The Botanist Islay Dry Gin (1L, 46%)
Created at the Bruichladdich distillery, this superb Islay gin was distilled in the ‘ugly betty’ still described as “an oversized upside-down dustbin made of copper” by Tom Morton. Perhaps the best looking packaging we’ve ever seen for a gin – it’s not all style and no substance either. This is a world-class gin, at a proper ABV.
A huge 31 botanicals go into The Botanist, including some native to Islay. The full list of botanicals is as follows: angelica root, apple mint, birch leaves, bog myrtle leaves, cassia bark, chamomile, cinnamon bark, coriander seed, creeping thistle flowers, elder flowers, gorse flowers, heather flowers, hawthorn flowers, juniper berries, lady’s bedstraw flowers, lemon balm, lemon peel, liquorice root, meadow sweet, orange peel, oris root, peppermint leaves, mugwort leaves, red clover flowers, tansy, thyme leaves, water mint leaves, white clover, wood sage leaves. Tarquin’s Handcrafted Cornish Gin (70cl, 42%)
An exotic, world spanning botanical basket makes Tarquin’s Gin. Orris root from Morocco, green cardamom seeds from Guatemala, cinnamon from Madagascar and Devon violets from… Well, from the distiller’s garden in Cornwall.
Southwestern Distillery produce small batches of their artisan Tarquin’s Gin using their flame-fired copper pot still called Tamara, goddess of the Tamar. It’s then bottled by hand and sent off into the world, to spread the news that Cornwall is producing some fabulous gin.

It’s a 70cl bottling of Tanqueray No. 10! The expression was launched in 2000 and is made with whole fresh citrus fruits. Presented in a classic green bottle that looks like it stepped straight out of the roaring ‘20s, this citrus-forward gin is perfect for classic cocktails.
Tanqueray Malacca Gin (1L, 40%)
Officially re-launched in the beginning of 2013, Tanqueray’s limited edition Malacca is a sweet, spicy gin with increased levels of citrus. This is not dissimilar to some of the old-fashioned styles of Old Tom gin, and it works very well in cocktails.

Back in the 1860s, Tanqueray creator Charles Tanqueray visited the orange groves of Spain and eventually produced a gin recipe based around the glory of Seville oranges. In early 2018, they released Tanqueray Sevilla Gin, inspired by the recipe written over 140 years ago! If you like your gin to be citrus-focussed and generally excellent, you’re in for a sun-soaked treat.

Strawberry & Balsamico Gin (That Boutique-y Gin Company) (70cl, 46%)
It’s not a flavour combination that jumps to mind right away, but strawberries and balsamic vinegar is an absolutely astounding pairing that we don’t think gets nearly enough love. That Boutique-y Gin Company clearly agree and have proffered their own way to put the flavour combo in front of everybody’s eyes – by making Strawberry & Balsamico Gin! They have used a classically-styled base gin and given it the addition of fresh strawberries, strawberry and black pepper distillates and Aceto di Balsamico tradizionale di Modena DOP, which is aged between 12 and 25 years in casks made from chestnut, cherry, oak, mulberry, ash and juniper.
Soli London Dry Gin 42%
Soli London Dry Gin is distilled from 11 botanicals with juniper and coriander, citrus peels: grapefruit, lemon, sweet and bitter orange, some floral: chamomile, jasmine and orris root, and also cubeb berries.
The botanicals are added to the still with potable water and grain spirit distilled from wheat at 96%. Then closed and heat applied to bring the alcohol to boiling point.
The distillate is collected and subsequently adjusted with potable water to 42%.
Soli London Dry Gin at 42% is delicate and smooth, with a strong citrus aroma and fresh floral notes with a hint of pepper at the end.

Produced in the workshop previously used by the late, great Michael Jackson (whisky writer, not Moonwalker), this super-small-batch artisinal Gin is flavoured with restraint, making it easier for the natural quality of the spirit to shine through. Distilled in a marvellously compact pot still / column still combo. named Prudence, Sipsmith epitomises distilling on a truly artisinal scale. At the time of her installation, Prudence was the first copper pot still to be brought to life in London for over 200 years.
Silent Pool Gin (1L, 43%)
Silent Pool Gin is produced on the Albury Estate in the Surrey Hills, right next to the Silent Pool, a beautiful, mysterious spring-fed lake – what a place to create a gin! The gin itself features 24 botanicals, including kaffir lime, chamomile, local honey and lavender, among others, resulting in a subtly sweet though intricately-balanced tipple.
Roku Gin (70cl, 43%)
The first gin from Japan’s legendary Suntory – Roku Gin. This expression is made using a selection of botanicals, including six Japanese botanicals that provide a whistle-stop tour of the four seasons. These include sakura leaf and sakura flower for spring, sencha tea and gyokuro tea for summer, sansho pepper for autumn and yuzu peel for winter. Traditional gin botanicals also featured include the likes of juniper, orange peel, lemon peel, coriander and cinnamon, among others.
Pink 47 Gin (70cl, 47%)
Pink 47 is a fine London Dry gin made from Italian juniper berries. It includes some exotic botanicals too with two different types of angelica and two different corianders. Lavish. There’s also Spanish citrus fruits and almonds and a touch of West African nutmeg, packaged in a handsome cut-glass bottle modelled on the Kharavaya pink diamond.
Pickering’s Gin (70cl, 42%)
Pickering’s Gin is distilled in Edinburgh using a recipe found on a piece of paper which was written in 1947. After finely-tuning the ingredients, featuring botanicals like Juniper, Lemon, Lime, Coriander, Anise, Angelica, Cardamom, Clove and Fennel, the folks at the Summerhall Distillery started putting together their refreshing gin using a 500-litre copper still, charmingly named Gert.
Opihr Oriental Spiced Gin (1L, 40%)
A London Dry Gin made with botanicals from along the traditional spice route that led back to the UK. Indonesian Cubeb berries, Indian black pepper and Moroccan coriander are all used in this gin, launched by Quintessential Brands in 2013.
Omg Oh My Gin 50cl, 45%
Omg is the creation of Martin Žufánek, of the Žufánek family distillery. He made the move from producing absinthe to gin, though he transferred his herb knowledge to the new spirit, and Omg contains 16 botanicals! The most unusual of these are grains of paradise, lavender flower, and blossoms from the Czech national tree. A top quality, no-nonsense gin right here.

An impressive-looking premium gin from famous wine and spirits merchants Berry Bros & Rudd, No. 3 London Dry is distilled in copper pot stills at De Kuyper in the Netherlands, counts cardamom seeds and grapefruit peel among its botanicals, and has been bottled at an invigorating 46%.
nginious! Swiss Blended Gin (50cl, 45%)
nginious! is a Swiss gin created by Oliver Ullrich and Ralph Villager, made with a selection of 18 botanicals that have been placed into four groups, which have been distilled and blended together to produce the final spirit. The herbs chosen for nginious! are native to Switzerland and include clover blossom, blackcurrant leaves, bee balm and more. Beautifully presented, too.
