Highlighting the meeting of Dutch and Indonesian flavours in the spirit, Bobby’s Schiedam Dry Gin comes in a bottle which harks back to the style of vessel used to hold jenever, with a pattern inspired by Indonesian designs.

Southwestern Distillery produce small batches of their artisan Tarquin’s Gin using their flame-fired copper pot still called Tamara, goddess of the Tamar. It’s then bottled by hand and sent off into the world, to spread the news that Cornwall is producing some fabulous gin.

Pickering’s Gin is distilled in Edinburgh using a recipe found on a piece of paper which was written in 1947. After finely-tuning the ingredients, featuring botanicals like Juniper, Lemon, Lime, Coriander, Anise, Angelica, Cardamom, Clove and Fennel, the folks at the Summerhall Distillery started putting together their refreshing gin using a 500-litre copper still, charmingly named Gert.

Hendrick’s Orbium is what’s known as a quininated gin, as it was distilled with additional extracts of quinine, wormwood and blue lotus blossom. Created by the legendary master distiller, Lesley Gracie, Orbium contains the same base distillates as Hendrick’s and is made in batches of just 500 litres.
The name Orbium derives from the word ‘orb’, the plural of Orbis and Latin for circle. Gracie felt this circular symbol represented the gin’s rounded character, and the ‘all seeing eye’ on the bottle design mirrors this theme.

A reformer who questioned the divine right of kings and fought for religious freedoms, for example, he was controversial thinker in his time. His Belgian descendants would go on to found the Ponet distillery, in Hasselt 1763 and now in the 21st century Thierry Ponet is reviving the spirit of both.
