ABSOLUT UNIQUE is a daring concept, even for a company as passionate about creativity as ABSOLUT,” says Jonas Tåhlin, Vice President Global Marketing at The Absolut Company. “Anyone could do one or two unique products. We’re making close to four million. For ABSOLUT UNIQUE, ABSOLUT had to re-engineer its entire production line. It required a complex interaction of human and mechanical elements, and a carefully orchestrated randomness, to achieve the desired end result. Splash guns and colour-generating machines were set up and complex coating, pattern and placement algorithms were programmed in to ensure that no two bottles would be alike. Thirty-five different colours were used, and fifty-one pattern types were applied to the bottles. A striking look was achieved by colour contrasts and a white, mat paper label that features each bottle’s unique number. The result was even better than anticipated. “ABSOLUT UNIQUE feels a bit ‘mad scientist,’ a bit street art,” says Jonas Tåhlin. “When the bottles first appeared on the conveyer belt, we cheered. By that point the production line looked more like an artist’s studio than a bottle factory. These are really striking bottles. Everyone will find a personal favourite.””A lot of world-class creators have made their interpretations of our iconic bottle. But this time ABSOLUT was the artist,” continues Tåhlin. “Our customers are all unique – so we wanted to give them each a one-of-a-kind bottle as individual as they are. We loved the concept. Making it happen was the hard part. Along the way we doubted whether this would be at all possible. Well, guess what? It is.

“ABSOLUT UNIQUE is a daring concept, even for a company as passionate about creativity as ABSOLUT,” says Jonas Tåhlin, Vice President Global Marketing at The Absolut Company. “Anyone could do one or two unique products. We’re making close to four million.”
Everyone will find a personal favourite.”
“A lot of world-class creators have made their interpretations of our iconic bottle. Absolut World is a strong statement and expression of a world without borders. A world united in peace, love and friendship.
For this limited edition bottle design we worked with Swedish Illustrator Kari Modén, best known for her decorative, colorful and joyous style. The design celebrates global unity and the values that unite people around the world: love, peace and togetherness.
To back the launch we created a new page on Absolut.com where travellers could upload a selfie and share tips on their favourite local hangouts. The data was then transformed into a mosaic of faces, names and locations and shared online creating a digital space that added to the celebration of togetherness and provided a directory of hip hangouts in towns and cities across the world.
People unite!
An interesting bourbon with a unique twist – after the initial maturation it takes a leaf out of Scotch Whisky’s book and spends between 3 and 6 months finishing in port barrels. The more experimentation the better, we reckon, especially when it turns out something like this – marrying the sweet caramel and grain of bourbon with the rich sticky wine flavours of a port cask.

Matured for a decade under the Caribbean sun, Bacardi Diez Gran Reserva is a rich, fruity rum with notes of peaches, plums, overripe banana, pear and caramelised vanilla.
A rather rare sight on these shores, Bacardi Reserva Limitada rum was originally only available from the distillery’s gift shop! It’s made with a blend of well-aged Puerto Rican rums, resulting in a splendidly rich, complex flavour profile. Big notes of fruit, vibrant vanilla and spice, complimented by oodles of oak-y elements…
Baker’s Bourbon is a small batch, Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey distilled and selected in the traditions of Baker Beam, grandnephew of the legendary Jim Beam. Today, Baker’s is still made using this very technique and is aged only in the most select rackhouses for a robust bourbon flavor with a silky, smooth finish. Carefully matured for exceptional quality, Baker’s Bourbon is distilled at a lower proof, then barreled and aged in small batches to allow the bourbon to extract more toasted nut, fruit, and vanilla flavor from the barrel wood. With an aroma of fruit, vanilla, and caramel and a finish that’s sweet, smooth, and medium-long, enjoy Baker’s neat, on the rocks, or in a Manhattan, an old fashioned, or in other bourbon-based cocktails.

A 70cl bottle of Ballantine’s popular 21 year old presented in a blue ceramic decanter. The Ballantine’s blends use up to fifty single malts and four grains, with Glenburgie and Miltonduff as the base malts.
“Ballantine’s 21 Year Old American Oak is the ultimate expression of American Oak cask influence. We use only rare and exquisite whiskies and nose each cask to ensure a balance between wood and whisky that results in a distinguished blend” said Ballantine’s Master Blender Sandy Hyslop.
An updated botting of this classic blended Scotch whisky, thoroughly indulgent and fabulously delicious. A high proportion of the whiskies in the recipe have been matured in European oak casks, giving a nutty, dried fruit influence. Ballantine’s is renowned for smoothness, and this expression is an impeccable example.
The 30 year old is a superb blend from Ballantines. It won a Gold at the International Spirits Challenge and Jim Murray gave it 92 points.
This is a collectible bottling of Balvenie Founder’s Reserve 10 Year Old single malt, presented in a bottle that looks more like a Cognac bottle than a whisky one. Interestingly, unlike previous bottlings we’ve had of this style, this one has been bottled at 43% ABV instead of 40% ABV.
This bottle was part of a private collection – if you’d like more detailed photos just get in touch!
A great 10 year old from Balvenie. Founder’s Reserve is Whisky Magazine Recommended, Michael Jackson suggests this might be the most “honeyish of Speyside malts”.

A creamy, sweet single malt, The Sweet Toast of American Oak is the first whisky in the Balvenie Stories collection. Finished in heavily-toasted virgin American oak casks from Kentucky, it is even fruitier than normal. Sweet, malty aromas of fudge, citrus and oaky vanilla mingle with spicy ginger and warm cinnamon on the nose. The palate initially offers notes of candied orange peel, vanilla toffee and butterscotch, developing slowly into flavours of melted brown sugar, blossom honey and rich oak spice.
The Balvenie Stories collection is designed to bring to life the tales of ‘character, endeavour and craft’ of those at Balvenie through the generations.

