Jameson Irish Whiskey (4.5L, 40%)
Triple distilled, twice as smooth, one of a kind.
Jameson Irish Whiskey is a blended Irish whiskey. What’s that we hear you say. Well first we take the best of pot still and fine grain whiskeys. Then we triple distil them – not because we have to because we want to as it gives it its signature smoothness. Finally, we age them in oak casks for a minimum of 4 years.

Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition (70cl, 40%)
Irish Whiskey, craft beer barrels.
Like all the best conversations, the one between Jameson’s Head of Whiskey Science and the Head Brewer of a local craft beer brewery, started at the bar. A swapping of whiskey and beer barrels soon after, resulted in Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition – triple-distilled, blended Irish Whiskey that has been patiently finished in Irish craft beer-seasoned barrels.
Jameson Caskmates IPA Edition (70cl, 40%)
The Jameson Caskmates series continues with the IPA Edition! As with the Stout Edition, Jameson sent its used whiskey casks over the Franciscan Well brewery, where they were used to aged some IPA beer. After that, the casks made their way back to the distillery, were they were used to finish this enjoyable Irish whiskey.

Jameson 18 Year Old (70cl, 46%)
18 year old whiskey from the world-famous Jameson, built around a blend of two pot-still whiskeys alongside a portion of single grain whiskey. It’s initially aged in ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks, then moved over to first-fill ex-bourbon barrels for a finishing period before bottling.
Irish Reserve 26 Year Old (70cl, 40%)
A 26 Year Old Irish single malt whiskey specially produced for Aldi.
Another day, another long-aged Aldi single malt. An Irish whiskey this time, and once again I’ve elbowed my way past the natural Malt correspondent to chip in with my tuppence worth first.
26years, in Irish whiskey terms, is ages. A quick scroll through any of the obvious channels will yield hundreds of scotch whiskies of that age or older, but properly mature Irish is much thinner on the ground.
It’s brilliant to see Aldi move beyond Scotland when putting together their rare whisk(e)y offering for this year. Makes one hope that their gaze might turn upon the USA – or even Canada – in 2018.

Green Spot Single Pot Still (70cl, 40%)
Green Spot is a fabulous single pot still whiskey and much loved by the critics. This Irish whiskey has come far from the days when it was only sold in Mitchell’s grocer shop in the heart of Dublin, though its flavour profile is still just as robust. The whiskey has matured in a combination of first and second fill bourbon casks as well as sherry casks.
Green Spot Château Montelena (70cl, 46%)
A delicious edition of Green Spot Irish single pot still whiskey which has been finished in casks that previously held Zinfandel wine from Chateau Montelena in Napa Valley, California. It’s the second in ‘Wine Geese’ series, all of which feature whiskey finished in casks from wineries run by Irish winemakers around the world – the family currently running Chateau Montelena was originally from Waterford!
Green Spot Château Léoville Barton (70cl, 46%)
The first ever single pot still Irish whiskey finished in Bordeaux casks! The choice of Bordeaux wine is also significant – Ch. Léoville Barton is not only a highly-regarded grand cru Château, but one that takes it’s name from the Irish ‘Wine Geese’ winemaker Thomas Barton. In fact, Léoville Barton is still run by his descendants to this day. This bottling is a celebration of shared Irish heritage.
Matured initially in a mixture of ex-Oloroso Sherry, fresh American oak and ex-bourbon barrels, this Green Spot whiskey is then finished in the ex-Château Léoville Barton Bordeaux wine casks for 12 to 24 months.
Flaming Pig Black Cask (70cl, 40%)
Flaming Pig Black Cask is a blend of Irish single malt and single grain whiskey which has enjoyed a finishing period in intensely charred first-fill bourbon casks. This heavy charring helps to develop a subtle smokiness, while keep the rich, caramelised sweetness to the fore.
