While the Teeling Distillery of today was officially opened in 2015, the brand’s history in Irish whiskey actually stretches back to 1782, when a chap called Walter Teeling set up a distillery in the Liberties area of Dublin. Fast-forward to the present (not forgetting the era when John Teeling owned the Cooley Distillery, before selling it to Beam in 2011) and the Teelings are again at the forefront of Irish distilling.
Identifying as a ‘progressive’ distillery, the team, led by Jack Teeling, his brother Stephen, and master distiller Alex Chasko, are leading the Irish whiskey innovation charge. From the ‘re-imagined’ Dublin porter recipes and proprietary fermentation techniques used to create the Teeling wash to the three different stills in operation, the team pushes what’s possible in Irish whiskey-making to create delicious drinks. This pioneering attitude is underscored by the fact that a whopping 25% of annual production is dedicated to whiskey experiments. Exciting stuff.
What does this mean for the whiskey? While the new distillery’s spirit comes of age, Teeling is releasing liquid that showcases the style and character we can expect from years to come. From the flagship (and tasty) Single Malt to expressions like the Brabazon series which celebrate the history of whiskey distilling in Dublin, the Teeling range is well worth exploring.

Teeling’s Revival series comes to its conclusion with Volume V, which is a 12 year old single malt Irish whiskey initially in ex-Bourbon barrels. Following that maturation, the whiskey was moved over to Cognac and brandy barrels for a finishing period, then bottled at 46% ABV. A release of 15,000 bottles.
A limited edition 13 Year Old Single Grain made in the Unconventional Teeling way! This whiskey was made using a recipe of 95% corn and 5% malted barley. Aged in ex-bourbon casks before maturing a total of 4 years in ex Bordeaux red wine casks. Expect plenty of summer fruit flavours, raspberry jam, vanilla cream, and spicy, dry tannins in this sensational whiskey!
Feast your eyes on the Renaissance Series 2 from Teeling! Launched to celebrate the ongoing renaissance of Irish whiskey, the first expression in the range was finished in ex-Madeira casks – this time, the fantastic 18 year old Irish single malt has been finished in ex-Australian Shiraz casks after maturing in ex-bourbon barrels. This has imparted a generous scoop of ripe fruit notes, along with a dusting of vibrant spices. A release of 9,000 bottles.

This right here is the fourth release in Teeling’s Renaissance Series, which celebrates the return of distilling in Dublin and Irish whiskey’s renaissance. It’s an 18 year old single malt whiskey, which has enjoyed a rather interesting finishing period – it spent 18 months resting in Pineau des Charentes casks! If you’re not familiar with it, Pineau des Charentes is a French fortified wine made with grape juice or must, blended with Cognac. It’s brilliantly vibrant and fruity, and those elements have made their way into this ace single malt!
This award-winning whiskey has won best in class annually at the World Whiskies Awards since its release, and is one of only a handful of Single Grain bottlings in the world.
It is fully matured in Californian red wine barrels resulting in an intensely fruity and beautifully amber liquid, with lush berry notes.
Hand selected casks, bottled at 46% with no chill filtration to ensure all the unique flavour is captured.

Made from 100% Malted Barley from a range of different ages including Malt whiskey distilled in 1991. Our aim was to produce the most flavoursome non-age statement Irish Single Malt based on our innovative maturation and finishing techniques while retaining the distinctive Irish smoothness. Consists of a vatting of 5 different wine cask (Sherry, Port, Madeira, White Burgundy, Cabernet Sauvignon) finished Irish Malt whiskeys. Like all the Teeling whiskeys, it is bottled at 46% with no chill filtration
