Mackinlay’s Shackleton Rare Old Highland Malt The Journey 2st Edition (70cl, 47.3%)

The 2007 discovery of whisky left in Antarctica by Sir Ernest Shackleton during his famous expedition in the early 1900s led to Richard ‘The Nose’ Paterson using all his skill and experience to recreate this historic whisky, raising £250,000 for the Antarctic Heritage Trust in the process.

Approached by the charity and Alexandra Shackleton (Ernest’s grand-daughter) to produce a second edition of his blended malt to coincide with Tim Jarvis’ Shackleton Epic (the first authentic re-enactment of Shackleton’s extraordinary Antarctic survival journey of 1916), how could Paterson refuse?

Digging out another rare cask of Glen Mhor (an even older one, this time from 1980), as well as some heavily-peated Dalmore(!), he once again recreated the Shackleton whisky, also using malts from Glenfarclas, Mannochmore, Tamnavulin, Ben Nevis, Aultmore, Fettercairn, Pulteney and Jura.

The resulting masterpiece of blending offers something different, whilst clearly coming from the same lineage as his first lovingly recreated malt. A new and critically-acclaimed interpretation of a truly classic whisky.

If you haven’t seen the show, essentially The Night’s Watch hold and guard the Wall, an immense ice structure which separates the northern border of the Seven Kingdoms from the lands beyond. If you’re not very familiar with Oban, it’s a whisky producer in the Highlands that sits on the edge of Scotland’s western coast that’s known for its clean and intensely fruity Scotch. In our opinion, both provide equally important services. One protects the realm from raiders and worse (no spoilers, people), while the other makes very tasty whisky for us to drink. Glenmorangie have kicked off their Bond House No.1 series of vintage expressions with an absolutely stonking 1990 vintage single malt! This terrific tipple was distilled right when everyone realised that the year 2000 might actually happen, and left to age in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-Sherry casks for quarter of a century before being bottled at 43% ABV. The distillers in the Highlands figured that a whisky as smashing as this needed a rather handsome bottle too, which is always a treat.

In his Whisky Bible 2017, Jim Murray gave this a massive 94 points (earning a Liquid Gold Award), and also took home a Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2017!

Inspired by the secrets of a Highland heirloom, Glenmorangie Cadboll brings a sumptuous sweetness to our Legends Collection.

Extra-matured in superior French barriques which previously held wines such as those of the Muscat and Sémillion grapes, the delectably rich single malt whisky honours the splendour of the Cadboll Cup. This enigmatic wine cup, which entwines Scottish artistry and mysterious French influences in its design, was treasured for generations at our Highland home, near the Glenmorangie Distillery. That shared heritage is celebrated in a whisky of tempting, dessert-like flavours, which wonderfully hint at the sweet wines of the past that the Cadboll Cup might once have held.

Nestled in a quiet clearing, surrounded by fragrant gorse and towering pines, the Tarlogie Spring has served as the sole water source for our distillery since 1843. Its unique, mineral-rich waters allow us to create our unusually fragrant house style.

Glenmorangie Tarlogan displays all the sweet purity of the Tarlogie Spring while maintaining a classic Glenmorangie backbone. Aged in virgin oak as well as ex-bourbon casks, Glenmorangie Tarlogan evokes the botanical aromas of an early summer morning walk through the woods.

Glenmorangie Signet (70cl, 46%)

A fusion of unique and rare elements, and clouded in secrecy, Signet is the culmination of a lifetime’s experience. A blend of our oldest whisky and spirit matured in a selection of the world’s finest casks, this undoubtedly is the richest whisky in our range.

Of course, whilst the exact secrets of its production are known only to our whisky creators, we can tell you that Signet’s melting sweetness and explosive spiciness is, at least in part, caused by our unique roasted ‘chocolate’ barley malt and the ‘designer casks’ made bespoke for Glenmorangie from American white oak. Non chill-filtered

Glenmorangie 18 Year Old Extremely Rare (70cl, 43%)

The 18 Years Old is a single malt Scotch whisky of serious distinction. Once it has spent fifteen years maturing in American white oak casks approximately 30% is transferred into Spanish Oloroso casks to spend a further three years maturing. Then, when both elements have reached 18 years, we blend them back together to create a whisky with a rich bouquet and full, rounded flavour. For a whisky of this age this expression has maintained, thanks to our delicate floral spirit and fine Oloroso casks, an incredible degree of vibrancy where the raisiny sweetness of the sherry has been toned down by the nuttiness of the American oak.

Nectar D’Or is probably a reference to the golden nectar that was previously held in the casks used to finish the whisky. This is a sauternes finished single malt from the Glenmorangie distillery, a fruity, vinous release from the Highland distillery.

The original expression of our elegant, floral spirit and the real backbone of the Glenmorangie range. A ten-year-old single malt, Glenmorangie Original is produced by marrying the delicate spirit that emerges from Scotland’s tallest stills, with first and second fill American white oak casks.

It is here, maturing for ten long years in a range of ex-bourbon casks such as our famous slow-grown and air-dried ‘designer casks’ from Missouri, that our raw spirit develops a perfect balance between sweetness and complexity. Resulting in a mature spirit that is soft, mellow and creamy. Perfect for enjoying at any time.

Dalmore 18 Year Old (70cl, 43%)

Dalmore’s stunning 18 year old Highland malt is as rich, fruity and spicy as you could ever want from a Dalmore. Kudos to Richard Paterson for creating another veritable chocolate orange of a whisky – a surefire hit, and great for the colder months. It is aged for 14 years in American oak, followed by three years in Matusalem sherry butts, before a final year in sherry butts.
