Distilled in 2001, this 19-year-old Singleton of Glendullan single malt was initially matured in refill American oak casks and finished in ex-Cognac casks before being bottled as part of Diageo’s 2021 Special Releases. Aromas of dried fruit – figs and apricots – orange peel, fruitcake, vanilla marzipan and butter fill the nose. The palate offers notes of dry oak, green apples, grapes and coconut, with ginger, beeswax and a hint of smoke lingering in the finish.

A Unicorn’s Tale is the second edition in Ardbeg’s Anthology series, following on from the success of the first Anthology release, Harpy’s Tale. It’s a single malt Scotch whisky matured in a marriage of Madeira casks and bourbon casks, bottled at 14 years old.
Each release reimagines a mythological beast which might be real – or might be a mistaken glimpse at one of Islay’s native beasties… The story of the unicorn at Ardbeg begins on a dark night after a fête at the Distillery when the clip-clop of hooves was heard echoing around the yard. The workers suspected Rory, the Distillery’s greedy Shetland Pony who’s known for his ill-temper and devilishly sweet tooth, but when they ventured outside to investigate they witnessed a horse-like creature rearing up against a full moon, with a horn protruding from its head. The next day, rumours swirled about a sighting of Scotland’s national animal… a Unicorn. Had Rory simply raided an ice cream truck and walked out of his unlatched gate? Or was something more mythical afoot?

Developed as a ‘luxury’ whisky, Walker’s Master Blender, Jim Beveridge comments, “We sought out only the very finest, beautifully balanced blends that have deep evocative flavours and a character to match. On the nose, there is a vast array of rich fruity flavours including apple, pear, fig and peach. Reflective of the beauty, rarity and exotic nature of the luxury goods that were exchanged on the royal trade route, it has an intense and complex flavour with notes of dried fruit and toffee, handsomely balanced with a subtle woody sweetness and a lingering wispy aromatic smoke. Highland Park Dark Origins is a new core bottling that celebrates the early days of Magnus Eunson’s illicit distilling on Orkney, back before the distillery was even founded in 1798. Magnus worked as a butcher and church official by day, but by night he was a legendary whisky smuggler and distiller outwitting the exciseman.
To honour their hero (the Batman of the Orkney Islands, if you will), Highland Park have created a whisky with a suitably ‘dark’ character. Using 80% first-fill Sherry casks (20% refill) – 60% are first-fill European oak, with 20% being first-fill American oak – an exciting, spicy, chocolatey whisky has been produced.

This is a 1990s release of the core-range Special Reserve, presented in the iconic triangular bottle, designed for the company in 1956 and first used for the Glenfiddich brand in 1961. Interestingly, despite being the world’s first single malt brand, “Pure Malt” was the preferred wording on the label of their flagship product until 2000.

Jack Daniels – Family of Fine Whiskeys – Wooden box set
This gift set contains the classic Jack Daniel’s No.7, the refined Gentleman jack and the Elegant Single barrel. These three Jack Daniel’s whiskeys are the rocks in Jack Daniel’s Range.
The classic No.7 is one of the most popular whiskies in the world. The whiskey is filtered drop by drop through ten feet of sugar maple charcoal (known as the Lincoln County Process). The reason behind this is the distinct smoothness it generates making it a whiskey not bourbon. The water used is from a cave near the distillery that flows all year round at a rate of 800 gallons per minute at a constant temperature and is virtually iron free. These are the key ingredients and processes to make No.7 whiskey.
Gentleman Jack was one of Jack Daniel’s later creations made in 1988. The difference between Gentleman Jack and the rest of the Jack Daniel’s Whiskies is that it goes through the charcoal mellowing process not once but twice, giving it a more refined taste and worthy of being called a gentleman.
Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel is made in exactly the same way as No.7, it even includes the same ingredients. So what make this whiskey so special, it does have a higher ABV of 45% and is 100% proof but that isn’t all. The main difference is where the barrel is placed in the barrels house, for single barrel whiskies, they are placed at the highest point in the barrel house. Here the summer temperatures can reach well over 100 degree Fahrenheit and in the winter they can easily drop below freezing levels. These extreme conditions can cause the whiskey to move in and out of the barrel dramatically, resulting in the intense maturation needed to develop the unique flavour of Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel.
