Southwestern Distillery produce small batches of their artisan Tarquin’s Gin using their flame-fired copper pot still called Tamara, goddess of the Tamar. It’s then bottled by hand and sent off into the world, to spread the news that Cornwall is producing some fabulous gin.

Talisker Skye Gift Pack (70cl, 45.8%)

Talisker Skye was introduced in early 2015, named after the beautiful island on which the distillery resides. This expression brings with it a more well-rounded and sweet flavour profile packed with fresh citrus, sweet smoke, peppery spice and traditional Talisker maritime notes. It’s matured in a combination of refill and toasted American oak casks, with a slightly higher proportion of toasted casks. Perfect for those who perhaps find the classic Talisker flavour profile a bit too much, not to say that Talisker fans won’t enjoy it too.

An easy-drinking Talisker, taking the distillery’s classically rugged character and softening it out, while maintaining the smoky and sweet notes the distillery is known for. More approachable, but still definitely Talisker.

A distillery-bottled cask strength Talisker, 57° North is deceptively smooth for a whisky at this strength, but still a muscular presence on the palate, with the pepper and chilli Talisker hallmarks very much in evidence. Picked up the top prize in its category (Best Island No Age) at the World Whisky Awards 2012.

Strawberry & Balsamico Gin (That Boutique-y Gin Company) (70cl, 46%)

It’s not a flavour combination that jumps to mind right away, but strawberries and balsamic vinegar is an absolutely astounding pairing that we don’t think gets nearly enough love. That Boutique-y Gin Company clearly agree and have proffered their own way to put the flavour combo in front of everybody’s eyes – by making Strawberry & Balsamico Gin! They have used a classically-styled base gin and given it the addition of fresh strawberries, strawberry and black pepper distillates and Aceto di Balsamico tradizionale di Modena DOP, which is aged between 12 and 25 years in casks made from chestnut, cherry, oak, mulberry, ash and juniper.

Spit-Roasted Pineapple Gin (That Boutique-y Gin Company) (70cl, 46%)

Roasted Pineapple Gin Bottling Note

We present you with a quandary. You wish to enjoy the fantastic combination of pineapple and gin, but you don’t fancy hacking away at a pineapple and sticking a fistful of pineapple chunks into your glass (which is understandable, as pineapples are notoriously cumbersome and pointy). What to do? That Boutique-y Gin Company presents you with a solution to this quandary – Spit-Roasted Pineapple Gin!

A commonplace tipple of the ’20s, pineapple gin fell off the map and was lost to time for a while. That Boutique-y Gin Company have rescued it from that fate and given it a 21st century twist. Whole pineapples are roasted on a spit with Demerara sugar until they’re gloriously caramelised, and they’re then combined with a particularly bold gin, helping to cut through the sweet, toasty pineapple. Serve over ice, or with some Ting if you can get your hands on it.

Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire 10 Year Old (70cl, 40%)

  • ( 0 Customer Review )

This right here is a 10-year-old single malt from an undisclosed distillery on Islay, with 25% of it having been finished in first-fill oloroso sherry casks, and bestowed the decidedly descriptive name Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire. If those four words (and three ampersands) aren’t quite enough of an explanation of what this expression is all about, here are a few more: stripped-back, smoky, complex, a bit sherried, balanced, coastal. Yeah, that should do it. Great for people who love uncompromising Islay whisky and sans-serif fonts.

Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire & Sherry Casks 10 Year Old (70cl, 40%)

Peat and sherry is a great combo, though sometimes it can be a bit like a shouting match between a foghorn and a washing machine full of pots and pans. Thankfully, this one shows off a welcome harmony between the two. It’s a marvellous variation of Seaweed & Aeons & Digging & Fire, featuring the same smoky 10 year old Islay single malt, though instead of just 25% of it being finished in sherry casks, the entirety of the whisky was finished in them. The powerfully peaty notes at its core are mellowed by just enough sherry sweetness, making for a superbly well-balanced flavour profile.
