Mossburn Strathmill 12 Year Old 2010 Virgin European Oak Finish 70cl, 46%
This 12-year-old single cask expression from Strathmill distillery in Speyside was finished in virgin European oak casks. Glenfiddich 40 Year Old Cumulative Time Re-imagined Time Series 2023 70cl, 44.6%
Cumulative Time is an appropriate name for this 40-year-old whisky because it’s made using a technique called remnant vatting. It’s a process unique to the distillery in which the malt master carries one batch over, time and time again, before marrying it with the casks selected for each subsequent release. This is done to imbue the spirit with the character of past releases and to accumulate layers of flavour over 40 years. The bottle is presented in a handmade jesmonite box with subtle markings on each so they’re unique and unable to be replicated.
Macallan 40 Year Old The Red Collection 2023 Release No.149 70cl, 47.5%
The striking 2023 release of Macallan’s Red Collection has spent 40 years in a selection of the finest sherry casks. It displays all the hallmark characteristics of a classic, long-aged Macallan. You will be rewarded with decadent notes of roasted figs, orange marmalade and poached pears, complemented by ginger biscuits and creamy vanilla.
The 2023 batch of Macallan’s incredible 40-year-old single malt joins the distillery’s Red Collection. That four-decade slumber was spent in classic Macallan style – in a host of sherry-seasoned casks. The collection was inspired by the distillery’s ‘Choice Old’ range, released way back in 1903!
Benrinnes 1990 30 Year Old Connoisseurs Choice Gordon & MacPhail 70cl, 55.1%
A 1990 Benrinnes single malt from indie bottler Gordon & MacPhail, matured in a single first-fill sherry hogshead for three decades, before being bottled in November 2020 as part of its Connoisseurs Choice series. Aromas of cinnamon, ginger and fruit cake fill the nose, complemented by notes of dark chocolate, stewed apples, toffee and walnuts throughout the palate.
A cracking, seriously matured Connoisseurs Choice bottling from Gordon and MacPhail.
This whisky was distilled at Benrinnes way back in 1990. Prior to 2007, Benrinnes practiced an unusual distillation process, whereby the spirit was partially triple distilled, producing a thick, meaty new make.
This distillation process meant that Benrinnes whisky was well suited to long term maturation, particularly in sherry casks, a fact demonstrated by this bottling.
This dram has been aged for fully three decades in a First Fill Sherry Hogsheads.
The result is a dram that serves up notes of sherry soaked fruit cake, cinnamon spice, dark chocolate, baked apples, drying oak, burnt marshmallows, caramel sauce, almond flakes and muscular roasted malt. A full bodied and intense dram.
Benrinnes 30 Year Old is bottled at a cask strength of 55.1%, and without chill filtration or colouration.
Just 227 bottles were created.
