Champagne is sparkling wine. Many people use the term Champagne as a generic term for sparkling wine but in some countries, it is illegal to label any product Champagne unless it both comes from the Champagne region and is produced under the rules of the appellation.Specifically, in the EU countries, legally only that sparkling wine which comes from the Champagne region of France can be labelled as Champagne.
Wine is an alcoholic drink made from fermented grapes.Yeast consumes the sugar in the grapes and converts it to ethanol, carbon dioxide, and heat. Different varieties of grapes and strains of yeasts produce different styles of wine. These variations result from the complex interactions between the biochemical development of the grape, the reactions involved in fermentation, the roister, and the production process. Many countries enact legal appellations intended to define styles and qualities of wine. These typically restrict the geographical origin and permitted varieties of grapes, as well as other aspects of wine production. Wines not made from grapes include rice wine and fruit wines such as plum, cherry, pomegranate, currant and elderberry.

This wine is showing exceptionally well in this classic vintage. The 2016 Guidalberto (Cabernet Sauvignon and a smaller percentage of Merlot) opens to a full and generous bouquet and a beautifully rich and velvety appearance. This edition of Tenuta San Guido’s mid-level wine offers a bigger aromatic profile, more texture and more volume as well. Dark cherry and blackberry segue to spice, tar, leather and sweet fruit at the end. The mouthfeel is elegantly shaped, silky and nuanced. This may well be the best vintage of Guidalberto I have yet to taste—and you can get this wine at a great price too.
This is extremely perfumed with aromas of lavender, cinnamon, blackberries, bark and blackcurrants. Full-bodied, extremely refined and polished. Gorgeous fruit and balance. Best ever bottling of this pretty wine from the producers of Sassicaia?
Dark red color with garnet reflections. Fine and round nose of cherry and plum with a hint of violet and some toasted notes. The mouth is endowed with a beautiful intensity, the wine is fleshy and ample with a beautiful aromatic persistence that leaves in the mouth some spicy notes of cinnamon
It has lovely pale yellow brilliant, slight nose with notes of white flowers, vanilla and relayed by several smoke buttons. An attack floral and round mouth that reveals a certain sweetness and light oak. The dominant mineral remains. Enjoy it on trout fillets with almonds, salmon en papillote or veal stew and small new vegetables.
Jean Bouchard’s Bourgogne Chardonnay is produced from grapes selected from selected Denomination of Origin (AOC) Bourgogne grapes, mainly from the communes of Saône-et-Loire, Yonne, and Côte de Beaune.
Straw yellow color with silver highlights. A fresh and fruity character with stone fruit aromas such as peach and plum. Soft and balanced in the mouth, with a long aftertaste with notes of limestone minerality. Best at 3-5 years from the harvest.
Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 20°C, then matures in the tanks for 10-12 months with the lees.
Drouhin have vineyards that entitle them to make nearly every one of the 101 Burgundy appellations, which few other family-run quality negociants can boast. Their quality in each is the focal point of every element of the production of wines and, using only organic and bio-dynamic practices since the 1970s, they reach their own exacting standards vintage after vintage. This blend of some of the best villages in the Cote de Beaune is a delicious wine that shows why the village wines can achieve such attention and have such a wealth of historical respect. The wine is supple but structured and complex yet approachable and is a very fine example of ‘what all the fuss is about’ without having to break the bank. A fine introduction but a choice for the connoisseur.
THE WINE ADVOCATE Rating (91 – 93)
“Aromas of orange rind, red berries, plums, rose petals and raw cocoa preface the Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Prieur, a medium to full-bodied, layered and elegantly enveloping wine that’s lively and refined, with a bright core of fruit and a sapid, mineral finish.” – William Kelley

