Description
Francis Ford Coppola Director’s Cut Russian River Pinot Noir 2016 75cl, 14.5% is a rich and expressive Californian red wine produced from Pinot Noir grown in the prestigious Russian River Valley of Sonoma County.
The Russian River Valley is strongly influenced by cool fog travelling inland from the nearby Pacific Ocean. Evening fog can lower vineyard temperatures significantly, extending the growing season and allowing Pinot Noir grapes to ripen slowly while maintaining natural acidity and aromatic freshness.
The region’s loam and alluvial soils help produce fragrant Pinot Noir with ripe fruit, floral complexity and a distinctive earthy character. For the 2016 Director’s Cut, the grapes were fermented in open-top fermenters, with the cap punched down several times each day to increase colour and flavour extraction.
Following fermentation, the wine matured for seven and a half months in French oak barrels. The barrel programme consisted of approximately 40% new oak and 60% barrels between one and two years old, adding vanilla, baking spice and toasted wood without completely hiding the fruit.
The finished wine offers concentrated black cherry, raspberry and dark plum, accompanied by floral notes, damp earth, clove, cinnamon and oak spice. Bottled at 14.5%, it presents a fuller, more powerful interpretation of Russian River Valley Pinot Noir.
Why Choose Francis Ford Coppola Director’s Cut Russian River Pinot Noir 2016 75cl, 14.5%
This wine stands out because it combines the natural elegance of Russian River Valley Pinot Noir with a richer, oak-influenced style.
Slow ripening under the region’s cool maritime conditions helps preserve acidity and aromatic detail, while open-top fermentation builds colour and flavour concentration. French oak maturation contributes vanilla, clove, cinnamon and autumnal spice to the ripe cherry and berry character.
The 2016 vintage was awarded 94 points and a Platinum Award at the 2018 Critics Challenge International Wine Competition. It also received 93 points from Wine Review Online, which praised its bold black-cherry fruit, damp earth and oak-spice character.
Its distinctive wraparound Director’s Cut label, inspired by early moving-picture zoetrope strips, also gives the bottle strong visual appeal and reflects Francis Ford Coppola’s connection to cinema.

Francis Ford Coppola Director’s Cut Russian River Pinot Noir 2016 is primarily a premium drinking wine rather than a numbered or strictly limited collector’s edition.
Its collector appeal comes from its Russian River Valley origin, distinctive cinematic packaging and recognition from established wine competitions and critics. The 94-point Platinum Award and 93-point professional review give this vintage a documented identity within the Director’s Cut range.

As a 2016 vintage, provenance and storage are now important. Bottles stored consistently in cool, dark and stable conditions, with an intact cork, strong fill level and clean label, will offer the greatest drinking and display appeal.
