Description

Edradour 21 Year Old 1999 Bordeaux Finish 70cl 55.7% is a rare and characterful Highland single malt Scotch whisky from one of Scotland’s smallest and most traditional distilleries. This long-aged release was distilled in 1999 and bottled at 55.7% ABV after more than two decades of maturation, showing a richer and more unusual side of Edradour through Bordeaux wine cask finishing.

This expression was initially matured in ex-bourbon hogsheads before spending a lengthy finishing period in Bordeaux casks. One well-documented version was distilled on 12 October 1999, bottled on 21 November 2020, finished for seven years in Premier Grand Cru Bordeaux hogsheads, and released from casks 808 and 810 with an outturn of 569 bottles. Retailers also describe the broader release style as a 21-year-old 1999 vintage bottled in 2021 after finishing in a pair of ex-Bordeaux wine casks.

The Bordeaux finish gives Edradour’s naturally weighty spirit a different profile from its more familiar sherried style. Available tasting notes point to orange zest, barley sugar sweets, Turkish Delight, candied orange peel, ginger, redcurrant sweetness, and warming spice, making it especially appealing for drinkers who enjoy wine-cask matured single malts with both richness and structure.

Collector’s Note

This bottling has strong collector appeal because it combines a 1999 vintage, a 21-year age statement, cask strength presentation, and a less common Bordeaux cask finish for Edradour. Long-aged official Edradour releases are already sought after, and the wine-cask influence makes this especially interesting for buyers who enjoy comparing the distillery’s classic profile with more unusual maturations. The comparison point is an inference based on the release style and available retailer descriptions.
