Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire & Cask Strength 10 Year Old (Batch 06) Whisky (70cl, 55.6%)
After batches one, and two, and three, and four, and five, it’s time for a sixth batch of the superbly delicious Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire & Cask Strength 10 Year Old! Hailing from an undisclosed Islay distillery, 25% of this single malt enjoyed a stay in sherry casks, imparting a satisfying sweetness to the robustly smoky, earthy whisky. Weighing in at 55.6% ABV, there’s plenty of added depth and intensity to be found in this full-bodied cask strength expression… you might like to punctuate with a dash of water or a cube of ice to open up all that flavour.
Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire & Cask Strength 18 Year Old (70cl, 54.6%)
A senior member of the Seaweed & Aeons family, this is a cask-strength edition of its heavily peated 18-year-old Highland single malt. Bottled at a hearty 54.6%, it’s a big, bold sipper. With a good portion matured in sherry casks, it boasts softly sweet notes of stone fruits and toasted nuts among vibrant layers of herbaceous coastal peat smoke, and dense, meaty malt.
Whether you’re a fan of the younger age statements in this range and looking to explore older whiskies, or you’re interested in cask strengths, this is one for you! Also, a fab find if you’re looking for a gift for a member of some kind of ampersand appreciation society.
Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire & Sherry Casks 10 Year Old (70cl, 40%)
Peat and sherry is a great combo, though sometimes it can be a bit like a shouting match between a foghorn and a washing machine full of pots and pans. Thankfully, this one shows off a welcome harmony between the two. It’s a marvellous variation of Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire, featuring the same smoky 10 year old Islay single malt, though instead of just 25% of it being finished in sherry casks, the entirety of the whisky was finished in them. The powerfully peaty notes at its core are mellowed by just enough sherry sweetness, making for a superbly well-balanced flavour profile.
Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire 10 Year Old (70cl, 40%)
This right here is a 10-year-old single malt from an undisclosed distillery on Islay, with 25% of it having been finished in first-fill oloroso sherry casks, and bestowed the decidedly descriptive name Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire. If those four words (and three ampersands) aren’t quite enough of an explanation of what this expression is all about, here are a few more: stripped-back, smoky, complex, a bit sherried, balanced, coastal. Yeah, that should do it. Great for people who love uncompromising Islay whisky and sans-serif fonts.

Strawberry & Balsamico Gin (That Boutique-y Gin Company) (70cl, 46%)

That Boutique-y Gin Company clearly agree and have proffered their own way to put the flavour combo in front of everybody’s eyes – by making Strawberry & Balsamico Gin! They have used a classically-styled base gin and given it the addition of fresh strawberries, strawberry and black pepper distillates and Aceto di Balsamico tradizionale di Modena DOP, which is aged between 12 and 25 years in casks made from chestnut, cherry, oak, mulberry, ash and juniper.

Talisker 57° North (70cl, 57%)
A distillery-bottled cask strength Talisker, 57° North is deceptively smooth for a whisky at this strength, but still a muscular presence on the palate, with the pepper and chilli Talisker hallmarks very much in evidence. A marvellously citrus-forward London dry gin from That Boutique-y Gin Company, featuring the delicious yuzu fruit! Cultivated widely in Japan and Korea, the yuzu looks a bit like a grapefruit (though they’re a bit more bumpy) and tastes a bit like a cross between the aforementioned grapefruit and a lemon, with a floral touch of orange blossom too.
