This is the classic unpeated Balvenie aged in American oak before finishing in French Pineau casks. Pineau des Charentes is a speciality of the Cognac region, a blend of unfermented grape juice and brandy aged in oak to produce a popular sweet digestif. It works beautifully with The Balvenie’s sweet, fruity profile.

Another addition to the exclusive Balvenie Stories range which showcases the rich history of the distillery. This unusual single malt was the first batch distilled with unpeated barley following the annual ‘peat week’ when smoky whisk is made so it has picked up a subtle smoky flavour. It was then aged for 14 years in first-fill bourbon casks and bottled at 47% to produce a unique Balvenie.

Behold, the seventh batch of Balvenie Tun 1509! A hugely popular series of expressions from the distillery, named after the tun in which the whisky is married for three months before bottling up. This particular edition was made using whisky drawn from 21 hand-picked casks, including ten sherry butts, seven sherry hogsheads and four American oak barrels. Following its marrying period, it was bottled up at 52.4% ABV.

For this one, the lucky casks selected to be married together were ten bourbon barrels, eight sherry hogsheads, three refill American oak casks and eight sherry butts.

After nine batches of their very popular Tun 1401 series, Balvenie decided a bigger marrying tun was needed. Tun 1509 holds four times as much liquid – ample room to marry their whisky together. This is the first batch of Balvenie’s Tun 1509 single malt Scotch whisky, which is comprised of seven European oak Sherry butts and thirty-five American oak barrels, allowed to marry together for several months.

For this great Balvenie single malt, only 21 year old Bourbon barrels from American oak were used by Malt Master David Stewart from the rare reserve stocks of the distillery, which then received a finish in 30-40 year old Port casks and port pipes. A rich and complex Balvenie Highland single malt scocth whisky with a spicy finish in exceptional quality, the coronation of the popular Balvenie Portwood series and rarely available in this special non chill-filtered expression.

Unveiled in 2014, the 15 Year Old Single Barrel Sherry Cask is a wonderful sight from Balvenie – single malt Scotch whisky fully matured in Sherry casks. These are released in batches of no larger than 650 bottles from a single cask, each one being hand numbered. Although no two casks are the same, and therefore won’t produce an identical single malt, the casks are carefully selected by Balvenie’s Malt Master and feature a consistent, rich, spiced character, complimented by hints of elegant oak.

The Balvenie Madeira Cask is a lively and summery single malt finished in casks previously which previously held Madeira wine.
In historic times, ships set sail filled with casks of Madeira wine around the New World. Throughout their journey, casks were exposed to the heat of the sun, naturally sweetening the wine it held.
Malt Master David C. Stewart has enjoyed times exploring the Madeira region and wines they produce, inspiring his experimentation of the cask type for finishing.
This is not the first time David has used Madeira casks – previous expressions have been of older ages. This release has a lighter, livelier character.
