Macallan vintage releases produced by Campbell, Hope & King tended to be aged around the 15 year old mark, but when Macallan took over the responsibility in 1980, they toyed for a few releases with more advanced age-statements of 17 and 18 years old. The latter was deemed the optimum maturation, and the official 18 year old was launched in 1984. It is now an absolute classic of the whisky world.This is the release of Macallan 18 Year Old that carried a vintage. In this case, the whiskies were distilled in 1996 and earlier years.
The famous Macallan 18 year old no longer carries the vintage that the spirit was originally distilled in. This is the final release carrying that year.

A beautiful, extremely limited edition Macallan released for travel retail, Oscuro is made with whisky from 1987 and 1997 and it’s sherried and incredibly rich.
This is the 2015 redesign of the packaging, now presented in the premium decanter style bottle first used for the Macallan Reflexion.
Dark, lusciously rich and satisfying. The Macallan Oscuro is drawn exclusively from oak casks seasoned with Oloroso Sherry. An exceptionally high proportion of these are first fill, which endow the whisky with a rich, deep Burnished copper colour and intense flavour. When the casks are at the peak of maturation, the whisky is gently reduced to 46.5% alcohol by volume with natural spring water drawn from boreholes deep under The Macallan Estate. It is then matured in slumbering casks for at least six months, allowing the flavours to blend. It undergoes no further strength reduction and is filtered non-chill at ambient room temperature before being bottled.

First released in 2013, the Dalmore 25 is matured initially in American white oak before a second maturation in a combination of Palomino Fino sherry butts and first fill bourbon casks. These are then married together in bourbon barrels before a finishing period in Tawny Port pipes.
In 2013 Dalmore extended their core range of stunning whiskies with the Dalmore 25 Year Old. As a distillery that has a history of using an intricate selection of maturing methods, the 25 Year Old continues that tradition. First, it matured in American white oak cask. After that, it was hand-divided into 25 year old Palomino Fino sherry butts and 1980s first-fill bourbon casks. These whiskies are then married together in bourbon barrels and finished in Tawny Port pipes from Portugal. ***
