1954 would present the opportunity to add another award to the Jack Daniel collection as a whiskey competition was to be held in Brussels, Belgium…Jack Daniel’s whiskey went on to win the Star of Excellence, awarded to whiskeys for a “surpassing of excellence.” This commemorative bottle celebrating that achievement was released in 2005.

Beginning in 1996 and continuing for the next 10 years, the Jack Daniel Distillery released its Gold Medal Series of commemorative bottles. Comprised of seven unique designs, each bottle in this series celebrates a different gold medal won by the Distillery. In the U.S., the series featured 750ml bottles filled with 90 proof whiskey. International markets offer these bottles only in a 1 liter size, with the exception of the first bottle in the series which was available only in the 750ml size.

The bottle we currently have here for sale has been signed by the late Jimmy Bedford, Jack Daniel’s’ sixth master distiller.

This special bottle is the sixth in the Jack Daniels Gold Medal Series and honours the 1954 Brussels Belgium Star of Excellence. As usual, there is a heart-warming story of simple country folk associated with this bottling:

“The story goes that Reagor Motlow, one of Lem’s sons, received a letter about a whisky judging contest in Brussels, Belgium. He handed the letter to Herb Fanning, his right hand man and told him to take care of it. And indeed Mr. Herb did! He walked right out of the production line and pulled off the first three bottles and sent them on their way. According to Mr. Herb, when the folks from the advertising department found he had pulled whisky for the competition from the bottling line, they were a bit upset and asked him why he hadn’t looked for some special whisky for the judging. To this Mr.Herb exclaimed, “Why all Jack Daniels is special!”

Later Mr. Herb, in recalling the story said he figured he might get fired over that, but about that time letter came announcing that Jack Daniels had won the star of Excellence!

The second letter seemed to set things right between Mr.Herb and the advertising team, because not only did Mr.Herb keep his job for many years before retiring, but he also appeared in quite a few Jack Daniels ads. Herb became one of Lynchburg’s best known and much loved citizens, and was a fixture on the Square until he passed away in 1997 at the ripe old age of 93. Mr.Herb’s lifelong love of and faith in Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey epitomises the character of the people behind the Jack Daniel Brand.”.

Glenfiddich 8 Year Old Pure Malt Bot.1970s 26 2/3 Fl Oz 70 Proof

    Collector’s Note

This bottle has strong collector appeal because it belongs to the early phase of Glenfiddich’s rise as one of the defining names in single malt Scotch whisky. Bottles from this era often matter more than later routine core-range releases because they capture the brand while it was still establishing the presentation and identity that later became globally recognisable.

It is also attractive because the whisky appears to carry a flavour profile that feels distinctly old-style. Published tasting notes for comparable bottlings point toward tropical fruit, grassy freshness, savoury spice and slightly funky orchard fruit rather than a simple light Speyside profile, which helps this bottle stand out both as a collectible and as a drinking curiosity for those who open rare stock.

    Tasting Notes

Royal Salute 21 Year Old Diamond Jubilee 70cl

    390

Keeping with tradition, Royal Salute will launch the Royal Salute Diamond Jubilee Limited Edition to celebrate the Queen’s 60 year reign. Originally, Chivas Brothers first created Royal Salute as a tribute to the finest aged Scotch whiskies to Queen Elizabeth II, to celebrate her coronation in 1953. Indeed, 2,500 initial decanters were filled on the day of her coronation, the 2nd of June 1953. She’s the only the second monarch to do so, and it has not been seen since King Charles II reign over 400 years ago.

The very rare bottle is made from hand-blown and hand-cut crystal decanter and is finished with a show-stopping solid cut crystal stopper. Presented in a hand-crafted display box, the striking royal-blue whisky bottle retails.

The Diamond Jubilee will be celebrated in London and the Royal Salute Diamond Jubilee is a limited edition bottle that will only be available in 2012 during the Jubilee celebrations.

Home Blend 1980 Wilson and Morgan 35 Year Old Sherry Wood

Wilson & Morgan was founded in Italy in 1992 by Fabio Rossi, the son of prolific importer Mario Rossi Jr, who began distributing Scotch whisky back in the 1960s. His son’s company was one of a new generation of Italian bottlers established in the 1990s, which aimed to replicate the successes of predecessors like Samaroli and Moon Import.

This is a blend of 1980 vintage malt and grain whiskies, aged in sherry wood and bottled as 35 year old in 2015.

The 7th and final bottle in the Gold Medal Series celebrates the most recent gold medal Jack Daniel’s has received, and perhaps the most prestigious. Despite the strict judging criteria, Jack Daniel’s came away with the institution’s top medal, the highly sought after Grand Gold Medal with Palm Leaves. This commemorative bottle celebrating that achievement was released in 2006.

This is the seventh in a series of releases from Jack Daniel’s to commemorate the gold medals awarded to the distillery. This bottling is for the medal won in 1981 at the Institut Pour Les Selections De La Qualite in Amsterdam.

The 2012 entry in Glenmorangie’s Private Edition range, named Artein, meaning ‘Stone’. This matches up with the meaning of Sassicaia (from ‘Sasso’, also stone), the ‘Super Tuscan’ wine previously held in the barrels used to finish this whisky. It’s got 15 years old on the label, but it’s actually made up of 2 parts 15 year old to 1 part 21 year old whisky for a solid mix of well matured Glenmorangie.

A tribute to the royal key ceremony is the 30-year-old Key to the Kingdom whiskey from Royal Salute. This ritual takes place annually in Edinburgh at the gates of the famous Holyrood Palace and is one of the proudest in the British monarchy – it symbolizes freedom and honor. The blend includes a variety of expertly selected whiskeys from Scotland, all of which have been matured for at least 30 years.

A new expression from Royal Salute, celebrating its connection to the British monarchy and taking its name from the Ceremony of the Keys, held annually in Edinburgh. It proffers aromas of tarte Tatin , blood orange and subtle peat smoke on the nose, with rhubarb, cinnamon and smoked peach on the palate.

  • Highland Park 21 Year Old August 2019 Release 70cl, 46%

Highland Park 21 Year Old August 2019 Release 70cl, 46%

    299

Selecting similar quantities of contrasting cask types – nine first-fill European sherry seasoned oak hogsheads, eight ex-bourbon hogsheads, and nine refill hogsheads – gives the November 2019 Release of Highland Park 21 Year Old single malt whisky an impressively rounded and unique flavour. As the warm spices and rich dried fruit flavours of the European casks mingle with the sweeter, exotic fruit notes from the ex-bourbon hogsheads, the softer influence of the refill casks finishes off the harmony.

Bottled at its marrying strength of 46%, this exceptionally well-balanced whisky delivers notes of freshly-cut pineapple, ripe mango, juicy pears, sun-dried sultanas, dried exotic fruit, spice market aromas and curls of densely aromatic peat smoke.

We’ve been crafting our award-winning whisky at the Highland Park Distillery in Kirkwall, Orkney, since 1798. Age, experience and respect for tradition may define our whisky, but it’s Orkney that sets it apart. Something magic happens here and the result is the wild harmony of flavours found in our whisky.