The Joseph Drouhin winery is committed body and soul to the diversity of Burgundy, producing wines from almost 90 different appellations. The firm owns over 80 hectares of vines, most of them being Premier and Grand Crus, where they cultivate the two star grapes from Burgundy: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Joseph Drouhin creates wines from a fascinating variety of terroirs, expressing the authenticity and subtle differences in Burgundy wines.
A true family business, the Maison Joseph Drouhin has been run by the Drouhin family for the last 140 years. It is currently in the hands of the fourth generation who share the same passion and desire to listen to nature which inspired the winery’s founder. The Maison has adopted biological and biodynamic agricultural methods, using only natural products in the vineyards and showing the utmost respect for the land, vines and environment. One of the winery’s slogans sums it up perfectly – “we offer natural solutions to nature problems.” Vineyards are ploughed by horses, wild plants are allowed to grow between the vines to encourage the presence of natural predators, and natural compost and herbal infusions are used to help the vines grow and stay healthy. Drouhin reproduce the plants themselves to conserve their genetic heritage and control the quality of the process. Vines are deliberately planted close to each other to ensure low yields and receive the delicate message and values the soil offers the fruit.
The style of Joseph Drouhin wines is a blend of character, balance and harmony in search of perfection and elegance. Subtle and fresh wines to be enjoyed early, or wines which obtain a delicious complexity on ageing. Drouhin wines are found on the best dining tables, proudly expressing the very best Burgundy character to wine-lovers around the world.

Kidonitsa Aslanis Winery might not come from Laconia but from Michaniona, but that does not stop it from being a typical version of the variety, expressive and extremely enjoyable.
Aslani Winery is a family business since every member of the family has its position and role from production to marketing and accounting. The privately owned vineyards of the estate are spread on a beautiful piece of land, in Nea Michaniona, Thessaloniki and are organically cultivated. Laskaris’s (the father of the family) passion is hidden in every wine of the estate and Kidonitsa is one of his new great loves. The perfect ripening of the grapes is followed by careful vinification with short extraction and maturation with the lees contact for a few months. This is the reason for the expressiveness of the wine and the purity of the fruit that characterizes it.
Enjoy Kidonitsa Aslanis Winery with fresh cheeses and summery snacks!

The grapes are sourced primarily from contract growers of the crus of Agios Panteleimon within the Amyndeon Appellation in Northwestern Greece. Sprawling at an altitude of 600m on poor sandy soil, the vineyards reach yields that rarely exceed 40 hl/ha. The area is marked by cold winters and warm summers, but the four surrounding lakes create a unique mild mesoclimate. As a result, we get high fruit concentration and ripeness with exquisitely complex and rich aromas.
Amyndeon had a heavy winter with very low temperatures. April had very low temperatures as well and in May we had some hail, which damaged some plants – production therefore was lower than usual. Summer however was very dry and warm and the abundance of rain helped us get earlier ripening and very healthy crop. 2017 will be a very aromatic year for the Amyndeon whites. Xinomavro too, is expected to give excellent results.

The process is now: grapes to fermentation, secondary fermentation to bottle.

This stage is followed by a stay of at least 36 months in French and American oak barrels. At the end of the aging period, the wine is lightly clarified with fresh egg whites before being bottled and kept in our cellars for at least another 36 months to complete the aging process.
Tasting: Prado Enea Gran Reserva 2015 presents an intense, attractive and medium deep cherry red color. On the nose, it presents an elegant array of black fruits with spicy undertones, ginger biscuits and licorice. The entry in the mouth, soft and ample, leads to a powerful palate with a feeling of power and a slight volume. We find velvety tannins in perfect harmony with its fresh and well-integrated acidity. There are also creamy and vanilla notes mixed with fresh fruit. This is a perfect wine to drink now, but it will continue to evolve well for several years.
Food and wine pairing: This wine goes well with stews, meat dishes and cheese, and can even be enjoyed. cheese, and can even be enjoyed on its own, without any accompaniment.

