  • ( 0 Customer Review )

A 2010-vintage Venezuelan rum from Plantation that was first matured for eight years in ex-bourbon barrels in Destiloeria Sofa’s cellars. The barrels then made the sea voyage to Javrezac, in France’s Charente region, where the rum spent a further four years in Ferrand French oak casks. Aromas of nutmeg, honey, vanilla, mandarin, coconut, Brazil nuts, coffee and sweet flowers fill the nose, complemented by notes of spicy oak, peanuts, tobacco, almond, black pepper, creme brulee, pineapple, dried banana and hazelnut throughout the palate and lingering in the finish.

This 100% pot still Jamaican rum made with a blend of spirits from Long Pond and Clarendon distilleries, which Maison Ferrand now owns a third of after purchasing the West Indies Rum Distillery in 2017. Master blender Alexandre Gabriel created the Xaymaca (pronounced zay-muck-uh) brand, which is the original name for Jamaica that the indigenous Arawaks, who inhabited Jamaica well before Columbus set foot on the island in 1494, gave it. Xaymaca actually means ‘land of wood and water.’

Aged in Bourbon casks, then in Ferrand barrels, this old Barbadian rum owes its sophisticated aromatic complexity to the different species of wood used and their various degrees of toasting, as well as to different climates: tropical in Barbados and continental in France, where both dry and humid cellars are used.

From nose to mouth, it expresses a rich palate of chocolate and ripe banana, with fresh and delicious mango notes. Lastly, a remarkably long finish makes Plantation XO a true sipping rum.

A classic British Navy style rum, Pusser’s Gunpowder Proof rum has rich notes of treacle, toffee, honey and vanilla throughout the palate, alongside oak, cinnamon and ginger. Taking its name from the naval tradition of providing sailors a daily ration of rum, distributed by the Purser – or Pusser. The Pusser would dispel any complaints of watering down the rum by wetting a pinch of gunpowder with the rum and attempting to light it. If the mixture ignited it was “proof” that the rum was strong enough.

A sure-fire hit from Ableforth’s, Rumbullion! is a cockle-warming spiced concoction, based on the kind of rich, full-bodied rums the seafaring fraternity would have enjoyed centuries ago.

At the core of this fabulous winter warmer lies a blend of the very finest high proof Caribbean rum, to which was added creamy Madagascan vanilla and a generous helping of zesty orange peel. A secret recipe was followed, finished with a handful of cassia and cloves and just a hint of cardamom.

A spiced rum created by the famed tattoo artist ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins. This is perhaps our favourite spiced rum, makes an incredible spiced mojito! The recipe was recently changed, and made slightly less sweet, but spicier.

We know that some of you out there aren’t so keen on the new recipe. You can correct the flavour of the new version very easily by adding some dark sugar and vanilla essence to the bottle and giving it a good shake – it really does work!

Honeyed single estate rum from Venezuela with elements of bitter chocolate, nuts and buttery biscuits. It is made, unusually for a rum, through the solera process: casks of different aged rums are stacked vertically, the oldest (aged around 35 years) at the bottom, and as the distiller draws rum from one cask they top it up with younger liquid from the blend.

TDL Fernandes 17 Year Old That Boutique-y Rum Company (50cl, 66%)

A superb 17-year-old multi-column still rum from Trinidad Distillers Limited. Nowadays, rum in Trinidad is produced by one large-scale producer, but that wasn’t always the case. The story goes that the Fernandes brand was responsible for creating one of the most iconic bottlings of days gone by, from casks salvaged from a fire-damaged warehouse. Once the initial bottles ran out, the challenge of making more arose, so a number of different blending marques were used to recreate the correct profile. This right here is one of those blending marques, it’s a heavy-column rum that would likely have only been used in small amounts in the original blend, but here’s the opportunity to try it untouched, in all its long-aged glory, thanks to That Boutique-y Rum Company.

Batch 2 is a release of 330 bottles.
