Whisky (or whiskey) is produced in various guises all over the world. Japanese Whisky, Irish Whiskey and American Whiskeys (including Bourbon) are challenging Scotch Whisky, with of them many winning notable awards and accolades. Meanwhile, whiskies from countries as diverse as India, Canada, Sweden, Wales, Taiwan and England are also becoming increasingly noteworthy in both quality and abundance.
The distillation process spread to Scotland and Ireland by the 15th century via Alexandrian Greeks, Medieval Arabs and Latin Europeans. The Scots and the Irish, who already had a well-developed tradition of farming cereal crops, used the technique to distil from a variety of fermented grain mashes to produce a spirit, most closely resembling today’s new make spirits.
The process of distilling fermented grain mash and aging it in oak barrels to make Whisky (or whiskey) has spread the world and has resulted in a remarkable range of styles, including Single Malt Whisky, Blended Malt Whisky, Grain Whisky, Rye Whiskey and Blended Whisky (containing both Single Malt Whisky and Grain Whisky).

Bowmore Legend (70cl, 40%)
Bowmore Legend is the NAS entry-level expression of the distillery, age between 8 to 10 years on North American Oak casks which previously contained Bourbon. A young, rather gentle Bowmore. Whilst not massively complex or full-bodied, Legend is still a great value for money malt.

Laphroaig 10 Year Old Cask Strength Batch 016 Bot.2022 (70cl, 58.5%)
Our Original Cask Strength is the purest way to experience the taste created by the land, sea and air of Islay. Aged 10 years, it’s barrier-filtered from the cask to remove unwanted char particles – and that’s all that comes between you and the real Laphroaig.
We don’t chill-filter our Original Cask Strength, and we don’t reduce its natural strength. So, what you pour is what we draw from the barrel — the heart of charred seasoned oak barrels, our blue peat smoke and nutty barley, in a truly natural experience.
Batch 16 is our most powerful expression within the Cask Strength family, characterised by a 58.5% proof point and notes of vanilla and sea salt intermingled with hints of freshly ground black pepper and pork crackling. A dram poured neat will fill the nose with aromas of sweet apples and caramelised pastry, underpinned with a tang of cereal and tanned leather notes. The finish, a mixture of gentle spice, charred oak and smoked mackerel with an oily mouthful.
Lagavulin 8 Year Old Gift Set Saveurs D’écosse (70cl, 48%)
Originally launched as a limited edition to make the distillery’s 200th anniversary, the Lagavulin 8 Years Old was so successful that it had to be added the permanent range. In this gift box, the bottle is joined by two tasting glasses. What a great gift idea!
Heaven’s Door Straight Rye (70cl, 43%)
Here we have Heaven’s Door Straight Rye, created by Bob Dylan (yes, that exact Bob Dylan you’re thinking of) and Marc Bushala (founder of Angel’s Envy Bourbon) in a church in Tennessee. Interestingly, for their rye, they have chosen to finish the whiskey in toasted oak cigar barrels (they’re cigar shaped, they didn’t just have a load of cigars stashed in them) from Vosges in France! Very intrigued to see the impact this finishing period has had on the whiskey…
Heaven’s Door Tennessee Bourbon (70cl, 42%)
The Heaven’s Door range of whiskey have been created by Bob Dylan (yes, actual Bob Dylan, the legendary songwriter) and Marc Bushala (founder of Angel’s Envy Bourbon), made in a church in Tennessee. This expression is made with a mash bill featuring 30% “small grains”, and the spirit is allowed to age for at least 8 years in American oak barrels. The bottle features a design from Dylan’s own wrought ironwork, and the name is of course a reference to his song ‘Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door’.
Heaven’s Door Double Barrel (70cl, 50%)
Glenfiddich Master’s Edition Sherry Cask Finish (70cl, 43%)
Glenfiddich’s Malt Master Brian Kinsman was the first to double-mature a Glenfiddich whisky in two different casks (although shorter finishing periods in more than one kind of casks has of course been done several times before). This whisky has been matured for some time in traditional oak casks before finishing its maturation in sherry casks.
