A small-batch-distilled gin from the Isle of Mull-based distillery Tobermory, who is better known for creating Scotch whisky. It features local botanicals including elderflower, tea and wild heather, and a dash of Tobermory new-make spirit, which is used more as another botanical rather than the full base. Initially made in a 60-litre still named Wee Mary, Tobermory Gin has a larger dedicated gin still in a stillhouse separate from the existing whisky-producing space.

Created at the Bruichladdich distillery, this superb Islay gin was distilled in the ‘ugly betty’ still described as “an oversized upside-down dustbin made of copper” by Tom Morton. Perhaps the best looking packaging we’ve ever seen for a gin – it’s not all style and no substance either. This is a world-class gin, at a proper ABV.
A huge 31 botanicals go into The Botanist, including some native to Islay. Southwestern Distillery produce small batches of their artisan Tarquin’s Gin using their flame-fired copper pot still called Tamara, goddess of the Tamar. It’s then bottled by hand and sent off into the world, to spread the news that Cornwall is producing some fabulous gin.
