An exceptionally rich, fruity expression of the Edradour distillery character – this long-aged Highlander was initially matured in ex-Bourbon hogsheads then racked into Bordeaux wine casks for a further eight years. It’s a full-bodied dram with intense notes of burnt orange, barley sugars and rosewater. A real treat for any fan of wine cask finished malt.
A 1999 Edradour single malt that was initially matured in ex-bourbon hogsheads for 13 years, before being recasked into a pair of ex-Barolo wine hogsheads and bottled in August 2021 at 22-years-old. Aromas of redcurrant jelly and maple syrup fill the nose, complemented by notes of cranberries, cinnamon-baked apples, cloves and sugared almonds throughout the palate.
The second whisky in the Balblair Collection, Balblair 15 Year Old is a full-bodied, velvety single malt that has been matured in ex-bourbon casks and finished in first-fill Spanish oak butts. This creates a rich, sweet whisky with spicy aromas of honey, gingerbread and prunes. The palate is velvety-smooth and full of dark chocolate, tropical fruit and warm spice notes.
The Balvenie 25 Year Old Single Barrel Traditional Oak, was introduced to the Balvenie single malt Scotch whisky range in 2014. Released in batches, each bottle is one of no more than 300, drawn from a single cask, all of which are refill American oak casks. There will be slight variations between batches, but the casks selected by Malt Master David Stewart for this release are chosen for having the richly spiced, sweetly honeyed character you’d expect from 25 year old Balvenie single malt aged in American oak. This means there is an overarching consistency between batches.

We all know how well Balvenie’s whisky does in a rum cask, and these rare barrels found their way to the distillery thanks to a meeting between its head distiller David Stewart and John Barrett of legendary rum bottler, Bristol Spirits. What a serendipitous meeting that was, celebrated in the form of this magnificent whisky.

This bottle was created to mirror the style of Macallan from the 1930s, which is described as being of ‘intriguing depth’ and with a subtle hint of peat.
Part of a series launched for the Travel Retail market by Macallan in the late 1990s/early 2000s, this expression was created to reflect the flavours of their whiskies produced in the 1940s. A creamier, more bourbon-cask-influenced Macallan than the heavily-Sherried Macallan you’ll likely be familiar with, and with a particularly pronounced peaty hint.

Edradour is one of Scotland’s smallest distilleries and at the heart of the range, this 10 year old Eastern Highlander is a rather unique single malt, a decidedly rum-like dram with a thick mouthfeel. The distillery’s methods of production remain virtually unchanged in the last 150 years, and we can see why. If it ain’t broke and all that. This single malt’s decade of ageing was spent in a combination of Oloroso sherry and bourbon casks. This is one sherry monster and we love it.

The Macallan Double Cask 18 Years Old, a perfectly balanced single malt whisky matured for 18 years in both American and European sherry seasoned oak casks. Sherry seasoned American oak adds delicate vanilla to the subtle spice of European oak, delivering a whisky with a sweeter, warmer taste and character.
An independently bottled 7 year old Auchroisk single malt, released as part of the Parkmore Selection (based in the Coleburn warehouse – wonderful stuff to hear for those of us who love hearing about closed distilleries not just being left to rot or getting smashed into pieces). It was initially aged in bourbon casks before enjoying a finishing period in casks that previously held Madeira wine.

A rare second release of this Limited Edition, Arran The High Seas Smugglers Series Volume 2 Single Malt Whisky.
Bottled at natural Cask Strength in 2016 and a Limited Edition of 8700 bottles, Arran pay homage with “The High Seas” to the resiliant character of those who outwitted the Officers of Excise in their pursuit of the famed Arran “waters”.
A very cool nod to the shady history of Arran’s distilling. Back during the 18th and 19th century the island was a producer of illicit whisky. Presented in a book style package to hide the goods.
This is the 2016 and second release in the highly acclaimed Arran Smugglers’ Series, which also included The Illicit Still and The Exciseman, released in the years prior and subsequent to this. The series was a nod to the shady history of Arran’s distilling back during the 18th and 19th century when the island was a producer of illicit whisky. Distilled in 2001, this 19-year-old Singleton of Glendullan single malt was initially matured in refill American oak casks and finished in ex-Cognac casks before being bottled as part of Diageo’s 2021 Special Releases. Aromas of dried fruit – figs and apricots – orange peel, fruitcake, vanilla marzipan and butter fill the nose. The palate offers notes of dry oak, green apples, grapes and coconut, with ginger, beeswax and a hint of smoke lingering in the finish.