A 14 year old single malt from the Balvenie distillery, made using a batch of heavily roasted malt produced back in 1992. To give you an idea of how roasted the barley was, normally malted barley reaches around 30 European Brewing Colour units. The barley used for this release reached between 1600 to 1800 European Brewing Colour.
This 14-year-old heavily-peated single malt is the second whisky in the Balvenie Stories collection – a sweet and smoky whisky that balances earthy peat smoke with the distillery’s characteristic citrus edge. Gentle peat smoke, delicate flowers and sweet butterscotch fill the nose, while the palate initially offers notes of sharp citrus, blossom honey, creamy vanilla and rich, earthy peat.
The Balvenie Stories collection is designed to bring to life the tales of ‘character, endeavour and craft’ of those at Balvenie through the generations. The Week of Peat is inspired by the tradition, started in 2002, of distilling peated malt for only one week every year.
The Balvenie Madeira Cask is a lively and summery single malt finished in casks previously which previously held Madeira wine.
In historic times, ships set sail filled with casks of Madeira wine around the New World. Throughout their journey, casks were exposed to the heat of the sun, naturally sweetening the wine it held.
Malt Master David C. Stewart has enjoyed times exploring the Madeira region and wines they produce, inspiring his experimentation of the cask type for finishing.
This is not the first time David has used Madeira casks – previous expressions have been of older ages. This release has a lighter, livelier character.

This bottling was finished in virgin oak. A one off release from the Balvenie, replaced with the ‘New Oak’. This received a Gold at the 2006 International Spirits Challenge.
This cracking peated cask Balvenie was released in 2010. It was aged traditionally to begin with, before a finish in casks that previously held peated whisky. The result is well balanced and not overpowering. A success!
This Balvenie single malt was matured in a combination of heavily-peated whisky casks and new American oak barrels. It carries all the hallmark flavours that we’ve come to expect from this distillery, including honeycomb and nuts, accompanied by charred cinnamon, Nutella over warm toast and a delicious puff of smoke.

This Balvenie 17 year old Sherry Oak is part of the First Edition Release in 2007. Matured in Oloroso sherry casks in Warehouse 21, this is a rare sherried Balvenie expression.

The Balvenie Stories Week of Peat 17 Year Old (49.4% ABV) results from a patient and careful monitoring process to reach a perfect balance of peat and signature Balvenie flavour notes – unmistakable honey, citrus and notes of peak smoke. This is a limited-edition single malt Scotch whisky from The Balvenie Distillery, available in a 70cl bottle ready for gifting.
The Week Of Peat story begins with distillery manager Ian Millar’s eagle eye spotting a weeks gap in the distillery schedule. Eager to experiment with The Balvenie profile using what he had learnt from a recent trip to Islay, he ordered a batch of Speyside peat for the kiln and built a peat burner on the side “for, well, extra peatiness”. The whisky produced is rich in honey, vanilla and citrus notes with an extra layer of delicate smoke.
The Balvenie Distillery is built on age-old traditions and stories which are passed on from one generation of craftsmen to the next. The Balvenie Stories are a range of exclusive single malt whiskies, each representing tales of character, endeavour and craft.
A bottle of The Balvenie 17 Year Old The Week of Peat Single Malt Scotch Whisky, a heavily peated expression inspired by the whisky produced at the distillery in the late 1940s, 1950s and early 1960s. This was bottled at 49.4% ABV as Story No. 2 in The Balvenie Stories series.
A flat bottle of Balvenie Classic from the 1980s. This bottling states its age of 18 years on the wax seal at the base of the neck. This is one of the rarer versions of these very collectable Balvenies.
This bottle was part of a private collection – if you’d like more detailed photos just get in touch!

The Balvenie Pedro Ximenez Cask is a lively and summery single malt finished in casks which previously held Pedro Ximenez sherry.
PX is a white Spanish wine grape variety grown in several Spanish wine regions. The heat of the sun ripening the vines leads to a wine of intense sweetness, dessert like.

Sherry is a popular cask type in Scotch Whisky, this is the second sherry finished expression in The Balvenie range of finishes.
This 19-year-old single malt is part of Balvenie’s Stories range which champions the unsung heroes of the whisky world – the coopers. Exclusively matured in ex-oloroso casks this dram has aromas of orange peel, toasted pecan and fig on the nose, leading to stewed fruit, cherry and pecan on the palate.
Eager to experiment with The Balvenie profile using what he had learnt from a recent trip to Islay, distillery manager Ian Millar ordered a batch of Speyside peat for the kiln. For a week a year, The Balvenie distils a batch of peated malt, resulting in this richly smoky expression with notes of fresh citrus, creamy vanilla and Balvenie’s signature honeyed sweetness.

A 2021 release in the Balvenie Stories series, The Second Red Rose harks back to a release from the distillery’s history. The Balvenie Rose was finished in a Port pipes, resulting in a hue that was befitting of its name (which itself was an homage to what Margaret Douglas paid King James II as rent for staying in Balvenie Castle – a single red rose). For The Second Red Rose, the 21 year old single malt you see here, Balvenie’s malt master David C. Stewart chose to finish the expression in Australian Shiraz casks, imparting a whole host of ripe fruit notes, touches of blackberry and peach, a helping of rich oak, and of course, a rosy hue.
Released in late 2021, this is part of the Stories series from Balvenie. This particular whisky has been finished in ex-Shiraz red wine casks and is the 5th edition in the range which began in 2008.
