Description
Edradour Ballechin 10 Year Old 70cl 46% is a heavily peated Highland single malt Scotch whisky produced at Edradour Distillery near Pitlochry. Ballechin is the name used for Edradour’s peated spirit, distilled since 2003 using barley peated to at least 50ppm, and the 10 Year Old became the first ongoing core release for the range after earlier Discovery series bottlings.
Bottled at 46% ABV, this expression is presented without colouring and without chill filtration. Retailer descriptions note that it is made from small batches of ex-bourbon casks with a generous top-dressing of ex-Oloroso sherry casks, giving it a balance of smoke, sweetness, spice, and depth.
While many peated whiskies are associated with Islay, Ballechin offers a Highland interpretation of smoky single malt. The result is a style that combines earthy peat, sweetened smoke, chocolate oak, and a grassy herbal edge, making it especially attractive to drinkers who want something smoky but different from a coastal medicinal profile.

Collector’s Note
Ballechin 10 Year Old is more of a drinker’s bottle than a rare long-term collector release, but it remains an important expression within the Edradour range because it is the core age-stated bottling of the distillery’s heavily peated spirit. For Edradour followers, it is a key bottle for showing the smoky side of the distillery’s identity. This collector note is partly an inference based on the range position and release history.