A high-ABV variation on the classic Smokehead Islay single malt, Smokehead High Voltage is described as an “all-out attack” on your senses by its producer. Which, y’know, sounds pretty intense. If you’re a fan of heavily-peated whisky, you’re in for a treat.
Also, yes, it was incredibly hard to resist making an Electric Six reference when writing this bottling note.
Released in 2013, Sigurd is part of The Warrior Series, a collection of single malts created for Duty-Free to both introduce a key figure from Orkney’s Viking history and to demonstrate the impact of cask type on our whisky’s flavour, which is immense.
The single malt is named after one of the most feared Viking earls in the Orkneyinga Saga. The symbol is a sword of Sigurd which he inherited from his dead father. The Sigurd whisky comes in a beautiful wooden box and as soon as the whisky is in your glass, you imagine yourself in the middle of this saga!
Sigurd was one of the most feared Viking warriors considered to be strong, courageous and in possession of a warriors instinct as razor sharp as the sword he carried by his side.
The Warrior Series is a collection of single malts created exclusively for Duty Free to showcase the very best of Highland Park. Each expression both introduces a key figure from Orkney’s Viking history and demonstrates how the flavours of Highland Park are influenced by cask type.

In 2013 Dalmore extended their core range of stunning whiskies with the Dalmore 25 Year Old. As a distillery that has a history of using an intricate selection of maturing methods, the 25 Year Old continues that tradition. First, it matured in American white oak cask. After that, it was hand-divided into 25 year old Palomino Fino sherry butts and 1980s first-fill bourbon casks. To create the first limited edition whisky in a new annual release series, The Macallan Whisky Maker Polly Logan embarked on a unique journey to Girona, Spain, where she immersed herself in the world of chocolate, exploring the chocolate-making process and uncovering the distinctive flavour profiles at Casa Cacao.
Polly worked with Jordi Roca, owner of the famed chocolate boutique and hotel, Casa Cacao and the youngest of the acclaimed Roca brothers. As part of the exploration, she also spent time with master chocolatier of Casa Cacao, Damien Allsop.
In homage to its chocolate influence, The Macallan Harmony Collection Rich Cacao is presented in a 100% recyclable gift box, made using discarded husks from cacao pods.
A by-product in the chocolate-making process, these husks would have been sent to landfill or destroyed but have now been reborn with a renewed purpose.

An old bottling of 18 year old whisky from Glenmorangie. We estimate this was bottled in the 1990s, a decade which saw the onsite maltings close and the number of stills at four (it was two until 1980 and increased to eight in 1990).
Macallan 1841 Replica
Released in 2002, this replica bottling was created to mimic a bottle of Macallan purportedly produced in 1861. It is one of four releases that also include replicas of bottles from 1841, 1874 and 1876.
The purpose of this series was to re-create the four antique expressions of Macallan in terms of bottle and label design, as well as to be an accurate re-creation of the whisky’s nose and flavour. Several years after these replicas were released, it transpired that many of these bottles (which were purchased by Macallan) turned out to be fake. This release was one of those.
Despite this controversy, the collectability of these releases has only increased.
The 1841 was the third in a series of controversial replica bottlings of Macallan from the distillery. Whatever the provenance of the bottles that were replicated, the whisky is meant to be tremendous (the late great Michael Jackson gave this a 95 point score), ensuring that this is one of the most popular of these famous (notorious?) bottlings.

