You can see the connection there – smoky whisky, “fire”. This expression was drawn from a combination of first-fill bourbon casks and first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, making for a richly-flavoursome whisky.

Newbarns’ iconic PDB, barrel aged! Super-limited – a rare treat. Newbarns head brewer Gordon says ”Being in Scotland is definitely beneficial when it comes to sourcing barrels and knowing exactly what was in them. We’ve had the opportunity to really pick exactly what we wanted for our first Barrel Aged Plain Dark Beer. We used four barrels that previously held: 6 year old Ben Riach (a sherry octave), 24 year old Macallan, a 19 year old blended Speyside malt (a sherry butt) and a 52 year old Bonnington grain whisky. An added bonus for us is that the Bonnington distillery was a Leith-based distillery that was less than a 5 minute walk from where Newbarns is now. Although the distillery has been closed for a long time, we’ve managed to end up.

For Jack’s 160th birthday in 2010, the Distillery took the commonly used Heritage bottle, and with a few modifications, made a bottle unlike any before it. No longer clear glass, this bottle was painted black by Chattanooga Labeling Systems. The idea came from Michael Osborne Design, which also devised the black label for the bottle and the box in which it came. While the 750ml size is quite common, the 1 liter version of this bottle was only released in a limited number of states.
This limited edition bottle of the classic Old No.7 Brand was released to mark what would have been Jack’s 160th birthday in 2010.

This limited-edition blended malt whisky from Chivas, created to mark the 20th anniversary of Manchester United winning the ‘Treble’ in 1999.

50 year old Glenglassaugh single malt. Goodness gracious. This was distilled in November 1965 and matured in a single hogshead until November 2016, when the distillery in the Highlands bottled it up as the oldest expression in their Rare Cask Release Batch 3. 285 bottles were produced.
It warrants saying again. 50 year old Glenglassaugh single malt. Goodness gracious indeed.

From Glenglassaugh’s third batch of Rare Cask Release expressions comes a 47 year old single malt finished in a single Pedro Ximenéz Sherry puncheon. Cask 2230 was filled all the way back in December 1968 and cracked open in November 2016, with 404 bottles produced. Batch 3 of the Glenglassaugh Rare Cask Release features whiskies all aged for at least 30 years. Blimey.
