Description
Molinari White Sambuca Extra 70cl, 40% is a classic Italian anise-flavoured liqueur produced by the Molinari family. Officially named Molinari Sambuca Extra, it is often described as “White Sambuca” to distinguish its crystal-clear appearance from darker coffee-based sambuca expressions.
Created by Angelo Molinari in Civitavecchia in 1945, Sambuca Extra is based on a closely guarded family recipe built around star anise. It became closely associated with post-war Italian dining culture and remains Molinari’s signature expression.
Production begins with essential oils obtained from distilled star-anise seeds. These aromatic oils are infused into alcohol and blended with herbs, spices and sugar syrup, creating the liqueur’s distinctive combination of intense anise, sweetness and warming botanical character.
Bottled at 40%, Molinari Extra is full-bodied and aromatic, with concentrated star anise, liquorice, subtle citrus, herbal freshness and a long, warming finish. It can be served neat, chilled, over ice, added to coffee or enjoyed traditionally with coffee beans.
Why Choose Molinari White Sambuca Extra 70cl, 40%
This liqueur stands out because it delivers a pure and concentrated expression of star anise while remaining smooth, rounded and pleasantly sweet.
The 40% strength gives Molinari Extra enough structure to balance its sugar and intense botanical character. Notes of aniseed and liquorice dominate, followed by gentle herbs, fresh citrus peel and warming spice. The result is richer and more persistent than many lower-strength anise liqueurs.
It is also highly versatile. Molinari Extra works equally well as an after-dinner digestif, a chilled party shot, an accompaniment to espresso or a distinctive ingredient in cocktails and long drinks. Molinari’s official cocktail range uses it in variations of the Mule, Mojito and Margarita.
Ideal For.
This bottle is ideal for drinkers who enjoy strong star-anise, liquorice, fennel and sweet herbal flavours.
It is ideal for serving neat after a meal, chilled from the freezer, poured over ice or added to freshly prepared espresso.
It is also ideal for traditional Sambuca con la Mosca service, using three coffee beans, or for cocktails requiring a sweet, aromatic and strongly anise-led liqueur.

Collector’s Note
Molinari Sambuca Extra is primarily produced for drinking rather than as a numbered or restricted collector’s release. Its historical importance comes from its position as the original Molinari expression created by Angelo Molinari in 1945 and its long association with Italian restaurant and café culture.
Collectors may be interested in different bottle designs, label generations, export editions and market-specific packaging. Older examples with discontinued labels, tax strips or unusual bottle sizes may have greater display appeal than standard current releases.
The term “White Sambuca” distinguishes this clear expression from Molinari Caffè or other darker sambuca varieties. However, the official Molinari name remains Sambuca Extra.
