The Famous Grouse Malt Whisky Aged 21 Years was discontinued in 2007 because it was so expensive to make! Now it has become a prized collectors item both for the quality of the Malt Whisky, it’s packaging and of course its rarity. Absolute luxurious gift box with royal purple silk lining. Pssst there is a lot of Macallan 21 Year Old in the bottle…

The Famous Grouse Blended Malt Scotch Whisky 21 Years Old is created from the finest Single Malt whiskies in the World, including the Macallan 21 Year Old ($400 per bottle) and Highland Park 21 Year Old ($200 per bottle). Each of these individual Single Malts have been left undisturbed in sherry casks for a minimum of 21 years. Only then are they lovingly brought together and married in cask, allowing the whiskies extra time to blend together to create the exceptionally smooth and rounded character of the Famous Grouse 21. Sadly this much loved 21 Year Old Malt Whisky was discontinued in the early 2000’s and is now a much sought after rarity that appreciates in value each year. Gift boxed in a plush purple box will purple silk lining and brass fittings.

Compass Box Stranger & Stranger (70cl, 46%)

In stock
  • ( 0 Customer Review )

A very interesting spirit produced by Compass Box in honour of their long term collaborators, design company Stranger and Stranger.

This bottling is technically not a whisky, as it contains 1% “sacrificial spirit”: wheat and barley distillate from Girvan distillery that had been used to season experimental new American oak barrels for a year, before a brief period in refill hogsheads. As it is under 3 years old, it cannot be considered a whisky. Compass Box state that the spirit had an intensely woody character with plenty of vanilla flavour.

The remaining 99% of the blend is taken from Glenlossie, Glen Elgin and Linkwood, with the whisky aged between 17 and 22 years old. Glenlossie provides 80%, drawn from a re-charred Hogshead. 14% is taken from re-charred barrels from Glen Elgin, whilst Linkwood provides just 5%, from a sherry butt.

The whisky is fruity and floral, with powerful notes of honeysuckle, orange blossom, alongside juicy citrus and apples, with some slight cut grass, a hint of mint, burnt sugar, vanilla custard, a touch of sweet wine and sultana, with a faint bright oak sweetness.

Bottled at 46% ABV, and without out chill filtration or colouration, this blend enjoys a full body.

The label is based upon Stranger & Stranger’s logo, altered with their trademark creativity.

Less than 5,000 bottles were released.

Mackinlay’s Shackleton Rare Old Highland Malt The Journey (70cl, 47.3%)

  • ( 0 Customer Review )

The 2007 discovery of whisky left in Antarctica by Sir Ernest Shackleton during his famous expedition in the early 1900s led to Richard ‘The Nose’ Paterson using all his skill and experience to recreate this historic whisky, raising £250,000 for the Antarctic Heritage Trust in the process.

Approached by the charity and Alexandra Shackleton (Ernest’s grand-daughter) to produce a second edition of his blended malt to coincide with Tim Jarvis’ Shackleton Epic (the first authentic re-enactment of Shackleton’s extraordinary Antarctic survival journey of 1916), how could Paterson refuse?

Digging out another rare cask of Glen Mhor (an even older one, this time from 1980), as well as some heavily-peated Dalmore(!), he once again recreated the Shackleton whisky, also using malts from Glenfarclas, Mannochmore, Tamnavulin, Ben Nevis, Aultmore, Fettercairn, Pulteney and Jura.

The resulting masterpiece of blending offers something different, whilst clearly coming from the same lineage as his first lovingly recreated malt. A new and critically-acclaimed interpretation of a truly classic whisky.