This sensational Reserva is truly worthy of its subheading. Though you can’t imagine that there are many non-special selections being made in Muga, this really is exceptionally fine wine. Made from a selection of the best parcels in their own vineyards and aged for a total of 44 months in oak barrels and in bottle, the wine has amazing ageing potential. Soft, smooth, elegant and medium-rich with flavours of red berry, smoky oak, coffee notes, black fruit and spice, it is utterly delicious, powerful yet balanced.
Tim Atkin, 96 points; wine of the year for 2021.
From one of the great houses of Haro, Muga’s wines are all worth getting excited about. They are the perfect living example of how to balance tradition with an embracing of the new, using oak in every part of the winemaking process, fining with egg whites (between 2 and 3 are enough for 100 litres), and yet a complete understanding of the technology in terms of vineyard research, fermentation processes, technical analyses, quality management and ISO standards that have only been available in the last twenty years or so.
The results are so obviously brilliant that one wonders why others aren’t all flocking to follow-on from Muga’s example. It could well be the cost that this devotion incurs as these are expensive philosophies to adopt; whatever the reason, there are few who consistently produce such recognisably smooth, complex and delicious wines as Muga. We’re lucky to have them.
Offley Porto Ruby has an attractive and well defined red-ruby hue and lively aroma reminiscent of red fruit with some more complex notes arising from its ageing in oak wood. In the mouth, it has a fine balance between sweetness and mature tannins, it is well structured and it has a long finish. Its elegance and liveliness make it the ideal option for those who enjoy young and accessible Porto Wines.
With an attractive red-tawny hue, typical of an older wine, Offley Porto Tawny has a delicate aroma reminiscent of ripe red fruit and enhanced by nutty notes that provide it with an added complexity. In the mouth, there is a fine balance between soft tannins and natural sweetness which combine harmoniously towards an elegant and fine finish.
La Roblería Vineyard, Colchagua Valley Syrah 100%
Pangea is a well-rounded, distinguished wine with an intense, dark color. It has delicious, complex aromas which come through in the mouth with soft notes of red and blueberries, harmoniously intermingled with spices like black pepper, dark chocolate and subtle notes of vanilla and caramel. This wine has an exceptional combination of concentration, flavors and aromas. Pangea is at essence a Syrah from the Apalta Valley that faithfully expresses its terroir of granitic soils with high quartz content, properties that are reflected in every glass. This is a well-structured wine with plenty of acidity and ripe, firm tannins. We recommend decanting it prior to drinking.
With grapes from a selection of soils in Apalta and a special fermentation, we have achieved a full-bodied, concentrated wine. 18 months in French oak barrels and one year in the bottle have brought balance and roundness to the wine and concentrated the purity and elegance of the fruit.
This classic from the North of Italy is a delicious sparkler with aromatic pear flavours on the nose followed by a crisp palate of succulent apple and pear. Gently foamy, with a crisp and delicate finish, drink on it’s own or in true venetian style, as a Bellini.
The Cielo’s family estate based in Friuli Grave DOC is the source of these top quality white wines. Planted with Prosecco, Pinot Grigio, Friulano and Sauvignon Blanc, the fruit concentration balanced with crisp, refreshing acidity demonstrate why many believe that this area is Italy’s finest for the production of white wines.
In its Les Cèdres cuvée, Jaboulet strives to portray the traditional Châteauneuf identity; that is, a full-bodied, gourmet wine, ready for drinking. The nose is aromatically powerful, revealing fruity, slightly aniseed notes. On the palate, the wine reveals a perfect balance between acidity and creaminess. The persistence in the mouth is excellent, ending with a honeyed sensation.
Fortified wine, Marsala Fine Semisecco Pellegrino. Fine and delicate, it has an intense amber color, with pleasant oak notes. Perfect for cooking fine dishes and fort he pastry preparation. Pleasant to be enjoyed with desserts, especially dry pastries. Marsala Fine Semisecco DOC has always been an irreplaceable partner at the end of a meal. It is surprising, however, for its extreme versatility, enhancing numerous recipes both sweet and savoury.

This Brunello di Montalcino Docg exemplifies Ruffino’s approach, based on century-long winemaking expertise coupled with artisan control over every step of production from vine to bottle. • The vineyards are mostly located around the villa, in the so-called area of “Greppi” because of its landscape formed by steep, rugged hills. Other hectares of the vineyard are places in “Le Logge” area, in the southern area of the appellation. • Sangiovese Grosso confers Brunello the power, longevity and elegance for which it is still famous in the world. Only the best grapes are selected for this wine. 92 Points Wine Spectator, 92 Points Decanter.
Sangiovese wine grapes with some Merlot and Colorina added to the mix. The 2017 Chianti came from a hot vintage with drought conditions. Higher elevation vineyards did enjoy some cooling breezes overnight giving some relief to the grapes and balance to the wine. This example is intense with dark fruit, clove, anise, dark cherry, grilled wild herbs and smoky flavours on the palate with balanced acidity to match. Pour with a meat-lover’s pizza.
Chianti Classico food pairings: meat-sauce pasta, meat lovers’ pizza, beef stew.
