Benrinnes 1990 30 Year Old Connoisseurs Choice Gordon & MacPhail 70cl, 55.1%
A 1990 Benrinnes single malt from indie bottler Gordon & MacPhail, matured in a single first-fill sherry hogshead for three decades, before being bottled in November 2020 as part of its Connoisseurs Choice series. Aromas of cinnamon, ginger and fruit cake fill the nose, complemented by notes of dark chocolate, stewed apples, toffee and walnuts throughout the palate.
A cracking, seriously matured Connoisseurs Choice bottling from Gordon and MacPhail.
This whisky was distilled at Benrinnes way back in 1990. Prior to 2007, Benrinnes practiced an unusual distillation process, whereby the spirit was partially triple distilled, producing a thick, meaty new make.
This distillation process meant that Benrinnes whisky was well suited to long term maturation, particularly in sherry casks, a fact demonstrated by this bottling.
This dram has been aged for fully three decades in a First Fill Sherry Hogsheads.
The result is a dram that serves up notes of sherry soaked fruit cake, cinnamon spice, dark chocolate, baked apples, drying oak, burnt marshmallows, caramel sauce, almond flakes and muscular roasted malt. A full bodied and intense dram.
Benrinnes 30 Year Old is bottled at a cask strength of 55.1%, and without chill filtration or colouration.
Just 227 bottles were created.

Benriach Smoky Quarter Cask 1L, 46%
Benriach’s Smoky Quarter Cask celebrates the distillery’s use of peat, which began in the 1970s, harking back to whisky production of old, while breaking the conventional style of whisky from the Speyside region. The use of wood-rich Highland peat results in a sweet, smoky profile, and this expression is crafted with a balance of Benriach’s peated and unpeated spirit. Initially matured in bourbon barrels, the whisky is then transferred to bespoke quarter casks. The smaller cask size ensures greater interaction between the whisky and the oak, resulting in rewardingly rich layers of fruit, vanilla, and mellow wood smoke. Oh, and this is a litre bottle originally released for travel retail, so, even more, to go round!
Benriach Smoke Season 70cl, 52.8%
Celebrating the time of year when Benriach produces its peated spirit, Smoke Season is the distillery’s smokiest whisky to date! While smoky whiskies used to be much more of a thing in the Speyside region many moons ago, that’s not quite the case these days. However, Benriach has long produced peated spirit for a short while each year, and this expression shows off the fruits of that labour in its full splendour! Matured in a combination of bourbon barrels and virgin oak casks, this one packs a bold flavour profile for sure.
Benriach Quarter Cask (1L, 46%)
A litre bottle of Benriach Quarter Cask, which is first aged in bourbon barrels before a second maturation in bespoke quarter casks. The smaller casks allow for more interaction between the wood and whisky, amplifying those buttery, woody flavours we know and love.
BenRiach Peated Cask Strength Batch 1 (70cl, 56%)
The first release from BenRiach’s Peated Cask Strength series (in the same vein as their unpeated Cask Strength releases) is made with whiskies drawn from Oloroso Sherry casks and bourbon barrels.
BenRiach Heart of Speyside (70cl, 40%)
The entry level BenRiach bottling with no age statement, named for the distillery’s location in Elgin in Moray at the heart of Speyside. A fresh, youthful whisky with a distinct countryside note.
BenRiach Cask Strength Batch 2 (70cl, 60.6%)
For the second batch of BenRiach Cask Strength, the distillers in Speyside have combined whisky matured in bourbon, oloroso sherry and virgin oak casks. Intensely flavoursome stuff.
BenRiach Birnie Moss Intensely Peated (70cl, 48%)
Birnie Moss is a heavily-peated NAS expression of BenRiach originally produced to appeal to the young whisky loving folk of Spain but that has spilled over into being hit across Europe.
BenRiach 35 Year Old (70cl, 42.5%)
Introduced in 2014 as a replacement for the 30 Year Old, this contains malt from the 1970s, a time when the distillery was owned by Glenlivet. A classic example of aged Speyside, this is sweet and spicy.
Benriach 30 Year Old The Thirty (70cl, 46%)

BenRiach 30 Year Old Authenticus Peated (70cl, 46%)

BenRiach 25 Year Old Authenticus Peated Malt (70cl, 46%)
A 25 year old from Speyside’s Benriach, made using their peated spirit and sat at the top end of the age range for their peated whisky. This is the follow-up to the much-vaunted Authenticus 21yo and is claimed by the producers to show herb, honey and tropical fruit flavours alongside the smoke.
BenRiach 25 Year Old (70cl, 46.8%)
BenRiach 25 year old is aged in a combination of three different cask types: Oloroso, bourbon and virgin oak. Now bottled “at the preferred strength of 46.8%”.
