Islay Mist was originally created in 1927 at Laphroaig distillery by Ian Hunter. In fact, it was specifically requested by Hugh Morrison of Islay House to celebrate his son’s 21st birthday. As the final choice was made at the warehouse tasting, Morrison picked one, saying: ‘That will put them all in a bit of a fog, Ian.’ Hunter’s now iconic response to this was: ‘Not a fog… more like an Islay mist!’

Some say it was the first blended Scotch with Laphroaig as its foundation, though it certainly was one of the first peaty blends. The brand was eventually acquired by MacDuff International in 1992.

A very good value, Islay based blend which is said to be chock full of Laphroaig. A great gift for someone who loves smoke, particularly as the price of smoky single malts keeps rising.

Islay Mist was created on Islay in the 1920s using whisky from the Laphroaig Distillery as well as choice Speyside distilleries. Initially blended for the 21st birthday celebration of the son and heir of the then Lord Sargadale, this gold-medal winning whisky still carries the seal of the Lord of the Isles.
Staying true to the founding recipe, Islay Mist remains the original peated blend with characteristic balanced smoky and peaty tones between layers of mellow oaky maltiness.
