders at Johnnie Walker access to a wide range of single malts from which to shape their signature releases. In days gone by, master distillers would create “private blends” out of their more premium spirits. This is how today’s Johnnie Walker Platinum Label is intended to be viewed and marketed. The packaging and presentation does this justice as the bottle stands apart from others on any display shelf, perhaps only taking an aesthetic second chair to the top-tier Blue Label. This is certainly appropriate given their respective positions in the overall lineup, with Blue Label commanding a suggested retail price nearly double that of the somewhat premium-priced Platinum Label.
In terms of profile, Platinum Label is best described as having a strong representation of the Speyside region of Scotland punctuated by the peat smoke of Islay. The release is bottled at an easily approachable 40% ABV (80 proof) and features an 18 year age statement.
In their place will arise Johnnie Walker’s Platinum Label, an 18 Year Old blended whisky which is reported to have more of an intense, peaty character when compared to the Clynelish dominant Gold Label. Platinum is positioned between Johnnie Walker Blue Label and Johnnie Walker Gold Reserve Label within the hierarchy.

Ardbeg 14 Year Old Anthology The Unicorns Tale (70cl, 46%)
Ardbeg 14yo Unicorn Tale
A Unicorn’s Tale is the second edition in Ardbeg’s Anthology series, following on from the success of the first Anthology release, Harpy’s Tale. It’s a single malt Scotch whisky matured in a marriage of Madeira casks and bourbon casks, bottled at 14 years old.
Each release reimagines a mythological beast which might be real – or might be a mistaken glimpse at one of Islay’s native beasties… The story of the unicorn at Ardbeg begins on a dark night after a fête at the Distillery when the clip-clop of hooves was heard echoing around the yard. The workers suspected Rory, the Distillery’s greedy Shetland Pony who’s known for his ill-temper and devilishly sweet tooth, but when they ventured outside to investigate they witnessed a horse-like creature rearing up against a full moon, with a horn protruding from its head. The next day, rumours swirled about a sighting of Scotland’s national animal… a Unicorn. Had Rory simply raided an ice cream truck and walked out of his unlatched gate? Or was something more mythical afoot?

Teeling Sommelier Selection Douro Old Vines Casks 7Ocl, 46%
Teeling’s classic Small Batch blend of malt and grain contains whiskey aged in rum casks, but for the Sommelier Selection that’s replaced with wine casks from around the world, hence the name. For this edition, red wine barrels from the Portuguese Douro Valley were used, specifically, wine pressed from the harvest of vines that were over 25 years old. Expect some lovely dark fruit and spicy notes in a whiskey bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered.
