Royal Salute 21 Year is an homage by Chivas Regal to the newly crowned Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. At 21 years, it is also the youngest in the Royal Salute line-up. Why 21 years old you might ask? 21 is an important designation as it refers to the 21-gun-salute, for generations a form of honor and respect to sovereigns and dignitaries. Be aware that there are 3 different colors for the ceramic decanters (sapphire, ruby, and emerald), but the spirit is the same.

One of the Japanese whisky giants, Kotobukiya, or as we know them today; Suntory. The company was founded by Shinjiro Torii in 1899, first as an importer of Western wines and liquor. As he progressed within the business, he decided to build Japan’s first distillery despite protests from company directors. This is where Masataka Taketsuru comes into the picture. He was hired as a distillery executive at Yamazaki on the outskirts of Kyoto. He later left the company to found his own. Suntory developed Japan’s interest with whisky by opening Torys bars throughout the country and introducing ways to drink and enjoy the spirit. Now they produce numerous ranges including Yamazaki, Hibiki, and Hakushu.
Blended whisky Suntory Royal was launched in the 1960 to mark the company’s 60th anniversary. This 15-year-old bottling is light and soft with notes of toffee, ginger and spice and is a great introduction to the world of Japanese whisky.

A Japanese blend from Suntory, originally launched to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the company.
Suntory are one of the founding fathers of Japanese whisky, established by Shinjirō Torii in 1899 as a wine store in Osaka. The venture was hugely successful, and the company was renamed Kotobukiya in 1921, which built its first distillery three years later, Yamazaki. The distillery produced both malt and grain whiskies which the company blended together, releasing its first Suntory White Label in 1929, the resulting popularity of which saw the firm renamed after it 1963. Expansion in the next decade saw the company move its grain production to a new Chita distillery in 1972, and open a second malt distillery, Hakushu, the following year. Suntory today has a large stake in both the bourbon and Scotch whisky industry, but remains at the forefront of its native whisky market too.

This is the original release of Suntory Royal, bottled to commemorate the company’s 60th anniversary in 1959.

The single malt whiskies used in The Famous Grouse blend include the Edrington-owned Highland Park and The Macallan. Its emblem is the Red Grouse, Scotland’s national game bird.

First released in 2013, the Dalmore 25 is matured initially in American white oak before a second maturation in a combination of Palomino Fino sherry butts and first fill bourbon casks. These are then married together in bourbon barrels before a finishing period in Tawny Port pipes.
In 2013 Dalmore extended their core range of stunning whiskies with the Dalmore 25 Year Old. As a distillery that has a history of using an intricate selection of maturing methods, the 25 Year Old continues that tradition. First, it matured in American white oak cask. After that, it was hand-divided into 25 year old Palomino Fino sherry butts and 1980s first-fill bourbon casks. To create the first limited edition whisky in a new annual release series, The Macallan Whisky Maker Polly Logan embarked on a unique journey to Girona, Spain, where she immersed herself in the world of chocolate, exploring the chocolate-making process and uncovering the distinctive flavour profiles at Casa Cacao.
Polly worked with Jordi Roca, owner of the famed chocolate boutique and hotel, Casa Cacao and the youngest of the acclaimed Roca brothers. As part of the exploration, she also spent time with master chocolatier of Casa Cacao, Damien Allsop.
In homage to its chocolate influence, The Macallan Harmony Collection Rich Cacao is presented in a 100% recyclable gift box, made using discarded husks from cacao pods.
A by-product in the chocolate-making process, these husks would have been sent to landfill or destroyed but have now been reborn with a renewed purpose.
