Description
Arran 14 Year Old 70cl, 46% is a richly rewarding Island single malt Scotch whisky produced at Lochranza Distillery on the Isle of Arran. The purple cylindrical box and matching label shown belong to the earlier generation released before the expression was withdrawn from the core range.
The first official Arran 14 Year Old was launched in August 2010, marking an important stage in the development of the young distillery. It remained a popular core-range expression until being placed on hiatus in 2018. Arran eventually reintroduced the age statement in 2026 with redesigned packaging and a refined recipe, making this original presentation clearly different from the current release.
The discontinued version married bourbon- and sherry-matured whisky to balance Arran’s naturally fresh, fruit-driven spirit with additional sweetness, spice and depth. Earlier old-label bottlings are widely documented as bourbon-led, with one version composed of approximately 80% first-fill ex-bourbon and 20% ex-sherry casks. Batch composition evolved during the release’s original production period, so the exact ratio may vary according to bottling date.
Bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration or artificial colouring, it offers dried fruit, vanilla, toffee, apples, hazelnuts, chocolate orange and cinnamon, balanced by the gentle salty character associated with Arran whisky.
Why Choose Arran 14 Year Old 70cl, 46%
This expression stands out because it represents one of Arran’s most admired discontinued core-range bottlings. Its combination of bourbon sweetness, restrained sherry richness and coastal freshness produces a whisky with greater weight and maturity than younger Arran releases.
At 46%, it retains a rich texture and expressive flavour without becoming excessively strong. Natural colour and non-chill filtration further preserve its malt, fruit, oak and cask character.
For collectors, the original purple packaging distinguishes it from the redesigned 2026 release. For drinkers, it delivers the classic earlier Arran profile of dried fruit, toffee, orchard fruit, nuts, spice and gentle salinity.
Ideal For.
This bottle is ideal for Arran collectors seeking the discontinued pre-2018 version of the distillery’s 14 Year Old single malt.
It is ideal for whisky drinkers who enjoy balanced Island malts with tropical and orchard fruit, vanilla, caramel, subtle sherry richness and coastal character.
It is also ideal for comparing earlier Arran bottlings with the refined 14 Year Old recipe reintroduced in 2026.
Enjoy neat to appreciate its natural texture, or add a few drops of water to develop its citrus, caramelised fruit and salty notes.

Collector’s Note
Arran 14 Year Old has increased collector interest because its original production period ended when the expression was placed on hiatus in 2018. The distinctive purple tube and older Arran label make this bottle immediately recognisable as part of the pre-rebrand range.
The age statement also has historical importance. When introduced in August 2010, it was the oldest regularly available whisky in Arran’s core range and represented an important milestone for a distillery whose first spirit had run only in 1995.
Although it was not a numbered release, sealed examples with their original tube are becoming more interesting to Arran enthusiasts. The return of the 14 Year Old in 2026 with a refined recipe and completely updated presentation further separates these earlier bottles from the modern release.
For maximum collector appeal, the bottle should remain sealed and complete with its original purple presentation tube. The fill level, label, capsule and condition of the box should all be considered.
