The Botanist Islay Dry Gin (1L, 46%)

  • ( 0 Customer Review )

Created at the Bruichladdich distillery, this superb Islay gin was distilled in the ‘ugly betty’ still described as “an oversized upside-down dustbin made of copper” by Tom Morton. Perhaps the best looking packaging we’ve ever seen for a gin – it’s not all style and no substance either. This is a world-class gin, at a proper ABV.

A huge 31 botanicals go into The Botanist, including some native to Islay. The full list of botanicals is as follows: angelica root, apple mint, birch leaves, bog myrtle leaves, cassia bark, chamomile, cinnamon bark, coriander seed, creeping thistle flowers, elder flowers, gorse flowers, heather flowers, hawthorn flowers, juniper berries, lady’s bedstraw flowers, lemon balm, lemon peel, liquorice root, meadow sweet, orange peel, oris root, peppermint leaves, mugwort leaves, red clover flowers, tansy, thyme leaves, water mint leaves, white clover, wood sage leaves. Roasted Pineapple Gin Bottling Note

We present you with a quandary. You wish to enjoy the fantastic combination of pineapple and gin, but you don’t fancy hacking away at a pineapple and sticking a fistful of pineapple chunks into your glass (which is understandable, as pineapples are notoriously cumbersome and pointy). What to do? That Boutique-y Gin Company presents you with a solution to this quandary – Spit-Roasted Pineapple Gin!

A commonplace tipple of the ’20s, pineapple gin fell off the map and was lost to time for a while. That Boutique-y Gin Company have rescued it from that fate and given it a 21st century twist. Whole pineapples are roasted on a spit with Demerara sugar until they’re gloriously caramelised, and they’re then combined with a particularly bold gin, helping to cut through the sweet, toasty pineapple. Serve over ice, or with some Ting if you can get your hands on it.
