Kavalan Classic Gift Set (70cl, 40% + 5cl, 46%)
Established in 2005, Kavalan is Taiwan’s first whiskymaker, with their Kavalan Concertmaster named Best in Class at the 2011 International Wine & Spirit Competition. Kavalan Single Malt Whisky (70cl, 40%)
King Car distillery is located in Yilan County, Taiwan, and the single malt whisky produced there is named after the indigenous people who originally inhabited this northeastern corner of the island: the Kavalan.
Although the distillery was only brought on stream in 2005, the warm sub-tropical climate means that the whisky effectively matures more quickly and an impressive range of whiskies are available (now finally in the UK too!). This Kavalan Single Malt Whisky, for example was awarded a Gold Medal at the 2011 International Wine & Spirits Competition.

Stokerij De Molenberg Folle Blanche 2022 / 9th Anniversary Edition
Distillery De Molenberg is built alongside Het Anker Brewery and is owned by Gouden Carolus. It is based in Mechelen, Belgium.
Gouden Carolus did not start as a whisky company, but has a long tradition brewing beer. In 2009, Gouden Carolus started the renovation works for their distillery. Late 2009, the hand hammered copper pot stills (a first for Belgian distilleries) that were made by coppersmith, Forsyths in Scotland were installed. In October 2010 the first pure distillate flowed out of these stills. Their core range whisky, the Gouden Carolus Single Malt, is distilled from the mash of Gouden Carolus Tripel beer.

Kavalan King Car Whisky Conductor (70cl, 46%)
This expression from the Taiwanese King Car distillery is the first to carry the name of the King Car Group instead of ‘Kavalan’ as their single malt whiskies have all be known as to date. Created as a well-rounded malt to represent the well-rounded Group, who operate in many industries, it is also bottled at a higher abv of 46%.
Omar Single Malt Whisky Sherry Cask (70cl, 46%)
The Nantou Distillery in central Taiwan is one of a number of distilleries owned by the state, but the only one making whisky. They began to produce whisky back in 2008, and now we can finally get a taste of their single malt! This particularly expression was aged in Sherry casks, resulting in classic chocolate-coated raisin notes.
Penderyn Portwood (70cl, 46%)
After a number of excellent single Port cask releases (and a 41% release), here’s single malt from the Welsh distillery’s core range which is initially matured in ex-bourbon casks and then in Portwood casks following that!
Kavalan Solist Oloroso Sherry Oak (70cl, 46%)
Kavalan Oloroso Sherry Oak Single Malt Taiwanese Whisky 700ml
In ancient times, the land around I-Lan in Taiwan was called Kavalan, a mysterious land that was solely inhabited by the indigenous people of the Kavalan clan. The name was officially recognized by the Emperor of the Chin dynasty in the year of 1809 when the original city was also built under the same name.
For the Kavalan Oloroso Sherry Oak, the distillery dilutes the Solist Oloroso Sherry with Kavalan spring water to 46% alcoholic strength. The resulting drop is easy to drink and is the perfect single malt whisky to share with friends and family.
This whisky has a deep mahogany colour. A clean and complex flavour profile with multiple layers of nuttiness, dried fruit, and spices with some hints of vanilla and marzipan. A smooth, well-balanced palate with a natural sweetness full of pleasant dried fruits and spices. An elegantly long finish.
Kavalan Podium (70cl, 46%)
Kavalan single malt from Taiwan matured in a combination of new American oak (virgin oak) and the distillery’s refill casks for an exciting expression from this well regarded Asian whisky distillery.
Kavalan Bourbon Oak (70cl, 46%)
Like the Kavalan Sherry Oak, this release takes the same fantastic liquid that’s been used in Solist releases (in this case, the bourbon cask matured ones) and dilutes it to a bottling strength of 46% using local spring water.

This four-year-old single malt from Australia’s Corowa distillery joins the Cinema Series from That Boutique-y Whisky Company. The whisky spent its time maturing in a muscat cask, imparting generous notes of figs and dates to the chocolatey malt at its core. Kavalan Solist ex-Bourbon Cask (70cl, 59.4%)
Solist is German for ‘Soloist’, which in this case refers to the fact that this expression is from Kavalan’s single cask range (they really, really like musical metaphors). Given this whisky is of course Taiwanese, I can’t really tell you why this range has an apparently German name but I can tell you that their ex-Bourbon cask releases won a Gold Medal at both the ISC 2010 and the IWSC 2011. Impressive.

Paul John 6 Year Old – Batch 6 That Boutique-y Whisky Company (50cl, 47.6%)
An Indian single malt whisky from the Paul John distillery, located in tropical Goa. Paul John distillery uses six row barley that is sourced from foothills of the Himalayas. The high fibre and protein content in six row barley, offers a distinct tannic character to the spirit. The tropical climate for maturation means a high angel’s share, 8-10%, as opposed to Scotland’s 2-3%. After just six years of maturation, around 40% of the cask contents is lost to evaporation. That loss would take around 24 years in Scotland! A cracking addition to That Boutique-y Whisky Company’s Cinema Series, with a label that imagines James Bond, Bollywood style.
Batch 6 is a release of 175 bottles.
Kavalan Solist Oloroso Sherry Cask (70cl, 57.8%)
Single Oloroso Sherry cask matured whisky from Taiwan, bottled at 58.6% with neither chill filtration nor artificial colouring. Top stuff.
