Campbeltown is one of five areas in Scotland categorised as a distinct malt whisky producing region, and is home to the Campbeltown single malts. At one point it had over 30 distilleries and proclaimed itself “the whisky capital of the world”. However, a focus on quantity rather than quality, and the combination of prohibition and the Great Depression in the United States, led to most distilleries going out of business. Today only three active distilleries remain in Campbeltown: Glen Scotia, Glengyle, and Springbank.
The well known folk song titled Campbeltown Loch, I wish you were whisky is based on the town’s history in this industry.

Glen Scotia 10 Year Old Classic Campbeltown (70cl, 40%)
A delicious entry level whisky from the Campbeltown distillery. This is aged in 100% first-fill bourbon barrels and offers a superb introduction to one of the great whisky regions of Scotland.
Glen Scotia Double Cask (70cl, 46%)
Looks like the Glen Scotia range has had a bit of a redesign! They’ve gone for quite a classic, refined design this time, and have even introduced a selection of new expressions, including the Glen Scotia Double Cask! This Campbeltown single malt is finished in a combination of first-fill bourbon barrels and Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks.
Campbeltown 8 Year Old Oloroso Cask Finish Darkness (50cl, 56.5%)
The folks at Darkness know their stuff when it comes to sherry cask finishing, ensuring its whiskies have reached the peak of perfection before cracking open their diddy little octave casks to bottle them up. The smaller casks ensure more contact between spirit and wood, which means more sherry influence for this blended malt Scotch from the Campbeltown region, which finished its eight-year maturation in an oloroso sherry octave.
Glen Scotia 15 Year Old (70cl, 46%)
This is the 15 year old single malt Scotch whisky from Glen Scotia in the Campbeltown region, released in 2015 as part of a redesign for their range. The distillers use specially selected American oak casks to age this expression, which compliment the fruit-forward and subtly coastal whisky rather well.
Longrow Peated (70cl, 46%)
This is essentially the awesome Longrow C.V. bottling in new packaging, we’re very glad it still features in the re-vamped range! Great value and great tasting!
Glen Scotia Victoriana Cask Strength (70cl, 54.2%)
Glen Scotia’s Victoriana sees the Campbeltown distillery’s single malt drawn from casks with a particularly heavy char profile, imparting plenty of rich, roasty-toasty notes. This, however, is the Victoriana Cask Strength expression. It’s obvious what the difference here is – it’s bottled at cask strength, a robust 54.2% ABV, which helps bolster those aforementioned roasty-toasty notes.

Springbank 10 Year Old (70cl, 46%)
Blended from a mixture of bourbon and sherry casks, the light colour of this malt belies the richness of its character. The nose has a wide range of aromas, from citrus fruits to pears and a hint of peat, while the palate shows touches of smoke, vanilla essence, nutmeg, cinnamon and the salty tang characteristic of the distillery. Picked up the top prize in its category at the World Whiskies Awards 2014.