The Macallan Decades consists of four whiskies that were created to recreate the style of single malt produced as the distillery in the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. Thankfully their reference material for these was more reliable than the 19th century examples used to create their infamous Replica series.
One of four bottles released by the Macallan which depicts the style of The Macallan from the 1920’s to 1950’s. Each release has an illustration with of-the-era artwork featuring classic modes of transport from each decade.
To re-create the style of The Macallan in the 1920’s, their master distiller has sampled bottles of The Macallan from that decade and matched their aroma and flavour with more recent distillations taken from the casks maturing in their warehouses.
During the 1920’s, most of The Macallan produce was sold to whisky blenders as a “top dressing” single malt for their blended whiskies. The few remaining casks continued to mature their contents for longer, resulting in a whisky that was slightly drier and less toffee sweet than modern day Macallan.

In the making of The Balvenie IslayCask, David Stewart selected Balvenie single malt which had matured in traditional oak casks for at least 17 years and transferred it into 94 casks which had previously held Islay single malt. After six months he felt the casks had imparted the desired delicate amount of peaty notes, typical of Islay, whilst retaining the distinctively honeyed character of The Balvenie. The Balvenie IslayCask was bottled in 2001 and the late Michael Jackson, world renowned whisky expert and author of The Malt Whisky Companion, wrote the following about it:

This is a bottle of the Russian Cask of Dreams release by Glenfiddich, strictly to the Russian market in 2012.
Idividuals were asked to sign and record their dreams on casks that was travelling around Russia. Once finished of the tour the cask was flown back to Scotland and filled with Glenfiddich for a a short period before bottling. The total out-turn of the Cask of Dreams was 6,420 bottles available only within the Russia.

An 8 year old single malt Scotch whisky from the Isle of Islay, bottled for Speciality Drinks’ Port Askaig range. Enjoyably smokey and elegant – a neat introduction to the range.
The Nàdurra range uses traditional 19th-century production methods to create inventive and original whiskies. This version is matured in first-fill Oloroso sherry oak casks from the Spanish region of Perez. The sherry-soaked wood introduces the rich, sultry flavours of dried fruit and warm spice. Nàdurra Oloroso, like all expressions in the range, is bottled and released in small batches, and, unlike most modern whiskies, is non-chill filtered so has all the body you would expect from a whisky that has been drawn straight from the cask. It’s a bright, vivacious gold liquid, with aromas of dried fruit and spice. To drink, it’s smooth and creamy with chocolate and marmalade. This is a divine example of what happens when you bring together Spanish passion and Speyside tradition. This whisky is all about using traditions to achieve modern brilliance. The Nàdurra Oloroso is also bottled at 48% for Travel Retail.

Cu Dhub, pronounced “kaddoo,” is actually a very loose recreation of a whisky called Loch Dhu, which was bottled for only a few years in the ’90s and managed to attain a sort of cult following during that time. Most reviews revel in how awful it is — primarily because it drew its color not from caramel but from extra-charred oak barrels, where it spent 10 years.
This whisky was distilled on 31/10/2007 and has been matured in sherry cask #1 before being bottled by Signatory Vintage on 15/10/2020.

Drawn from the rare reserves of exceptional Balvenie, this 21-year-old Old Bottling This is the original, first release of Balvenie 21 year old. This whisky was matured in traditional oak casks before being transferred to Port pipes. is notable for its great complexity and depth. Delicately fruity, with notes of smoky peach and raisin, it was specially finished in port pipes.
This is the fourth and final release in Tomatin’s French Collection is this cracking Cognac cask finished expression! Like the rest of the range (which includes Sauternes, Rivesaltes, and Monbazillac cask finished whiskies), this is a 12 year old single malt distilled in 2008. However, as we alluded to earlier, this one has enjoyed a finishing period in Cognac casks. This has imparted lip-smacking helpings of red fruit, toasted nut, and festive spice notes. It’s also rather fascination to compare the four releases in the series to see the impact the different French drinks have had on the great Scotch whisky at their cores.
Part of The 1700 Series from Macallan, which marked the year Easter Elchies House was built. The line was discontinued and replaced by the 1824 series in 2009.
